So, you've been photographed drinking with buddies during lockdown (note the bottle-strewn tables), your Dad is applying for French citizenship so he can say " sod Brexit for a lark," and your Foreign Secretary has been complicit in bullying Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe into signing a false confession for the Iranians.

Still, making Britain great again is what matters eh Boris?...you feeble excuse for a man.

Don't forget that the fallout for reneging on a border deal is also gathering pace.

Still, bluster bluster, quote some Latin, BUILD BACK BETTER! LEVEL UP! look at our shiny flag as we sell it all down the river blah blah fuck off peasants.

Mind you, i was working during the lockdown and we had a colleague retiring during that period, so we had one drink at the end of the day, completely socially distant from each other.

The point is, there doesn't have to be drinks involved. Getting together in groups of more than two when not work related was illegal at the time. The drinks merely highlight the fact it wasn't a work related activity.

Fines were issued to some staff for going to this event, but not the one leading the ceremonies. Wonder why that is?

Chuck in the recent highly critical report on the government's handling of the evacuation of Afghanistan, which stated the severe lack of planning badly let down our soldiers and allies. It's all good though when you can sit in front of a couple of Union Jack's and all is forgotten.

He will hide behind the fact that the police have concluded their investigations and he was not proven guilty of breaking the law on this occasion. The only way he will go will be in the next General Election but one things for sure he’s damaging the Tory Party but who knows whether the letters might start flying in now!

Sue Gray’s report is released this week - probably best you go to bed for a few days.
Well I won’t be reading it that’s for sure. This has become like flogging a dead horse scenario so I will simply not bother with anything relating to it.
At least there are some sporting events to look forward to watching this week starting with Halifax v Chesterfield tonight.😀.Last nights Notts v Grimsby was a good watch.

Thing is, all this is just a chance for one side to jump on it and spout their rhetoric, same for the other side when they get a story.

In the real world, no one really gives a stuff.

I am amazed that he goes to party with his dispatch box in one hand and a drink , held high, in the other. Obviously wishing the leaving member good luck for their future. It can just be seen in his other hand but rather curiously faded.

Meanwhile Potty Mouth Rainer, who wasn't at the curry event but then mysteriously appeared, spouts on as though on the high ground for the biased BBC.

The photo is probably one taken by someone, or a friend of, who was fired by Boris, who didn't break the law going to Barnard Castle, who has suddenly raised hi head again!

I'm personally sick to death of all this and the Curry night, there are far more important things in the world today that need our Governments full attention along with suggestions from a decent opposition.

Is it just me but I am sick to death of this crap making the headlines and those constantly jumping on it.There are far more serious things happening right now that need focusing on than this and those should be the priority.
And yet the Mail continues to lead with Starmer eating his tea, despite him not being charged. Are we not moving on from that?

The majority of my conservative supporting friends want him gone. They are also worried about how the police seem to be in the pocket of this lot; only investigating when an imminent release of the Gray report could have triggered sufficient letters to the 1922 committee for a no-confidence vote. How are they going to justify not fining him when they have had pictures of this event for weeks and have fined others attending the same event?

My OP mentioned the drinks party as merely one of the issues currently causing us to question Johnson and his front bench. I also pointed out his father's disdain for Brexit and Liz Truss complying with Iran's forced and false confession from Zighari-Ratcliffe. Lytham then contributed the fallout from our reneging on the Irish border deal.

I could just as easily have gone with the cost of living crisis, in which the Johnson/Sunak rift is causing paralysis in Government when action is badly needed. Or, indeed, the long suspected news that the NHS dental services is badly failing due to a severe lack of resources.

On the positive side, we’re all still here, our team is in the championship, our owner is spending millions on the cl, hundreds of millions are being spent rejuvenating Blackpool, the summers on the way, and frankly I don’t care who is in power it’s not made much difference to me over my life.

M y point was I am sick to death of this full stop wether it be about Boris,Starmer or anyone else for that matter.
The lawbreaking does seem all a bit trivial - whilst at the same time it seems strange that other people in the same photo were fined for being at the same event. The police starting to look exposed and corrupt as well. And you do have to remember that a few days prior to this event new rules were bought in by the PM limiting gatherings to two people.

