    Reality Check

Before dreaming up combinations of favourable results which might see us into the top six, just remember for a moment the away days at……….Burton, Cheltenham, Stevenage, Port Vale, Cambridge, Orient and Wigan. Five of these teams are fighting relegation, and Pool managed one goal and no points...

Why is Pool’s set piece delivery so bad ?

Pool scoring from a free kick or corner is as rare as hen’s teeth. The ball rarely gets past the first man, and if it does, it often goes over the top of everyone. There is no pressure on the ball from a free kick or corner. They have all week to practice, but the end result is …….nothing ! Why ?

    Then and now

Just a couple of years ago, Pool had Kev, Kenny and Keshi in midfield. They also had Dick calling the shots at the Back.THAT was a foundation upon which any team could be built. We are light years away from that !

    The level of expectation

Blackpool are a not very good mid table Division 3 side. The PL is long gone, and the Championship is way out of reach at this time. Pool have quite a lot of ordinary players, which will get you to, and keep you, in mid table. There is no way in the world that this squad can get anywhere near...

I think that Norburn is part of the problem.

The difference yesterday when Virtue came on for him was evident. We actually get into their box to scare them a time or two. His first reaction when receiving the ball is usually to turn and face his own goal. He is SO slow to move the ball on, that any advantage that might be gained from...

    Sorry lads, but Dembele……

….Is a waste of space. Absolutely nothing from him…again !

    The Super Casino

Any chance that Pool would find that all important booster to their finances and ultimate status, disappeared when the enterprise was ludicrously awarded to East Manchester. Gordon Brown scrapped it on the spot. He was willing to proceed had it gone to Blackpool, recognising that it was a good...

    Possession based football.

Pool try to play it, as evidenced by their patience passing the ball along the back line and back. The idea of this tactic is to give the midfield players the chance to find space and “show” for the ball. They don’t seem to be doing too well at that, because the back line are eventually closed...

    Looking back since 2007

Pool have been to Wembley five times : Yeovil, Cardiff, West Ham, Exeter and Lincoln. Four wins and somehow losing to West Ham in a game they dominated. They all had one thing in common: they FELT like Pool were a team that could be promoted. Today’s crew do not ! Had they won yesterday, they...

    It must be me

Euphoria after an away win at night. I think Pool were solid enough, but their final pass is nearly always the let-down. With Beesley and Rhodes up top, why do Pool so rarely try to get to the bye-line and cross to the far post. Instead they try to play it through on the deck, and usually fail...

    Heavy Rain

Lashing down in these parts, and has been all night. Tonight’s game may be at risk.

    More of same please.

Pool have been dreadful away from home, particularly at night. Hostile crowds, unsympathetic Refs and under opposition floodlights, they have wilted. We have no reason to suppose anything will change on Tuesday, but hope springs eternal. Pool showed us something last Saturday in the last 20 mins...

    The Cross Road

On Tuesday, a depleted Pool go to Northants. Pool surprised me at Shrewsbury, where they were uncertain until the second goal went in, but they got the job done. Their immediate contenders for the 6th play off spot have tricky games ( Oxford at Bolton, and Stevenage at Posh), it’s really all...

This may be irrelevant on Saturday at 5pm, but…

…….how many points will be needed to finish 6th ? As all the teams involved have play each other, the total might not be as many as you think. I reckon 74.

    I watched with wonder…..

…….at CJ’s (reasonable) impersonation of a plank as our RWB. No doubt instructed to stay wide, I doubt if he touched te balll half a dozen times before being hooked off. With Lyons out of the reckoning for a while , Gabriel would seem to have a free run in that position. Coulson, yesterday, was...

Wyhdoes NC play a back three ?

He was the Guv’nor when we were promoted last time, and he had Ballard and The Viking as twin CH’s. I recognise that Norburn and Byers are not in the same class as Stewart and Dougall, so maybe he feels the need to play another central midfielder. Either way; it isn’t working !

Do we ever beat The Shrews ?

I am taxed to remember the last time. They beat us twice during our last promotion season.

    Once upon a time….

…. …..we had Kev and Kenny. Now we have no one. Not one of our midfield players is as good as either of them.

The pint is : they were better than us.

Their passing and movement off the ball was streets ahead of ours. Pool did not have a shot on target all night. They could have had three or four goals by the end. The back three is a failed tactic. The team are not comfortable with it, or we do not have the right players to make it work. Pool...

I hate these away games on Tuesday.

We never win them. We get dragged into fights, and aren’t good enough at that. I’m glass half empty on Tuesday away-days 💀
