1 week on from the pubs etc. re-opening...

820 new cases today. That's a jump from 373 last Saturday which was benefiting from the last of the stricter lockdown and 499 the Saturday before. Highest number of daily new cases since 18th June.

Not sure what the answer is with balancing the economic situation but more than doubling in a single week isn't a good sign. Seems inevitable masks are going to be needed wherever people come together in confined spaces to try and counter-balance the relaxed restrictions.

I don't think you can judge one day in isolation, better look at 7 day averages, as the number of tests and their results vary from day to day. Also, it is far too soon to say what the impact of opening the pubs is

I think masks are the way forward here, certainly if we are still struggling with the numbers heading into the Autumn.
It doesn’t solve it all, but I am pretty sure it will make a significant statistical difference at least.
Pretty cheap as well.
Come on Boris sort it out, and hit it with Public Information adverts while you are at it.

I agree with this, it's just one day and the 7 day trend has been slowly downward (both infections and deaths) until now. Without stating the obvious, I really hope that the trend continues. The other thing that is not factored in is that the number of new cases recorded is dependent on the number of tests carried out, if we had both figures for each day then the ratio of these would be a better measure of infection rates in the community.

Pubs are open too late. They should close at 10, before the 'I want to say sd but can't' turn into 'You're me bezzy you is, giz a hug'.

Sunday's total this week 650. Last Sunday 529. Whilst showing the expected rise, it's not as bad, like for like, as Saturday's comparison.
