17 in 1 out?

Unless the Express isn't talking shite as usual. I just googled it and I think they are confusing the negotiations with a new Instant Pot model.
Based off this...

Le Monde, the respected French newspaper, reported on Wednesday: “The number of people affected would be symbolic, at the highest of around 50 returns to France per week.”

Wait until the idiots introduce a wealth tax and whilst losing 15,000 of these when they fcuk off abroad we accept 25,000 illegal immigrants who haven’t got a pot to p!ss in. A migrant being interviewed on TV this morning in France was asked “what you going to do if you get to the UK?”, “It depends what the Government give me” was his answer!🤬🤬

Yep we're such a soft touch, except the people have had enough now.

If Labour won't do enough, which is clear they won't then they'll lose and Reform will.

I think we need to see the full agreement, rather than snippets. And work out what it all means. These immigrants aren't French either are they. What is France supposed to do with them?

And I'm looking forward to seeing how Reform deals with it. The whole of Europe is trying to deal with migrants arriving in large numbers. What's the cause, and what's the solution? What would Farage do?

Glad you're looking forward to a reform Government 👍

They'll be a lot tougher and noone who comes can stay, that message needs putting out, never touch uk mainland soil, taken to 3rd country, boats taken back etc.

Once people realise they won't be allowed to stay and are spending their life savings to go nowhere they'll stop.

Needs a tough Government though.

But Reform is a rag tag and bobtail collective isn't it?

And is focused on one or two issues that it magnifies in importance, in my opinion. And it's the people who gave us the horror show of Brexit, which cost the country many billions, wasted zillions of man hours, caused the neglect of key infrastructure, and left us all poorer.

Clueless people.

No.

BBC reporting probable 1 in 1 out deal, returning boat people in return for a genuine asylum seeker

  • The so-called "one in, one out" deal would see France would send an asylum seeker to the UK - possibly with a family connection to Britain - for every migrant sent back

Unlike the Express to get it's facts wrong lol

Trial to start soon with small number. Amazing what can actually happen when we talk to our neighbours instead of shouting at them. Presumably, as Reform are more bothered about boat people than all the real illegal immigrants, they will welcome this?

It’s funny how as part of Brexit we effectively stuck two fingers up to our nearest neighbours across the channel and now we expect them to solve our immigration issues. It’s almost laughable…shouldn’t we have just stayed in the EU?
We aren't land locked like some countries it should be easy to solve with proper border control

It's a French problem as well as they enter France first, France should deal with it and not just pack them off to good old Blighty

Staying in the EU would have made bog all difference we have been allowing rubbish into our country long before Brexit

You really need to stop blaming Brexit for everything is massive red herring

So why has illegal immigration gotten significantly worse since Brexit if it’s such a massive red herring?

Brexit has cost and will continue to cost our economy hundreds of billions. It’s been a complete catastrophe.

Because it's not been managed properly obviously

Successive governments completely useless and too scared about breakin red tape and upsetting the human rights lawyers

Too soft by far and now its at epidemic level

People coming to this country to sponge of the state costing billions a year

Migrants who are entitled to remain contribute more to the economy than what they take out. Numerous studies have proved that.

A more accurate statement is that over one million foreign nationals are claiming benefits, and households with at least one foreign national claimant received over £7.5 billion in Universal Credit in 2023

...and it's only gonna increase. Do any of you lefties think this is anywhere near acceptable?

I read that as one foreign national has received 7.5 billion 😂

Suppose the question is how many “natives” are also claiming benefits. I suspect that’s many more millions. The issue is the system itself, not those benefiting from/exploiting it

That's millionaire businessmen getting massive state subsidies by paying meagre wages to migrant workers they prefer to employ, the State subsidising it through UC, while the profit levels are unchanged. Pretty poor business model if that's the plan.

By the way, the vast majority of these 'foreign nationals' are Irish who are entitled under the special arrangements we have with them, but you forgot to mention that as it doesn't play as well with the xenophobes.
How do you work that out?
I don't. Statisticians do. Entitled to remain enables them to get a job and pay more in taxes than they take out in benefits, healthcare etc. Its all there if you do your research instead of assuming.

Execpt it's getting it from Le Monde.

ah right, so then in your eyes it's not a problem the foreign nationals exploiting the system because it's the systems fault.

If something isn't mentioned in what i read then how can i forget to mention it! You don't half come up with a load of nonsense.

The Fiscal Impact of Immigration in the UK - Migration Observatory - The Migration Observatory https://share.google/nFxMYcTGGVtbgZQNZ

From the AI summary to the question 'Do migrants contribute more to the economy than they take out?'

AI Overview

Yes, on balance, migrants generally contribute more in taxes and other payments to the UK economy than they receive in public services and benefits. Studies consistently show a positive net fiscal impact, meaning migrants pay more into public finances than they take out.

Entitled to remain? again what makes someone entitled to remain and how do people who come on small boats contribute more when they get fed, clothed and given accommodation whilst not working or paying taxes

If they're entitled to remain they contribute.

If they're not, they are deported.

Read the independent reports, not the Telegraph.

Lol.
The OBR estimated the cost to the public purse rose to almost £500,000 if they lived to 80, and more than £1m if they lived to 100.

By contrast, the average British-born worker boosts the public finances by £280,000 by the time they reach 66.

Lol.

Only if they work legally, how many work legally?

How many have been deported since the start of the year?

If you are gonna band around generalisations and quote facts and figures surely you should have them at hand

I haven't quoted facts and figures.

Deportations are up 35,000 on the same time as last year.

The very title of this thread is a lie, by the way.

perhaps you deliberately overlooked this part of the report.

"For example, in recent years the cost of the UK’s asylum system has increased substantially as the asylum backlog has risen—a 2023 data release from the Home Office estimated that the cost of housing asylum seekers in hotels stood at around £8 million per day. However, most studies pre-date the backlog and thus do not consider these costs."

The backlog is being cleared, as you know. A deliberate Tory ploy to confect a crisis which you right whingers have lapped up.

Ah right, so this govt is in crisis then having had to do so many u turns on policies you were happy with you just to make them credible. Seems Starmer is desperate to hang on to power. Even his own party members can see he and his govt are making a mess of so many issues.

And is it coming down? A quick google shows that the appeals backlog is up 80%.

Are you denying that deportations went down because the Tories reduced the staff looking at applications?

These things take time to turn around.

The NHS waiting lists are down and deportations are up, with asylum seekers in hotels down from 56,000 to 35,000, so plans are starting to bear fruit. It takes time.

Two separate things, matey

Outstanding applications for asylum are indeed down, as more staff have been taken on.

Appeals, those disagreeing with the outcome of their application, may well be up, I suppose if more decisions are being given, there is a logic to it.

Here to help

Quite. If you're not making a decision, then there's nothing to appeal.
