Leeds player sent off....what is the point??

Leeds player sent off for a good tackle.

They may as well ban all tackling because unless the tackle is stood up with your studs grazing the turf you open yourself up to a red card despite cleanly winning the ball and having zero harmful intent ...and a whole game is ruined

The rules now are ruining the game as a spectacle

think the yellow card should have stood but the rules today and especially the ref looking at it in slow motion and it was always gonna be upgraded to red.

This is one of those where VAR makes it look worse. Slowing it down makes it look like there's intent, whereas, as you say, there wasn't any.

Interesting comments lads
The ex pros on BBC Sport all agree it was a stupid and reckless challenge, and that was before VAR referral.
Paul Dikov said Cooper was having a very good game and there was no need for such a rash challenge.
I’ve not seen it but will see what the verdict is on MOTD tonight.

Clearly won the ball ,i thought var intervened if it was a clear and obvious mistake by the ref which itwasnt should never have been a red

I thought the city player should of been off aswell that was an intentional foul no attempt to play the ball only the man,so therefore it was foul play an deserved a straight red

We keep hearing about these career ending tackles but how many careers have ended because off bad tackles, and that's not a dig at you tangojoe.

Watched it on MOTD. Hit him sideways on his knee. Could have ruptured both posterior and anterior cruciate ligaments. Definitely potential long term injury. 100% sending off. All the pundits seemed to agree.

Yup-definitely a red and I've no issues with that, apart of course from the two footed challenge by Sterling.

Away from todays game there does seem to be select few footballers who can get away with stuff, but I guess thats always been the case with established internationals who get the benefit of the doubt.
Supposed to be putting that behind us however with VAR but hey ho.

Just seen it for the first time on MOTD (Sunday) and it was a reckless challenge a red card all day long for me.
The City players leg buckled at the point of contact, could have been a life changing injury very lucky it wasn’t.
As for the ref not being very good I do agree with that, he missed a clear shirt pulling on Stones clear penalty.

And compare with the first minute challenge on Maxwell - never played the ball had no chance of getting the ball and took his standing foot / leg

I did should out for a red yesterday after that challenge on Maxwell but no ref (certainly 99.9% won’t) won’t give a red card in the first minute of a game.
I’am not saying it’s right I’am just saying what is.
