3rd Test Eng v NZ

Anyone interested? 3-0 would be a tremendous result for Stokes and proof, if any was needed that Root was a complete waste of space as Captain.

No Anderson- same ankle problem and I really can't see him going much further. India the goodbye?

Anyway lets hope for a good 4/5 days of competitive cricket.

Bit unfair on arguably our greatest batter ever, it’s amazing what a new coach and captain can do for morale - let’s not forget how hard it must have been for these teams to isolate away from their families during COVID.

I don’t think Root was good enough but he was put in difficult circumstances

I believe the change in attitude that Brendan Mcullum has brought in is the big difference to the team. Same players just better attitude and given scope to play not forced to defend.

A bit like the Irishman now in the 50 overs version.
2 ducks against Holland is just embarrassing.
There is nothing embarrassing about captaining your team to an easy series whitewash albeit against poor opposition. The context of the match position is important in assessing form in limited overs cricket, neither ducks were pivotal in the game. Morgan is a great captain.

It is great to see the difference that the new regime has bought and today they have selected the correct Overton - the one that can bowl at 90mph. This match will be hard though and I wouldn't be surprised if NZ produce a lot of fight. Typical Headingly conditions suit both teams.

If you read my comments again I said his 2 ducks against a bunch of part timers was embarrassing not his Captaincy.

However that said i do think his days are numbered as Captain.

With all these new faces coming in and a new test match captain it’s on the cards Morgan’s days are numbered as like Root he doesn’t seem to be able to manage batting with being the Captain at the same time.

Got to be happy with this?
One more wicket and we are into the tail.
I’m stunned that Leech has 2 wickets

Very light drizzle passed over us for 5 minutes about 20 minutes ago. This will move on shortly.

Excellent morning and early afternoon session from England NZ all out for 329 Leach takes his first 5 wicket haul in England.

Now who was it that said Jack Leach offers nothing? 🤔🤣

He is really not very good against quality batsmen, one of the five was a complete fluke (and nothing to do with Leach's bowling) and two more were tail-enders slogging, whilst another one was Mitchell who is very good but by then was slogging.

17-3, Boult on fire.

Swinging like a 🍌 . Great bowling from the kiwis. Stokes count attack not quite good enough

As shite and misguided as we are here some of the TMS brigade are getting right up my nose with their comments. Vaughan and Aggers the usual suspects.

I think Stokes was out of control there to be fair. Just a little bit more restrained and it might have worked.

Why? They pointed out that when he played his great inns in 2019 he scored slow for quite a few overs before launching. In other words got himself in- here he was a headless chicken and the game really wasn't right for the approach he took once he had a couple of luck escapes.

Little bit of swing. Lees is the only ball that was virtually unplayable. Pope played around a fairly straight delivery and the less said about Crawley the better. Root got a decent ball from wide of the crease but again a poor shot. When the ball is doing a bit you dont try and drive the ball off the front foot - its basics really.

Stokes obviously lost the plot but has been given license to smack it around - easy to do at 300 for 3 but not such a good idea at 40 for 4. I guarantee under the same bowling conditions Haynes/Greenwich would still be there.

Bairstow won us the second test by crashing everything all over the ground to universal acclaim.

To criticise the approach is churlish at best. At least they're consistent.

Well for starters because I don't enjoy having to listen to their smug, supercilious prattling. Anyone can see that Stokes got it wildly wrong.

Bairstow is playing exactly the same innings and as it stands he’s going okay. Touch over aggressive but they’ve got the ball older now and the pitch isn’t doing much.

Let’s see how much longer these two go

It has to be our way of playing. As said above we normally collapse playing slow conservative cricket anyway, so let our one day experts play like they do in one day games. If they go cheap so be it….
The is Holloway cricket. Attack attack attack. Chances are every few games we will get 6 put past us but on the meantime we will batter teams playing this way
