Play Offs (If we get there) Which club would you prefer ?

Not counting any chickens (play off related memories of Walsall and Lincoln and Bratfort still hurt) because we are not there yet .... 🙏

But if we do - who ?

- personally I think Lincoln are the club to avoid - they have great momentum .... ever since the
second half substitutions against us

I think Sundrrrrrlnd might be hoisted by the own petard and sense of entitlement 🤷‍♂️

On a cynical note I don’t often bear grudges but I hope Oxford don’t sneak in - more Beachamp trauma than grudge TBH 😞

You must have been traumatised by the Beauchamp fella Rox, you mentioned him the other week. 🙂
Not too fussed who we get, I think they will be more concerned with us. #UTMP

The Beauchamp goal still brings me out in hives even now.

It does Big Bertha - I called it on the day and my prediction was ominously correct ....

Appleton’s quintuple substitution also engenders superstitious fear

Lincoln for me.

Even though we drew with them, we looked by far the better side and should have put about 4 in. We definitely didn't look the better side against Sunderland at home, and I thought over 90 minutes we deserved to beat them at the Stadium of Light but definitely rode our luck somewhat towards the end with the chances they had and Maxwell pulling off 3 amazing saves.

If we draw Sunderland I still reckon we could pull off another two results again them, but I reckon on our day we could paste Lincoln though going off the previous game.

Don't care, fancy us in two legs against any team if we have a full week off to rest and prepare and can see reasons to be optimistic and pessimistic against any team.

Odds are we'll face Lincoln or Sunderland in the Semis so-

Lincoln, optimistic against them because we outplayed them twice and didn't get a win in either match, which will give the squad some extra motivation to get some revenge. Pessimistic because they're fully healthy with Jorge Grant and Liam Bridcutt back and will play with motivation seeing as they've been robbed of a shot at automatic promotion with that horrible penalty call.

Sunderland, optimistic against them because be beat them twice while playing like shit in each game and if we get proper rest and preparation against them I'll fancy us to beat them over two legs. Pessimistic, because they'll be up for revenge against us seeing as they really deserved more from their two matches against us this year.

Ultimately, there are reasons to be optimistic and pessimistic against every team we could play, but ultimately I'm optimistic regardless, because

1) We've had the best form in the division since December with almost 1/3 of our squad out injured.

2) We've had the best form while playing 2 matches every week since January.

3) Give us a week and some change to rest and prepare and I fancy us over two legs against anyone in the division.

But if I had to pick I'd want Lincoln in the Semis as fans will be back and I wouldn't want to go up to Sunderland against their fans.

Agree with the OP. Lincoln are the strongest of the likely four. I think Sunderland is the way we are heading tbh.

I’d like to finish 3rd to play Pompey or Oxford, as I don’t think they are as strong as Lincoln and Sunderland.
Lincoln are a bit of a worry, just feel they have a sort of nothing to loose attitude, they’ve sort off exceeded expectations already, didn’t like the way they took all the Shackles off for the last 20 minutes at their place.
I do think however that we would win against any of these teams should we get to the final, in a one off game.

I’d like Sunderland in the semis, as they wold be preparing themselves based on the same squad they’ve just been out battled by recently .......
With a few big returning players waiting in the wings who haven’t played against them , then their 4-2-2-2 formation might get a bit more of a runaround than they are hoping for.

Unfortunately not possible but given a choice in the final I’d chose PKE

Absolute banker. I’d be so relaxed I’d even bring their M6 bridge bed sheet with me for them to cry into post game

That is something I think about sometimes, I know they're massive bottlers and all that but I imagine the NERVES going into a play-off semi final or even worse a final against Preston!

The thought of losing those games/game absolutely knocks me sick and it is a purely hypothetical thought in my mind. Couldn't imagine how I'd feel if it actually happened..

Absolutely no entitlement from the majority of Sunderland fans. Fatalism is our hidden name. Our play off record is nothing short of dreadful and the pressure to get out of League one is massive. Some of our players appear to not believe they should be playing at a club that had a recent Prem history.

