Delfouneso what a player

always seemed a little frightened of the rough stuff and looked better out wide where he was less bullied.

Pace, skill and technical ability but was great for a few games, then woeful for a few so lacked consistency which Is not a Critch player attribute.

I always thought he needed a sports psychologist to help him more than football coaching. He’s done ok in his career but should have been a top flight striker year in year out

Won’t have made a bad living

Club got him one in the last year he was with us. I know the guy who worked with him. More of a life coach mentor type than a proper psychologist tbh.

Lovely lad by all accounts.

I’m glad they did. It’s probably helped him in some way at Bolton

That’s a brilliant summary Chunky, fully agree. Lovely guy in community too, wife works on the children’s ward and always spoke warmly of him, others were just doing the job of community engagement, he really did care and would always leave last.

Personally I thought he was underrated for us. Carried the ball forward really well and engaged the opposition, which often put us in much better positions for others to play. Yep his end product could be patchy but as others have said, had it been better he’d have been too good for us. Top man.

Never met him in real life but you could see from his pitch demeanour and his warmth (20 mins of crowd clapping) that he’d be a nice guy off the pitch as well as on it.
I read your comments about his community engagement and that pretty much backs up what I thought.

He’d probably make a good coach post football particularly with academy players as he has the skills to pass on and appears to be empathic too

Nathan is a really nice lad. had a few words with my young son one time and really came across without a big ego. I think many of us are very fond of him and always wanted him to do better than he has done. He was touted as a star in his early career ,England under-21 excetra. Something of a phenomenon how he just went backwards to league one and now seemingly league 2 level.

Just like on the pitch. 🤣 Fair play to the lad.

Of course he left last. It's what he does.

Nathan was a fans favourite, tangerine through & through, nice guy, good footballer who scored a few important goals for us - & if he's had been at Pool under NC he would have been brilliant.
He's only 30, can continue playing at L1/L2 level for at least 5 more years & his chosen club will depend on where he lives.
We wish him well.

Before I loved Josh Bowler, I loved Sullay and before I loved Sullay, I loved the Fonz...

I love an enigma.

Some spam....

nice summary. He's definitely in that type of player category - an enigma. For me, he had a good five or ten minutes in every match where he looked an exceptional talent. Problem is for the rest of the game he went missing or did very little.

My problem with the Fonz was his finishing. He always seemed to get into some great positions and then would have the most awful shots, or hold on to the ball for far too long in the box when he should just take a shot. Always liked him though.

Just a personal story about the Christmas party 2 years back? Saddlers first in charge. Anyway my kids would of been 4 and 8 at the time and the youngest running round like a lunatic as per usual, Del Boy went out of his way to play and mess round with him and chatted with the eldest. He hung around when many players had long gone and seemed a lovely lad who was grounded and genuine family guy. Have to say we ask caught Saddler on the hop that night and he was superb as well, chatted with my boys took pictures.

When I stayed at the Blackpool Hotel in October 2012 (Holloway's last match) I asked staff in the restaurant what players were the friendliest and "down to earth". The Fonz was the nicest, the most unfriendly was "back pass Barry".
Kevin Phillips would look in, and if busy go away, but otherwise was OK.
