Well here we are on the eve of the Championship…..a great 4 days of golf in prospect for fans. I understand it’s not for everyone but this is the main event of the year in the golfing calendar- the tournament they all want to win. Portrush looking in magnificent condition and some extremely difficult holes to negotiate.

As always very difficult to pick just one winner but for me John Rahm looks like he will be up there come Sunday afternoon. Rory found form last week in Scotland but will the pressure of playing in front of his home fans prove too much. I hope not because any tournament that Rory plays well in is always compelling viewing.
Tyrell Hatton always features well in the Majors too.

What do you fellow fans think?

Remember going when it was at Lytham, don’t think it’ll ever be there again unless they redesign the course. 1996 - Tiger Woods was a still an amateur and me and my cousin pestered him until he very angrily relented to an autograph request. Got to congratulate Sir Nick on his 1996 masters win although he was also a bit surly ha.

Would love Tommy to win, maybe he learned something from the Travellers collapse?

Ryan Fox is my outside pick

Has anybody applied in the ballot for Birkdale next year? I've tried for Thurs and Friday. What are the odds normally on being successful?

I have, first time ever applying but a mate has done it in the past and only managed practice days. They seem to be advertising it a lot so maybe the take up is smaller this year?

My leftfield bet will brian harmon at 100/1
Won it before in poor weather and very straight off the tee......don't care for him but thats my value bet

Crazy money £100 to £130 depending on what days you go.

R&A not for going to Lytham or Turnberry due to spectator numbers.

Everything about money these days, sad really.

Interesting Stat that 53/54 previous open winners were in the top 50... Surprised me tbf!

With that in mind I've gone with 3 outsiders, Conners, Fox and Clark 10 places.

If they don't win I hope Rory does. Really looking forward to it and very jealous of anyone going... I was balloted out 😢

I have tickets for all of the golf at Birkdale including practice days, through my mate who's a member.

Nothing to do with spectator numbers at Lytham. The main sticking point has been the driving range not being big enough.

The ballot is largely irrelevant as the ticket resale platform always has tickets available right up to the week of the championship. This year is an anomaly as they make fewer tickets available due to transport limitations in getting here.

I walked down the 18th fairway at Lytham on the Monday when Seve won. Our club stewarded the 14th so I was allowed in front of the rope, Seve was about 10m away and I remember thinking this is the closest I'll get to golfing greatness! Still get goose bumps.
I was lucky enough to get his autograph at Birkdale in '91

That is exactly what they have just finished doing, for this very reason. It only took them a short amount of time compared as they have the funding, but it’s totally different.

They had to do it in order to host The Open again, and have a decent practice area. The Senior Open and The Ladies Open are both heading back, and I believe The Open Championship maybe looking within the next 6 years.

My pre start picks were Rahm and EW Harman.
I went Scottish Open last week. Anyone who doesn't get a ticket for Birkdale 2026, really should consider going to Scotland. It was a great event only £55 for a weekend daily ticket. Great value with 8/10 in world rankings playing.
