Looks like loans then

Less than two weeks to go and the anticipated signings for various positions haven’t materialised, nor have rumoured bids for Embleton, Gabriel etc, happened.

So unless something happens it looks like we will be turning to the loan market to fill those positions, something we’ve been successful at, especially last year.

Give it time,we are after players at this stage whose clubs are deliberating whether they actually want to let the player go,then a transfer fee has to be sorted, then they have to get a replacement in,it all takes time. Notice there seems to be a general impasse in the transfer market at the moment,it will happen but not as soon as we would like.

Used to be that all our business began right now, so at least we’ve brought in a decent number already and barring RB we have cover in all positions.
So it’ll be a waiting game for teams to let players go when they make signings of their own or finalise their squads and decide who needs to go off the wage bill until Jan onwards

They are still on the table. So like all teams, it's a bit of a chain and once one side makes that signing it can cascade down.

Agree with that. Also there is not a lot of cash around in the game (below PL), illustrated by the fact that there is very little transfer activity at all at the moment . A bit more patience required.

To conclude that, with two weeks to go to the start of the season and more than a month to the transfer deadline, we can only do loans is a staggering leap of logic.

Hopefully we have a Plan B for both Embleton and Gabriel. If not, still some time to arrange one!

Other clubs are also in pre season and assessing their requirements also seeing what other bids come in for their players
No need to be concerned at all

Permanent deals are complex, unless you are a club that has bags of money and can pay over the odds. For the majority it is about negotiating, staying patient, maybe waiting for other clubs to do their business and lots of other factors. I'm sure we will see more permanent and loan signings in the coming days.

Don’t forget folks how other clubs, and prestigious ones at that, will now be viewing our club regarding loaning out their starlets. We are in probably the best position in terms of relationships with other clubs than we have ever been.

Over a month to go.

Last season our first game (League Cup v Stoke) was on the 29th August and we signed MJ Williams on the 24th and Fojticek on the 25th. Our first loan signing wasn't until 3rd September when we landed Kemp.

Between the opening game and the closure of the transfer window we signed:

Lubala
Mitchell
Garbutt
Gretarsson
Dougall
Gabriel
Ballard
Woodburn

As others have said, although it's not ideal that we've not got the final bodies we want in, we still have time to get them over the line and the club are obviously confident they can land the targets they want else we'd have moved on.

As I posted last night, a little patience is all that's required; the market is incredibly slow at the moment and we're stuck in chains in some instances that will start to move a) when we get closer to the start of the season and b) when we get closer to the end of window.

We're actually in a decent position in that we've added depth early doors and now we're just waiting to add those who will make more of a difference to the first team.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if we didn't sign a single player on loan.

If we started the season tomorrow and everyone was fit you could field the following:

Maxwell

Connolly
Keogh
Ekpiteta
Grettarson
Garbutt

Dougall
Ward

Hamilton
Yates
Mitchell

Subs: Grimshaw, James, Husband, Anderson, Stewart, Lavery, Madine

Still have Moore, Carey, Thorniley, Casey, Virtue, Bowler, Apter, Antwi, Holmes, Sarkic to come in to a match day squad. Hardly like we’re down to the bare bones. We need another right back (possibly 2), another centre midfielder and another striker. 4-5 decent loans and we’re looking in decent shape

I'm content with the squad as it is at the moment. (Yes it would be nice to see some more names through the door, but we have already bought a few in).

There is plenty of time to build on what we have, even if that goes well into the season. Not panic buying for the sake of it, keeping our heads and only investing if the deal is right for the club. There are plenty of players out there that I am sure we will have on our radar. I have faith in the current recruitment/management team and am happy we are not rushing into things and only doing business if it improves the squad/club.

Back in the (bad old) day, Flotsam and Jetsam would be heading for the Tickled Trout for a meeting with Catweazel and Koko.......

No need to panic, we are in great hands!!!

We have quantity now we need that extra quality in the rb, cmf and striker positions.
Such players may cost transfer or loan fees so may take time to get over the line.
Think this is where the loans come in, esp. for the cmf and striker. No way could w....SS afford the millions nec to bring in proven quality. They'll still cost a packet in terms of loan fees and wages mind.

Don't think there will be any choice but to be patient.

Stay calm Mates.
