Stunning performance

I said before the game that today would be interesting as it would really show just how much we've improved as a team since the start of the season. In the away game we were physically weak, mentally weak, looked devoid of ideas and way off the pace. Not a bit of it today - we showed mental toughness to win the individual battles (and to recover from the setback of the equaliser), and were physically strong all over the pitch.
Some of our attacking play was outstanding and we remained composed when needed. We didn't fall for any of the Gills gamesmanship either.
That said, and I know some will disagree with this, I think Gillingham are a very decent side, despite the scoreline. They looked more dangerous against our defence than most other sides this season, and caused us problems. They're good, just not as good as us.
It's really harsh to give anyone MotM, but i'm going to single out Simms. Today he was a massive handful for their defence, and if they gave him just an inch he caused real damage. It's a shame he didn't get on the scoresheet. Many on twitter were questioning him starting over Mitchell, and that's why. ANOTHER good call from the manager.
Everything about us is looking so good right now. I know it's been said but I feel so frustrated we can't be there in person, today would have been amazing. Having said that, it could also be a blessing considering we will be going to the stadium of light with no home crowd.
59 points from 30 games. That's 90 point territory over a whole season and while you can't just ignore the poor start, these players have been playing out of their skins for months now, it's amazing it really is. Long may it continue. UTMP!

They did look decent, just didn't take their chances, but it makes our performance all the more impressive.

I agree, particularly about Simms. He would be my first signing for next season, if possible permanent, if not a full season loan. I don’t think Madine will be here next season and Ellis will get better with more experience. As you say he is a real handful already, when he gets a bit more savvy he will be real class.

It was the clinical edge that you see in promotion winning sides.

To quote Scrafters from a few weeks ago "if you don't believe now, you never will!"

Good post, brilliant performance. Interesting what you say about Simms, I thought he was fairly wasteful first half but was a real handful second.

In terms of motm, I think Ward edges it for me. His best performance of the season, used the ball so well, won the ball back just as well.

We've just schooled a very well drilled and strong side, exactly what was needed as it would have been unbearable to watch us defend a slender lead during those last few minutes. Some standout players but again and just as importantly, no one had a bad game. We have some good players but the sum of our parts is even better. A fantastic Easter Weekend!

yep, good o/p. The biggest difference from now and going back ten games plus is that we are now creating and taking chances.
