3 points thrown away today

They were crap, officials poor, selection wrong etc, etc.
We've no right to expect points are there for the taking.
The fact is, we weren't good enough and the result suggests the better team won.
Were showing we can mix it with the good teams at this level, but can't dispatch average sides, which means safety remains our priority and we should stop all this talk of the playoffs.
Christmas usually brings us little, so here's hoping we can manage a few points in early December, otherwise we'll become embroiled in a dogfight.

I personally feel we play with one too many defensive midfielders.
Dougall is quality, but is more Southern than Adam, as is Wintle, Connolly, Reece James, Kevin Stewart… you get the picture.
So out of those, who gets picked?
For me, it’s Dougall. He’s got enough about him to be able to do the work and then pass to those who are better at creating.
We’ve not scored from midfield this season.
We’ve had goals from the wing (working in a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2, but not one through the middle from a midfielder.

Just let that sink in a bit. Do we settle for being solid and relying on the forwards to create their own chances, or do we play someone who knows how to strike a ball?
I’m betting NC&Co have already seen this and are actively working on it, as to me it’s a glaring problem. Thankfully, we aren’t conceding too many as well but at some point a balance needs to be found.
That's a real good analysis.
Ollies gungho approach was always one of 'if you score 1 we'll score 2, if you score 2 we'll score 3 etc'; whereas Critch plays safe, keeps the back door closed and try to pinch a goal.
I think we need a mix of the two, as at present we're averaging 1 goal a game, and that should keep us safe, but not finishing in the top half, which is where Critch and SS will want to be.
Our coaching team will be working on this and either the current squad will have to respond or reinforcements will be recruited in January.

We need a striker. We need an Ellis Simms type striker who is both quick and big. Hard to come by I know but we are crying out for that type of player. Oh and a creative midfielder!

Keshi is in great form at the moment and could be that creative midfielder, but he needs to improve some of his decision making in and around the box.Another one wouldn’t go a miss though.

Never mind the stats. From winning a few games in October to drawing a few in November then losing. Hoping December isn’t a slippery slope because this is when we need to be gathering momentum.
I get that but drawing a few games in November isn’t that bad when you look at the teams we’ve played,we’ll be fine

I think the problem must lie with our midfield: The defence is performing exceptionally well. The strikers get very few chances & appear to usually have to create them themselves. The midfielders selected to play, are not creating chances for the strikers or scoring goals themselves. However, as I don't watch us live every week, I can't say which player(s) are in need of improvement / replacement.
Agreed, all decent but lack creativity and goal threat.

I think it's more frustrating because of how absolutely and utterly dogshit Birmingham were. The worst side we've played this season by some margin.

The better team didn't win. That's football and that seems to be a theme in this league.

We are an honest genuine team giving 100% but we`re not very exciting or creative are we?

We've been hear before in some ways, with similar conversations last season. To my mind, we've performed best this season when the players have stepped on the gas and become a lot more positive in their actions. My first game of the season was Bournemouth away and the team that finished the game was a completely different beast to the one that finished it. The first 30 mins or so, we were reactive and stood off, it didn't serve us well and we were getting schooled. Getting on the front foot and taking the game to the opposition improved everything about us - including our defensive stability.

Of course, we won't always get it right this season and I'm still very happy with our current position and season to date. Like many others, I question the need to start at Birmingham without one of Yates or Lavery. It left us very short on goals and it sounds like it showed.

But the flip side of this is 27 points from 20 games. Keep something similar going for the rest of the season and the fact that we're not the most exciting or creative team won't really matter. The job will have been done for season 1 in the Championship.

Two things we all want as fans. The first and most important is wins. The second is goals and exciting attacking football.

my biggest bugbear with him. Good at beating a man but gets that easy pass wrong too often. But he's playing well at the moment.

We've also got to recognise some of the players, budgets and experience in the Championship we're up against. Exciting attacking football is great, but not if we're going to end up getting spanked against quality teams. Fulham striker Mitrovic, signed for 22 million, is a case in point, quality and goals cost money. We've got to be realistic about the quality be currently have and how we go about getting points this season.
Edit, 12 million on Harry Wilson too. And that's just one team we're competing against. 34 million on two players. Edit to add again, Tosin their centre half, signed form Man City for reputedly 8 million.

After 20 games last season we had 27 points. Disaster.

And notwithstanding the obvious increase in quality of the other teams we were also having similar conversations too. I'm not saying the end of season result will be the same of course, but it does show you that it really is all about the final results.

We're historically slow starters that develop some momentum into the second half of the season, becoming better and better.

Other teams think 6th is a playoff spot. We call it automatic promotion😉🤣🤣

All this talk about being slow starters is meaningless .Each season is different to the last with no great certainty of a repeat of the previous season`s pattern of results.
