3 women and a man of colour

Got to say, when it comes to diversity at the top table, the Conservatives really show the rest of the country how to move away from the pale, stale and male image of the past.

One day, the glass ceilings will be a thing of the past and they are leading by example.

What a bizarre post. What about them ** the economy? Or changing help for the vulnerable with heating costs from 2 years to 6 months?

And for the record, whilst it's great that we have a person of colour in the most senior position in the UK I really don't think you can attribute this to being a "Conservative" victory. The "Conservative" party didn't want him as PM only 7 weeks ago or had you conveniently forgotten??!!

To be fair Foreign Secretary James Cleverley has just been on and when put to him the matter of Sunak being of colour he dismissed it as being irrelevant considering the serious issues and work they have ahead.

Yes what a fantastic example, they had a fat scarecrow and the last leader was definitely on the spectrum.

The multi millionaire, privately educated PM living up to the stereotype of a Tory.

That's really unfair to fat scarecrows and people on the spectrum. Plain stupidity isn't a spectrum issue. And fat scarecrows have a use in the fields at least

Presumably, it won't be too long before some on the left start insinuating he isn't really a person of colour.

They don’t care too much about race, gender or sexuality. They just hate the poor….

Elitism has no colour, just an asset judgement

Well for a start Thatcher wasn’t a woman! But seriously what have they all got in common, quite simply they’re all Tories, and that’s all that matters to me.

James Cleverley stated the Tory party didn't care because they believe in meritocracy - do you agree that they have got where they are due to their merits?

And I can agree/disagree with policies (as I did quite clearly with the previous budget which was not only politically suicidal but economically incompetent) and still celebrate the success of a Hindu of Indian heritage becoming the Prime Minister of this country, following on from 2 women in the previous 3 Prime Minister's.

If it gives hope to other people of colour and women that they too can get to the highest office in the land - well that's a good thing to me.

As a matter of interest, given their educational background... which class do you consider Sir Kier and Mr Corbyn were born into?... or Ms Harmon... need I go on😉
Starmer was born into the Industrial working class. So were Neil Kinnock, James Callaghan, Ramsay MacDonald, Keir Hardie, Arthur Henderson, John Clynes and Margaret Beckett. Harold Wilson and Michael Foot were born into lower middle class families.

Oh and no, you don't need to go on.

Those in a cycle of poverty and despair can look to the stars but getting out of the gutter needs more than perseverance.

I just want the best people who make life better for the majority of the UK to be in charge of things. Couldn't care less about their race, gender or sexuality but I would never vote for a Preston fan!!

Obviously a good thing but we have to remember that we aren't the USA, race is a far bigger issue over there than it is here but we often seem to get sucked into their agenda politics.
Social class is the biggest issue here when it comes to advancement in politics not race or gender or sexuality. Look at the abuse Angela Rayner gets from the Tories if she does something that the Tories feel is exclusive to them.

Did you know Starmers family background before you posted that or did you just assume a different back story for him?

😁 I used the term “educational background”... and 😉....having a bit of fun with 1966.👍
Yes is the answer to your question.

To be fair, the vast majority of the party wanted him…. It all went tits up when the conservative members had a vote and Truss mentions tax cuts and they all voted for her! I imagine that’s why they steered clear of the member vote this time.

Ah OK. I read yesterday that David Cameron is a descendant of a mistress of one of the Hanoverian prince's, they were known for gluttony, fecklessness, arrogance, laziness and mental instability, not a great family background for a prime minister😉

I’ve a feeling we all might find a few dubious ancestors if we were to dig a little..😁

That seems like the job description for last few prime ministers to be fair?
The Conservative Party doesn’t deserve, and shouldn’t be allowed, the opportunity to calm the waters after the shitstorm they’ve caused, however, in the best interests of our country I sincerely hope they do.
Whenever the next GE comes, it would make a refreshing change to have a choice between competent Partys.

3 women and a man of colour – walk into a pub, the first woman sets fire to the bits of the pub she doesn’t like. The second woman wants to start another fire in the same place to be like the first woman, but it’s still burning so everything she does is a bit pointless, the third woman wants to do the same but it’s still burning so she sets everything on fire. The man of colour calls the fire-brigade allows them ten minutes so it looks like the fire’s gone out, and then he sets fire to the rest of the street

I hate to see you talking to yourself so I'll bite.
How does that tweet insinuate that Rishi isn't Asian?
BTW I'm not really into this wokery 'person of colour' stuff like you Lost, have you been reading the Guardian recently?

Don't be coy, you know exactly what she is trying to say.

You need to get up to speed with the latest Tufty Street missive.

If someone on the left uses the phrase “a person of colour” then they should be challenged as being racist. After all everyone is a colour of some sort.

According to Tufty Street that makes you a racist Lost.

Confusing isn’t it.

Just totted up Sunak's reshuffle appointments to date... 80% are men: 24 men and 6 women. Hardly leading by example.

I would agree with you that it's a good thing to have more diversity, in principle - assuming that those people chosen are suitable for the roles given to them...
However, I'm not sure what made you use the term "pale, stale and male" rather than "white, middle-aged men"...it just seems designed to insult. For what reason? Are "white, middle-aged men" a legitimate target for random abuse - simply for being that?
It seems to contradict the moral stance of those supporting inclusion and diversity. Let's just denigrate the skills and experience of another group of people without any evidence for doing so.
(Maybe, I'm just a bit sensitive, as "through no fault of my own", I'm a member of that group 😬 )