However, the real problem for Johnson (and the reason why this will not go away) is because this picture is clear evidence that he has told a blatant lie at the dispatch box. You simply cannot do that as a PM and he was asked a direct question about this event, which he then denied had taken place. The picture clearly shows that the event did took place and that he knew about it. The reasons why you cannot have a liar as PM are many, and it calls into question everything else he says in parliament. He needs to be dispatched asap for the good of our democracy. Every time another deceit is exposed it undermines trust in our democratic institutions a bit more - it's not a good thing. This isn't a party political point - it's just bad generally. In fact, the opposition will be hoping that he survives, it's their best chance with such an uninspiring leader and no discernible policies.

Yep, if Johnson had been a little bit more honest then this could've been put to bed months ago. However the PM is a craven and inveterate liar so it rumbles on.

Yes, we can only think about one thing at a time, let's ignore this, I wonder if you'd be so forgetful if this were Labour?

'Can you put the bins out tonight love'

'No, there are far more serious things happening in the world that require my full concentration...'

Here we go, let's all divert what I've said, which I haven't seen anyone disagree with. Comparing putting the bins out to spending, if my memory serves me correctly, half a million pounds in investigating the misdemeanours is rather petty, if as someone has suggested the police are bent, I await to hear the outcome of Durham Police with there personal friend of KS in charge of them. As for Labour, the French, and anyone else I have posted about if they deserve praise they will get it if not they won't.

As a footnote, some will have noticed a post of mine criticing BJ about levelling up. As above, if he deserves praise he will get it if not he won't.

It's not about the parties (although that in itself is newsworthy) it's really about telling lies at the dispatch box - and that is why it is important. Can we have a PM who will lie about things in parliament? in short, we cannot. Otherwise it undermines and cheapens our democracy.
The police also do have legitimate questions to answer - why were other people in the picture fined and not the PM? It is a very reasonable question.

AsI wrote at #18, my OP mentioned other serious issues as well as partygate. besides, the important thing about the photographed drinks event - as ElBurro says above, - is that it nails Johnson as a deceitful liar, which then brings Parliament and his office into disrepute.

But the piss ups at the place of work highlight the fact that this prime minister and his 2nd rate government haven't got the sense of purpose, decency or skills to deal with the serious things.
That should be the reason why it won't go away until Johnson does.
I'm not being party political about this, there are decent Torys but Johnson has excluded them and gathered all the shit ones together to attempt to run the country for the benefit of Conservative party donors.
He needs to go and the UK needs to take a long hard look at itself and get some decent people from right across the political spectrum making decisions that benefit the whole country or we will be in some serious shit in fifty years time(although Rees-Mogg says that's when we will see the brexit benefits!!!!).

I've not been able to turn the news on for weeks without hearing reports on this. I've started watching Al Jazeera and realised how refreshing it is to hear reports on important global events. Hardly a word about partygate.

I watch Euronews now and again, but only for 15 mins as the 16th is the start of the 15 mins again.

And more sleaze comes sliding off the presses...

"No 10 officials speaking anonymously to BBC Panorama said they sometimes arrived at work to find bins overflowing with empty bottles from parties the night before and security guards who tried to stop one illegal gathering taking place were laughed at."

You know, he (Johnson) wasn’t there saying: ‘This shouldn’t be happening!’ He wasn’t saying: ‘Can everyone break up and go home? Can everyone socially distance? Can everyone put masks on?’ No, he wasn’t telling anybody that. He was grabbing a glass for himself!”

And this was the man delivering daily briefings to the country on how to behave during the pandemic.

Mind you, i was working during the lockdown and we had a colleague retiring during that period, so we had one drink at the end of the day, completely socially distant from each other.
One drink...completely socially distanced. In other words you were trying to behave in the spirit of the rules.

Al Jazeera wholly owned by the Qatar Government. How very independent.

That all came across as a bit ranty to be honest.

I bet your not sick of ‘Beergate’? 🤔

As this threads focus is on whether BJ was at a party or whether Starmer broke the rules, start to understand why they did.

It's really not difficult. It just means accepting you were taken for a fool. Which is the difficult part.

The biggest overreaction to a virus that we were told from the start had 99% recovery rates followed by continuous sets of stupid and dumb rules, with people unable to work or able to go the gym to keep fit and healthy, see family and attend funerals. This list could go into the hundreds by the way, never forget though that you couldn’t actually go and watch your own football team, the reason for this board. That’s before we look at how we had 4,000 at Wembley and 2 weeks later England had half and then a full stadium… with the good old ‘cases’ on the rise.

As BJ supposedly almost died from Covid in a particularly "public" manner, being "taken for a fool" seems something of an understatement.

Who gives a flying fook about whether he had a sausage roll or cake and face up to the fact that this whole charade has been a load of nonsense.

Which we’re now all paying for.
