Shame that, I take it he lives in the Liverpool area or is he further afield ?
Whether he’s still there we don’t know. Seem to think he had back problems as a player?St Helens originally, it doesn't seem to me that far away by pro sports standards.
I’m sure you could do St Helen’s in 40 mins in one of those postie vans of yoursIf it is St Helens then I suppose it is a good 2 to 3 hours out of your day, I wouldn't want to do it. I have a 10 minute walk to work each day, time saved and money saved is worth a lot to me.
I can understand his decision, maybe didn't do his back any good either!!
Not if the roads are anything like last Friday!! If he came to Blackpool last Friday that might have been the final straw!!!I’m sure you could do St Helen’s in 40 mins in one of those postie vans of yours

He is a bona fide club legend in my eyes. Wish him well for the future.
Can I be the 1st to reply, it's solely between Murphs and the club"and it’s going to feel strange not to be associated with the Club anymore."
You'll always be associated with the Club John.
Disappointing.
Meanwhile, can I be the first to ask - "what was the real reason he left?...."
Proper number 9, always a goal threat and all sorts of goals, would be a great addition to have a big target man like that now.A great servant, on and off the pitch.
Huge kudos to him for the performances he got out of the youth team, particularly in the pre-Sadler days when resources were scarce.
The headline below says it all...
I'm certainly not well connected enough to know who will replace Murphs. I just go and watch the kids play and pick up a bit of information here and there. I'm sure Matty Blinkhorn and Ciaran Donnelly will be able to look after things on a caretaker basis until a replacement is found.Getting Murphy’s replacement right is just as important as getting the head coach appointment right. With the plan for the training ground and academy and the desire to develop our own players the clubs next step is massive. There’s a lot of good people at the academy already but I’ve no idea if anyone is ready to take on the lead role. Perhaps Insider knows more ?
Murphs has been leaving for ages, nothing to do with Appleton.Sorry but there seems to be too many of the team leaving today. Big John has done an amazing job and I genuinely hope this has been his own choice. He is a club legend.

Nothing ‘has happened’ as you put it. Read Murph’s explanation and you will see it makes a lot of sense…Does seem a bit odd resigning on the first day back at training with the new coaching set-up.
Surely, if you were going to resign, you'd have done it on the last day of training at the end of last season.
Anyway whatever has happened, he was a good player for us and hope it goes well for him in the future.
I agree but In the lower leagues?Brett and Murphs. Still one of the best strike combinations we've ever had.
Ok but who knows if they couldn't have had success as a partnership higher. Brett scored goals in the prem. Lower leagues maybe, but they had an almost telepathic understanding.I agree but In the lower leagues?
