25 Years of AVFTT - Favourite Memories

Not very original but the Windmill was my all time favourite.

More upto date that “Ginges” posts accusing everyone else of being angry or Critch haters then promptly fell out every time he posted the last being the Armfield FC posts which nearly ascended into another windmill thread.

Just the irony of it all made me chuckle.

Come on where's the stripey dress photo? Hpotter37 etc... posts were entertaining. Tommy Black was it that turned around on the M6 because it was raining? Remember selling Clarkey to Southend the world ended but Evo came in next day. OldLeeds, Chopper, The gloves, Berlin, ValleyMcB lots of entertaining posters. Happy Birthday AVFTT (and seasiders.net mailing list which must be 5 years older).
I'm still here but very rarely post anymore. Valley McB and I got married 3 years ago. Been down south 10 years now.

I’ve shared things on here that I don’t and won’t share with others. Not sure how that came to be, but it is so.
We are a family.
Likewise, with the sharing here and here only. Odd isn't it?

Maybe, because unlike politics and footy, no one at all is ever anything less than supportive, often giving some good advice. Unlike outside where even those close to you can be thoughtless or cruel.

All my favourite memories of AVFTT are of my erudite and magnificent posts in which my vast knowledge and modesty shine through like a guiding light. Damn you guys are so lucky to have me here!

PMSL Straighters!

After about 10 years jousting wiv Twenties, I started feeling more like Born_in_the_Thirties and had to take a 5-year break...
I had a very brief spat with 20s like every other poster lol, but you two were legendary….. ALWAYS at each others throats n pulling up ancient posts to prove points etc.., you must have had bugger all to do.
Everyone is comparatively calm now and despite an odd ripple, this place is smoooth and rarely ‘windmill’ type chat lol

haha. Yeah, good to see you back on here more. Another little story of AVFTT is meeting your wife in the Prince of Wales, Pimlico when we played Brizzle last game of the season to get into the Championship play offs. Think she and her mate were in the smoke for a weekend and they watched the game in the PoW - which had become the place to meet for BASIL/London fans. Think my mate might have known her as she spent her earlier years in living in Poulton, but obviously I didn't know her or she me. During the general chat your good lady said something to me along the lines of 'my husband is Born in the Fifties on AVFTT'...

The other great point is realising how closely connected many of us are with mutual friends and all that even though most people's initial entry onto the board is anonymous and (in the old days) without any sort of visual clue to who is who.

Haha, I remember that 'coz my last wife told me as well😁

Also we have our Palace Shield cricketing connections, something Twenties was sadly lacking in - primarily because it was a game for gentlemen, although he could throw a good dart and domino!👍🧡

The thread by the Grimsby fan who listed everyone who could f**k off after Grimsby had been relegated from L2 a few years ago. Even Gok Wan randomly got a mention iirc

And yep, @Lytham_fy8 ""Dear Joffrey" posts were pretty good as well. Hope to see the return of George Orwell's picture again as his avatar when Lytham returns to the site.
Agree Dave, the Grimsby fan was hilarious
Got to say I loved reading Carpet Martin’s post.

We don't seem to get those hilarious (and clever) threads anymore. Perhaps we need aa 'sticky' where one of them is reproduced each week?

Humour is definitely still there but sometimes you need to look in the threads rather than look for a funny title.
Whilst I agree with the O/T board to rid us of all the politics etc it does seem to have weeded out those funny threads. Down to us as posters to change that.

yep, known fifties for sixty years now. It was great when we were having these spats. We'd ring each up and have a laugh and say to keep it going. Brilliant.

I was definitely reading, if not posting on this forum from around 2001, I remember a prominent poster called MurphysHeadGear. Rocky64 used to try and come up with chants which were hilariously bad, then was employed by the club, sad to hear he died.

OldLeeds hooliganism threads, CarpetMartins brilliant comedic stylings, kidder’s temper, message board rivalries where posters here would flood rival teams boards, good times.

Here’s to another 25 years, though by then I imagine we will either be sat in an apocalyptic wasteland or have chips implanted in our brains receiving beamed down reports about the east stand progress.

the "Sheffield Wednesday are so MASSIVE" for me.
But lots of good ones, thank you.
I must have missed the 8 darter, I'm going to look it up now.

I've no idea when I started on AVFTT.
Lived and worked in the Home Counties in late 1900s. Luton Airport etc.
Moved about a bit over the years, lived in France for 5 years in the early 21sC.
Robbie was a good friend of my son-in-law, went to school with him. That's how I 1st met him.
Son-in-law is now a Grandad, makes my daughter a Grandma.

Samms fictitious flight to Norwich was a cracker. The Old Leeds Friday night rants also had me in stitches.
Yep, he took a private jet from Barton aerodrome before I pointed out he would have ended up splattered across the M60 if he had tried that.

There was the poster (it was Frank K but can't remember his username) who had an obsession with rubber rings.

Chopper (great poster) and his spying on Hendry's training sessions at King Edward's school.

West Brom forum day visit to AVFTT and our reciprocal return trip a couple of weeks later.

The was a great thread we instigated on the Tranmere board which ended up with a massive spat between themselves about where Prenton Park is actually located.

The rabbit thread on the Boro board was terrific. The first time I read the 'It's only a head' post I spat coffee all over my PC.

O'Keefer's 'buy a hot dog' campaign.

Platos

Chopper aided by CleveleysPete at KE (and me for hendry's Chewit variety)

“What about the defence Larry” was a great thread.

Also who remembers Chopper McPhee and his trips to AKS playing fields to spy on pre season training sessions

The beauty about this site is you can have a difference of opinion with good friends and still stay good friends, particularly at a match.

Long may it continue.

Just to add I joined from the previous board in January 2000.
