Just started a new job and have found that I have gone from a good 8/9 hours sleep to because it's shift work down to 6/7 hours - is that enough or will this kill me!!

Not enough. I'm a night owl but also need to be up fairly early. About 6 hours on average. I also suffer from a total malaise all day if I have too much sleep.

worked in the meat industry all my life, bed at 9 ish up at 2 or 3 am to start at 3 or 4 am finishing at 7 pm for the last 3 years Monday to Friday. The problem is when you stop work Saturdays i am like a Zombie.

I did shift work for 15 years. Earlies, lates and night shift.
Only the nights were 7 day (night) shift, the rest being mixed up.
Could be early day followed by a late etc. Very mixed hours.
I was a bad sleeper, get home after a night shift and would only sleep for 2/3 hours before getting up again.
Of course the bonus was that we had a 20% shift allowance plus time and a half for Saturdays and double time for Sundays.
Worked 4 out 5 Sundays.🤣🤣
Forgot, double time on Bank Holidays too. 👍

I’m a terrible sleeper, I go to bed around 10, drop off about 10.30, wake at about 12.30/1, lay there until about 2.30 and get up.

Around 6 - 7 hours depending how stressful work is, although I generally wake once or twice during that time. Annoyingly the more tired I am the less sleep I get, I don’t think changing shift patterns help, sleep ins, and finishing at 10 before a 40 minute drive home sometimes leaves me wired when I get to bed

Steady eight hours most nights, 10:30pm - 6:30am. I like to be out with the dogs first light before my walking route hits the doggy rush hour, bloody canine M6.

Shift work is a killer.
Worked them for the best part of 30 years.
Shocked supervision when I asked to work flat days!!
Used to be able to sleep on a clothesline, easily 9 hours through.
Now I'm lucky if I get 5 hours, that's with a couple of get ups during the night!!

Anywhere between 3 and 12 hours depending on what’s going on in my life.
I sit comfortable on around 8/9 hours normally 😆
You will be fine 👍

Last Friday woke at 3pm from 8am, night shift, got ready for work but had a positive LFT so didn't go in and went for PCR test instead. Went back to bed at 10:30pm and slept through till 10am wtf - Mrs Benny thought I had passed in the night 😱. Never really had a problem with sleep but I do like to go late as a rule and sleep late into the morning and I'm 57 - just a lazy git I suppose 🥱🥱😴😴😴

8 to 9 hours...flipping heck..if only ....is it me but if I fight the urge for a pee then I can usually manage to sleep on a bit longer but once that visit has been made it’s the end of that good nights sleep☹️

I am so lucky

I can sleep almost at will.

Whenever I need to travel, and I want to, I'll just listen to the noise of the engine etc help me drift off.

I can fall sleep just about anywhere if I need to have a quick recharge after a late night, no bother.
And they don't interfere with me going to bed and sleeping solidly until I wake.

It's a rare occurrence for me to have a bad night.

I was always very careful to ask if my children had slept through and not presume they had just because I hadn't woken.

A perfect sleep would be one with a breeze, preferably cold blowing over me, whilst toastie warm under the covers. Ideally with a bit of white noise as it creates an even deeper sleep I find.

Only get 3 or 4 hours continuous sleep then wake up, then back for another 3 or 4 hrs. Wish I could get the full 6 or 8 hrs in one go 😴

I have chite sleep patterns and not good for anybody.

I couldn't tell anybody exactly when and how long they should be sleeping but I believe there are huge benefits from a regular healthy sleeping pattern.

That’s awful Mates! Every sympathy for you.

I have always been able to fall asleep on a clothes line as they say, but the last 2 years has been hell for such a deep sleeper as me, arthritis playing murder with my kip!

I function fine on 5-6 hrs sleep. Could do less if needed. Often manage slightly longer at the weekend. Bit of a treat not to set the alarm.

Since I moved to the middle of nowhere, I’ve found my body has gone to the old fashioned 4 hours, 1 hour waking time, then pass out and another 3/4 hours.

It might be how people used to sleep but I don’t feel well rested when I’m on my way to work!
