Reading v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 27.04.24

Reading need to let us win; Dave Windridge hit the crossbar 3 minutes from the end of their 1-0 win in 1985 that started their consecutive win run, AND how could they want Oxford to go up?

Reading: Go on then, what you saying?

I live down south and I am tempted, but I haven’t seen us win away for ages…I am really worried it would be my fault if we didn’t get the result! And I went to Walsall and Lincoln….

    Barnsley invasion

You NEVER give the away team and end to attack….halfway line works if you keep them in until home fans depart.

A few out walking the dog tonight

Credit to the people that have put us in with at least a chance, including the coaching team and fans that believe. Can we do it? Will we sneak in thanks to the ineptitude of others? Frankly, I will take it.

    FA Cup Replays Scrapped

I saw this and thought of the 1989-90 cup run. We were a bang-average team that deservedly got relegated but those cup ties and the QPR replays were among the few bright spots.

Who thinks we'll make the P/O's?

I have tried to forget Walsall as that was just…urghhh…whereas Wrexham in 1997 was comparable to this season….a late run and a smidgeon of hope, only to be dashed. Those +ive outcomes were strange; I actually felt confident for all 3.

Who thinks we'll make the P/O's?

I cannot forget Cardiff and Orient conspiring to do us. I went to York, hoping for a Posh miracle at Oxford. I went to Sincil Bank, thinking Mansfield would slip up and that a draw with in-form Lincoln would suffice. When we went ahead at Old Trafford, I thought 'yes, we can do this'. Each...

    The run in

Thank you, ghf; I at the end of the day, it goes without saying that in this day and age, it is better to have your glass half full rather than half empty...and that is Mr Sadler's view on NC. D'you see what I did there?

    The run in

I will put my hand up and say that I didn’t think we had a chance of promotion but yet, here we are. We are playing the fiddle while Rome burns and if that means that we have a seat in the play-offs when the music stops, I will take that. It appears the morbidly obese woman has not yet...

Bloody hell.. we're still in it!!!

We have messed it up in times when it looked like we were seemingly home and hosed; it’d be nice to do it the unlikeliest way of all.

    Season over tonight thread.

Weird, we take 4 pts off the champions but throw them away in games against other teams we might ordinarily be expected to beat.

    Season over tonight thread.

Don’t you love wallowing in nostalgia? Tonight is taking me back nearly 30 years to the last time we were hoping Oxford would screw up… And we all know what happened then.

22 Years since we lost King Billy

As you can see from my avatar, on the left, Billy means more to me than I can say in words.

Not sure I’d want to watch us in the P/O’s

Like a Sherpa Van 2-legged Northern Area Final? A tale of 2 penalties, perhaps?

    Grimmy

I think he is one of the few players in our team that would be a genuine target for other clubs to pay a decent fee....

Anyone still going to Carlisle ?

Every credit to those that will travel; I really hope the team rewards that loyalty. I've been to BP a few times and it's usually a close game with a good atmosphere. NC's tactics do not deserve the level of support that our fans provide away from home.

Has Critchley lost the Dressing Room ?

Team spirit is something that is hard to build and you cannot always buy it. To me, we have a collection of players rather than a cohesive group of men that would do battle for their teammates. The team captain should be leading the club from the dressing room and onto the pitch. Away from...

    todays team

Good spot, 20togo; is he sending SS a subtle message? Or is he telling us that it all downhill from here….
  19. Thepoolaregoingup

Is Critch 2.0 a bit arrogant?

I think he found out that you can be financially successful - through compensatory pay-offs for being unsuccessful - that he didn’t really need to try that hard any more…. Either that, or he was just in the right place at the right time, the first time around.
  20. Thepoolaregoingup

    Time to go Neil.....

The longer he stays, the more damage he does to the potential success of the club. I’d love to be proved wrong, but to me he is now a toxic and malign presence.
