Cashless concourses

It doesn’t bother me one way or the other, but I can totally understand people not liking the idea , it’s a lot easier but people like to part with their hard earned in a material sense, ie. handing over pictures of the queen.

I've been very positive with how the club is being ran but this is a mistake imo. How many of the older generation don't like to use cards? I hate using my card for small transactions as they're harder to keep a track off. How many parents are gonna give the kids their card to go and buy some crisps or a drink or a chocolate bar? I don't get why the club would want to limit income, which I'm sure this will do. Why make it more difficult for some people to buy things from the club?

Rather than being a permanent measure to 'move with the times', isn't this just another temporary covid safety measure so cash isn't a touch point? Just guessing, does anyone know?

It's permanent, they said that it's been moved forward because of covid but it was something they were always going to do.

I think it's a good thing and will speed up things no end. Whilst I understand some reluctance, you can't hold back the tides of change. If you try, you'll drown.

The pandemic has caused a quicker shift towards cashless, i can't understand the hostility. It will speed up queuing in concourses that were built far to small in the first place. All banks have facility for online banking / apps, everyone owns a phone, and 13 year olds can get bank accounts and cards nowadays. A few tartan blanket west stand brigade will just have to bring their bovril with instead, jokes aside everyone is entitled to their opinion of course.

I agree with this being a mistake. I pay through my phone with contact less.

My daughter loves to go and get her chocolate and drink before the game on her own as it makes her feel grown up.

There is no way I'm giving my phone to my daughter to get it. I'll just take a drink and chocolate bar for her. She can pay in the shop and that will have to do.

I also hate small transactions and avoid them as much as possible.

It's no drama but I'm sure I won't be the only one that will stop buying in the concourse and start taking our own.

Ah ok, I should've read the article properly! It's a sign of the times but totally get that many of our current fans would prefer cash. They may however embrace it if they don't have to queue as long.

Was only a matter of time. I think people better get used to it.

Not a big fan of this idea of using a credit card for transactions. They should adopt a similar policy that l have experienced in the Allianz Arena whereby the club give you a card that you can load up with cash at certain points for use at food and drink outlets, this significantly reduces waiting times and touch points.

I work in a bank and there are older people who don’t have cards and there are vulnerable people who couldn’t possibly cope with cards. However, there’s no doubt cashless is the way it’s going and kids from 11 can have a card account.

No problem with it these days... prior to covid I would be moaning like a good one. Now I rarely use cash.

Remember the time under the scum when we couldn't have contactless as they never paid the bill... so only accepted cash.. strange that :)

Weird one, I can see thats the way its going but to limit things again....

Saying that lots dont carry cash anymore, but still why limit those who still do?

When in the ground on match days my hubby and stepson sit in a different part of the ground to me and they don’t have debit/credit cards so they’ll get less income all season as they won’t be buying anything in the ground
I have my card I will be fine but I think also that this is a mistake by the club

Let's hope the staff are being told to tell everyone prior to taking orders that it's card only. Signs (no matter how large) are easily ignored/missed and reckon the staff could be in for some uncalled for abuse from an ignorant minority.

If, as you sayyou work in a bank, you will know the main drivers behind a cashless country are the banks. Once they get their way just watch the charges start flying in, charge for running your account, transaction charges etc. etc. Just like they did years ago when they lobbied for repeal of the truck act, which for the younger poster gave everyone the right to be paid in cash. That was the top of the slippery slope which we are now halfway down. Before the accusations start flying, I am not a Luddite I use cards myself. But I would like to be able to use them at my convenience, not because someone else tells me I must.

I've always liked tapping my foot to 'I walk the line' whilst waiting for my pie.
Shame.

Makes perfect sense to me time moves on and people have to change.
A very very small percentage of people don't have phone's, Internet and bank cards etc are they the type who would normally spend in the ground I don't think so.

I’m not against advances in a cashless concourse, btw, I’ll find a solution, but really like Bayern’s idea of a club card that can be topped up with cash.

I’m not sure how you work that out mate?
I’ve not had a bank account for about 30 years, I’ve always spent in the ground.
Your the very small minority then how on earth do you function without a bank account is unbelievable.

So, you think the older and less well off should just do one? Do they get in your way? Do they annoy you? Are they an inconvenience?

I have elderly parents who are still worried about non-cash transactions. There are people, young and old who don't have bank accounts. I suggest you think of the old and the less well off before you sneer. And no, I didn't see the humour.
Apologies, the joke was bad taste, but the change is where the world is headed. I for one, don’t use cash unless I have to. But that’s just me.

Your right, a very rare situation I’d imagine.
I pay all bills with cash at a bank/ post office, you get used to it so doesn’t feel like a hassle, I’m sure it would do though to those used to modern banking!

Under the Oystons I’d have worried that some phantom transactions would be added or an incorrect sum accidentally input. Under our new owners I’d trust it all to be quicker and accurate!

Agree with everything you say, I’ve no doubt banks want to be cashless, but they know full well it’s a long way away. The amount of cash withdrawn from atm machines is enormous and there’s the black economy.
