220 asylum seekers being housed in the Metropole

Just watching Ambulance on BBC1. One of the paramedics is a former Somalian refugee, now with a thick Scouse accent. Another reminder how beneficial refugees can be to this country.
That paramedic was brilliant. He had a great manner about him, showed great empathy towards his patients, spoke perfect English with a strong scouse accent and even had a scouse sense of humour. He came to the UK aged 11 and at that time he couldn't speak any English. What a credit he is to himself, his loved ones and the ambulance service.

Could build one of those covid type hospitals they hardly used, in Poulton,Lytham or other surrounding areas if BC have turned them away. Provide them with meal and we can donate clothing and accessories .

Don t know the background of the people who are going to be housed at the Metropole and if they have
been properly screened and vetted.
Yeah not necessarily these folk as we have no idea if genuine or what the backstory is, but the ones coming across the channel with no documents so they can't be sent back, its a big security risk given it only takes 1 terrorist to cause utter carnage.

We know isis or whoever else can and will use any means to gain entry.

We already have enough of a problem with imported and homegrown nutters, aprox 3000 that we know about on constant watch which is a huge drain on resources.

Also...

Security should be no joke yet our country seems incredibly weak and so easy to get in and it could be anyone entering.

Although aprox 3k actively there's apparently 43000 on the watchlist of which 90% are islamists, although some haven't been to the UK but we will have to watch for them if they do arrive, there's only so many moving parts we can track without missing one piece.

Ita a worrying number of potential nutters wanting to do us harm.

Seems like your local council have a great deal of faith and trust in your new friends from foreign parts. I picked up a copy of the Gazette today, the front-page headline "£2m camera upgrades to tackle terrorism". I wasn't aware there was that much terrorism in Blackpool unless you count those aggravating little tykes from Fleetwood and Preston. Apparently, the number of cameras are to be increased from 92 to 346,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,........have fun folks! It left me wondering will the towns in the West Midlands be doing the same?

How many terrorist incidents have been caused in the UK by illegal immigrants?
Unless you have the numbers you cannot justify the prejudice of your statements!

We dont know that's the point, its not secure at all.

Wheres the prejudice in the statement saying people arriving without any idea who they are could be anyone and could easily be taken advantage of by nasty groups like the ones who want to do us harm.

Anyone can see thats a possibility if you have no idea who is coming in.

As far as I am aware, every terrorist act carried out in the UK has been investigated and the perpetrators apprehended or killed. I'll ask again. How many of those criminals were illegal immigrants?
It is the use of the racist trope that all immigrants are potential terrorists that is prejudiced.

I may be wrongly assuming you are a Blackpool resident? Maybe I should have said Blackpool Council does not have as much trust as you.
Oh, and I forgot to mention over 100 speakers are going to be installed capable of announcing public safety messages. If this was April 1st I'd swear blind it was a joke.

The difference now to 2005, is that we are getting thousands of immigrants arriving across the channel, either by sea or lorry. Some are taken and processed, some evade getting caught. The bottom line is, they are in addition to home grown radicals, so the situation is bound to be more serious. Add to that the Afghanistan fiasco, the potential for terror groups to re-start the training camps and the anger at the scenes inside the Bagram jail and it’s not difficult to see the concern being expressed by security services.

At no point did I say the words that all immigrants are terrorists, I said the ones coming across through channel with no documents, its not hard to figure out that it's a security risk to have people arrive with no identity. Why is it far left lunatics like you are always having to invent what people say and attack a strawman.....

Do you really think a bad egg couldn't slip in that way? Any fair minded person can see the potential for a big security risk there.

A sort of update:

I see that a number of asylum seekers have been housed in The Metropole Hotel, despite this originally being knocked back.
But then there was a sudden turnaround, and a reduced number of asylum seekers were housed in there, after all.

About 150 are now resident there, so we are told.
So a lot less than what we were expecting a few weeks ago.

We were originally told that these were not going to be Afghans, but people who had arrived on the south coast by dinghy (mostly young males).

But about 10 days ago there seemed to be another turnaround, and we were told that it would mainly be women, or women with children, and families.

I, and many others were a bit sceptical about this.

Anyway, it was a nice day today, and working nearby, I had my lunch on the promenade, near to the back of the Metropole Hotel, and was able to see for myself.

I actually managed to see quite a few of the residents, and nearly all of them were indeed young women, or women with children.

In fact, I can only remember seeing one male adult, and he was with his wife and 2 children.

Yeh, Britannia Hotels are terrible!
Nooooooh! The one in Llandudno is ace. As is the one in Scarborough. Had many a bonkers night in both. You just have to accept these things for what they are, e.g. woodchip never went out of fashion, tinsel and Turkey is most definitely a thing, and bingo is a worthwhile pursuit ✌

Stayed in the Prince of Wales in Southport back in the 80's when the Open was at Birkdale, sister hotel to the Imperial, quality place back then. Drove past it the other month to see a Brittania sign there. I suppose they are aimed at different clientel these days and no doubt change hands again when the price is right.

I hope they can drive fuel wagons, delivery trucks, grow food, stock shelves, plant trees, protect trees from theft, teach Nobbers to speak properly etc?
