22 Years since we lost King Billy

PLAYED 37, WON 31, DRAWN 5, LOST 1, FOR 89, AGAINST 21

Hey Critch, you get adoration by the supporters by making us invincible at home and actually trying to win games by more than 1 goal! the man was a legend. RIP Billy

WAS not my era. To busy parenting to bother at the time. No doubt about his record though. Do remember listening to the 1992 play off .

A manager who worked wonders with limited resources and had superb motivational skills . He certainly proves the point that coaching badges aren’t the be all and end all.
100% spot on.

Players would run through brick walls for him. I vividly recall a promotion showdown v BC which we won 1-0. Terry Cooper, the BC manager was interviewed after the game and a comment from him was 'what does he (BA) feed the players, raw meat?'

We were like a juggernaut at home. Bigger, quicker, more skillful and plain nastier than most teams.

I remember one spell where we beat someone 5-0, then in the next game the visitors took the lead then we put 6 past them. Plus we beat York 1-0 and Dean Keeley in their nets had an absolute blinder.

The only team to school us were Barry Fry's Barnet who were brilliant; we hung in there and somehow beat them in the play offs.

I loved that Pool side.

That might be the great mans record in the basement division or something different but we certainly got beat far more than once at home under King Billy in the 92/93 and 93/94 seasons ?????????????????????????

Can I be a pedant and point out that the correct word is pedantry? :)

I agree with you about 92/93 in particular, btw.

Funny you say that Robbie as I'm never sure about the word and have asked about it umpteen times before.

Before you say it, my continual use of the word and request for spelling obviously confirms my pedantry !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Billy was without doubt the best we've had - always true to us, never let us down, gave us some brilliant times, put the pride back in the shirt. Allan Brown would be next in line for me. Lots of similarities, done over by Cartmell.

My earliest memory of watching Blackpool is Billy looking towards the south stand and giving it the fist.

What a man. RIP King Billy 🧡

RIP King Billy. A true giant of a man who will always be my favourite Pool manager. The play off defeat in 91 was my worst moment as a Pool fan. Billy's interview after that defeat on pens to Torquay will stay with me forever. A tv reporter asked him if he'd had a worse moment in football. A visibly drained Billy said "I've never had a worse moment in me life" To see him 12 months later on the town hall steps celebrating a play off win and promotion was priceless.