Your team look very well organised and we seem to play off the cuff whilst relying on one or two individuals to spark. Recruitment has been dreadful for a club of our size at this level. The same old problem of location, which obviously wont go away, means you can't offer a one year deal to a Southern based player to move his family to the North East, no matter if offering a few grand more than others. I'm not sure we actually can do that anyway.

Oxford played well at the SOL until they went down to ten men. Charlton similarly and Lincoln appear to have found their mojo, if not a bit erratic like Peterborough have been. You have the best record against top sides by a country mile, which much give the team a lot of belief. Whoever we all play, I can imagine at least one penalty shoot out.

Pens would be fine with me, Maxwell been outstanding with them this season

He might have done if he was playing. Eric Nixon was in goal that day .
I must admit I wasn't 100% certain as I typed.
Remember Allardyce dumping Banks in favour of Nixon & for some reason I'd always associated it with that game. Just checked & he played 20 games that season so obviously Banksy got dropped well before the Oxford game.

I’m confident that we can beat anyone in the play offs at this moment in time, although I’d rather avoid Lincoln as they’ve got the momentum and confidence at the minute

If we get there lincoln seem to have some momentum at the moment though not much between any of the teams who end up there its about character bottle luck inspiration good and bad ref decisions reality is in the play offs anything can happen fingers crossed we get there and things go our way either way a great season from the team.

Lose tomorrow night we are in deep sh*t after threads like this.
Deep shit would be relying on other results, if we lose tonight it is still massively in our hands needing a POINT from relegated two weeks ago Bristol Rovers.

Bookies have us at 1/200 to finish inside the top 6. You put £1,000 on it you get a fiver back, that tells you how likely it is we'll be finishing in the play-offs. Obviously it is not certain but it would take a huge fuck up and results going against us to not finish in the top 6 now.

Agree 100% - let's leave this one until tonight/tomorrow and then get our teeth in to it. Way too many fans always get ahead of themselves.
As I've posted on another thread if my bookies are offering 30p cash out short of the actual winnings for finishing in a top 6 place then I'm quite comfortable that Blackpool will be in the playoffs.

I've also stated it doesn't matter where we finish in the playoffs or who we play we just have to win.
It doesn't matter if we get to the final with a goal off Ballards knee at a corner, or win it with a goal off Jerry's arse from a clearance from the keeper.

What I fear is playing a team off the park with slick passing and great movement to be beaten by a scenario I've described above.

#BELIEVE

The thread title is in the conditional ... ‘if’ not ‘when’ .... so it’s not tempting fate rather guarding against it - nothing wrong with thinking ahead.

UTP ....

To answer the OP, they all worry me a bit.
Sunderland, we were lucky to beat them twice, particularly in the second game. They seemed to spot that floated crosses cause our defence problems because Maxwell doesn't command the six yard box.
Lincoln on a great run now, we should have had four or six points from them instead of one in the league but that will be a tough game
Sixth place team, reduced expectation, nothing to lose attitude

I'd rather finish third and play the sixth place team, let Lincoln and Sunderland scrap it out for the other place in the final.

Anyway we have to get in the play-offs first, 3 points tonight please

Well said. Personally I think Sunderland will be very strong in the play offs but I'm expecting the same from Blackpool subject to them being there in the first place.

There is a strong probability that we could finish 3rd......if we play our part.

Beat Coppinger Rovers tonight and we are ahead of Blunderland. Lincoln away at last chance saloon Athletic won't be easy and I can see them dropping all 3 tonight, certainly 1, which, again we do our bit should see us 3rd possibly by a point.

We shouldn't settle for a 1-0- GD could play a big part.

That leaves us to complete the job against Bristol Rovers and finish 3rd leaving Lincoln to issue the last rights to Blunderland and, hey presto, we've set up THE SCRAFTON SYNDROME for Wembley.

Said on another thread, I don't see any side as being obviously better than the rest. It's a very level playing field. The positive for us is that we've beaten most the sides who are going to be there. Lincoln would be the contradiction there. I'd honestly rate each game/tie as 50:50.

THE SCRAFTON SYNDROME it is.
