Patino best position?

Looking at his highlights he looks more like a deep lying playmaker rather than a number 10. He seems comfortable collecting the ball off the defence and getting moves started.

Make no mistake it's what we have needed. But will he be used in rotation with another man (Fiorini) who looks like he likes to play the same way?

It'll be interesting to see how MA uses his midfielders this season.

I think we play with one holding Connolly, Stewart or Dougall

With two of Virtue, Carey, Fiorini and the new kid
I think Virtue may go out on loan, although Fiorini could play on the left or right of a front 3. I hope Bowler stays but I think he may go to a PL team now and for more than was touted in January. It would pave the way for Rogers on a permanent.

I think we look to shift Anderson & Dale too.

None of those holders are right long term.
I agree, Stewart would be great if only he could stay fit and Connolly and Dougall are both good enough to do it, but a Barry Fergusson or an Andy Morrison type would be good, it's a position where an experienced older EPL player would work wonders, a bit like Keogh did in defence last season.

Music.

The older PL player.......now I wonder what Hendricks is doing...

I would say Connelly is our best holding midfielder. He is the most physical and is underrated when it comes to his technical ability.

I still don't get why Virtue was given a new deal. I think this level is too high for him.
Virtue may have been given contract by Critch who obviously rated him
Now getting game time under Appleton who obviously rates him
Still only a few games in since his recovery from injury, so I think far too early to write him off.

Never really rated him to be honest.

Wants too long on the ball and had some bad injuries too.

Happy to be proven wrong but he doesn't do it for me and I think there are others ahead of him in the pecking order.

Agree to differ, but the bad injuries is unfair, he had 1 very serious injury which is fully healed

Arsenal will expect him to play most games. The lad along side him will be Fiorini or Carey. Stewart won’t last a season, Dougall or Virtue will play as the DM.
I just hope Charlie settles quickly, if he does, He will be a massive player for us.

Appleton may be tempted to play both Fiorini and Patino but I'm not sure they will both be on the pitch together very much, at least until and unless they prove it can work. Arsenal may have limited Patino's games to protect him.

Saturday I think it should be Dougall, Connelly, and Fiorini. But looks like no RB to free up Connolly so Stoke might trample us. Carey, Virtue and Patino on the bench.

Then grow and adapt from there according to how it works out. The physicality of this division will demand that we maintain a strong physical presence in midfield. Surely. Im not sure Appo is up to speed fully on this yet. Could be wrong.

Good job you’re not the manager! Are you Quitchley in disguise?? 🙈

100% agree. He's got a bit of a 'nice problem' with those two but on first impression they seem very similar. Agree with your Saturday selection as well. I personally thought Dougall made a solid contribution when he came on.

We don’t want to go back to 2 defensive midfielders, it was turgid last season, jur one and 2 in front. What’s the matter with you guys??

Watch and learn. 👨‍🎓

Do City and Liverpool play a couple of tricky kids in the middle of the park?

That's Arsenals job!

He will most likely be a deep-lying playmaker to allow Fiorini to play further up the pitch.

That’s why we need Stewart, Dougall or Connolly behind them. We aren’t going to have got these players in on loan not to play them.
Maybe. But a skinny 18 year old isn't likely to play 46 league games i suspect? And if we get over run with just the one defensive midfielder Appleton will have to adjust. I dont know whats going to happen but both Fiorini and Patino feels risky to me, this is a big learning curve for botb of them. Patino struggled against Forest apparently, in his one start for the Arsenal first team, last season

My opinion on this is a lot depends on Kevin Stewart and his return to the team, can the powers that be put a
return date on him ? Will it be before Sept 1st or even the break in November ? I still think an experienced
midfield campaigner for this division will be required. Sonny Carey as we know has the potential but needs a lot
more game time also. Patino for me will be introduced as and when the situation demands from the bench eventually
becoming a regular. I would also favour Dougall in midfield but Virtue has a lot of honesty in his game and will
give you 100% every time.

Reading completely bossed Fiorini and Carey once they realised the season had started.

Reading.
I dont disagree but a major part of the issue was Virtue who was blowing out of his arse after 40 mins. Carey was poor but can improve given a quality holding midfielder covering for him..my guess is he will be replaced by Patino for now...I am sure Patino and Fiorini will be tried together in training and we can see how that works...I hope Stewart can be given one last chance to prove his fitness.

Plus there’s Carey too and Virtue so we have plenty of midfielders now. I am on the fence with Virtue, I think he has the potential and he seems highly regarded at the club but that last injury was a horror. I hope we keep him in the squad. Fiorini is going to play every week pretty much so it leaves the one place to fill. At least we have competition for places there this season. I watched the Forest game last season and to be fair, Arsenal were dreadful all over the pitch.

Plus we may sign Hendricks/Henderson/Hendry or just an ex battery Hen 🤓🤓

Tim Henman having a medical today. 👍

Expect a volley of abuse on here, and lots of back handed compliments. The avftt grass is always greener on the other side of the net.

He likes to get forward and he is pretty tricky. Just a thought, it's going to be interesting who will be the regular players. I don't think Apper's is like like Critch, he likes to play a settled side, Critch changed it every game.

Seemed to like picking it up off the centre backs and playing with the pitch in front of him from what I saw. Seems akin to suggesting David Vaughan play either side in a front 3.
