Basketball on the Fylde Coast - NEW BOOK

A good friend of mine, Dave Shaw, is about to release his new book "What Time Is It? Game Time - A history of Basketball on the Fylde Coast. Some of you may know Dave from Warbreck in the late 70's, Blackpool Sixth Form or from the local Basketball scene. Signed copies, priced £17.50, will be...

    Shout out for Beesley

Had a thankless task after the sending off but he certainly put a shift in up front with absolutely zero help from the officials. Never any question about his attitude.

GUN at The Waterloo - Wed 28th Feb

Scottish rockers GUN return to The Waterloo Music Bar on Wednesday 28th February. They were fantastic last time.

    Jerry Yates to Blackburn?

Bit of talk in Welsh press that Jerry may be off to Blackburn on loan or even permanent.

Bournemouth v Swansea FA Cup Sky 134

Anyone in need of a Thursday night footy fix, Bournemouth v Swansea Fa Cup is on Sky channel 134. Patino and Yates start for Swansea. Anyone know how to get English commentary?

When was our first home midweek league match under floodlights?

The first match under floodlights at Bloomfield Road was on 13th October 1958 against Hearts. Apparently a lot of matches to commemorate the launch of floodlights at grounds were played between English and Scottish teams in the 1950's when the majority of floodlights were installed. Anyone know...

Was their keeper the tallest player ever?

Six foot nine apparently. He wasn’t overly commanding in the air considering his size. Cant ever recall a taller player. Thought we could have had a bit more variety on corners.

    Quickest goal on home debut.

Kyle Joseph scored six minutes after coming on for his home debut. Anyone recall anything faster?

    Jake Beesley goal stats

Of the top of my head I think he has scored eight goals for Blackpool, but only scored in four matches and in four different competitions. 2 v Birmingham in the Championship 2 v Derby in the Carabao cup 2 v Morecambe in the EFL Trophy 2 v Shrewsbury in League One. Is that right?

Not even on the bench today.

Norburn, Kouassi, Gabriel, Virtue, Lavery, Thompson, Oakley-Boothe. We certainly have a strong squad with plenty of games coming up including cup matches.

Glen Maxwell 201* for the Aussies v Afghanistan.

One of the greatest ever knocks in cricket. Plenty of records smashed.

Was Big Marv lucky not to be sent off?

Looked similar to Casey on Saturday. Another day another referee could easily have sent him off.

Never seen us play against Stevenage.

A new opposition for me on Saturday. Reckon I’ve seen close to 110 different teams in league matches only against the Pool since 1973. Can only think of Rushden and Diamonds who went bust and are still way down the Leagues. Anyone kept a record of their own matches?

Why wasn’t the Reading player booked?

For the penalty it was clear foul on CJ. At least a yellow card.

    Marv coming on as sub.

Seemed to be waiting for ages to come on at the end. Don’t see the point of bringing on an extra central defender right at the death when the defence has played well all match. Nothing against Marv but kind of glad he didn’t come on as it can cause panic.

    Beesley

Thought he worked hard and won most of his headers. Unfortunately in the second half especially his flick-ons went the opposite way in which Lavery was running.

Quiet away fans dampen the atmosphere.

Thought they were the quietest away fans I can recall. I know we have to create our own atmosphere, but it’s difficult to maintain that when there’s absolutely no banter between sets of supporters. The tempo of the game in the second half matched the atmosphere.

My 50th season watching the Pool.

Starting tomorrow is my 50th season of watching the Pool. Numerous ups and downs along the way but wouldn’t want it any other way. How long has everyone else been watching the Mighty Tangerines..?

    No Scapegoats this season.

Some of the comments made already even before the season has started against a minority of our players beggars belief. i know its only a fraction of the fanbase but for gods sake just get behind ALL the players. Critch sees the players everyday and as he's one of the most highly qualified...
