400 people at London wedding reception

Despite a few on here blaming the government for the UK's high death rate, the real reason for the high mortality persists. The latest example is the wedding reception in Hackney with more than 400 guests. Similar stories can be seen all over the country. A barber shop in St Annes carrying on as normal, hotels in the Fylde taking in guests as usual. It doesn't matter what the PM or the scientists say. The pandemic will continue while this behaviour continues and these people remain unpunished. And I don't mean just an £800 fine.

Regardless of political bias, it's these sort of people who have caused the recent big increase in the Corona Virus
Totally agree that’s why an £800 fine is a joke.

Jail is the only answer not just for the organisers but everyone that attends these sort of things they all know their breaking lockdown rules so should be all punished as one.

Just listened to Tim Spector who runs the Zoe covid app. He says 35% of people with symptoms who want a test can't get one. Maybe some just decide to carry on as normal. Reports say only around 20% of people self isolate to the guidelines. That seems like a pretty big problem not being tackled. Fine them or support them to isolate effectively?

I don't know 400 people!

You can't legislate stupid - well you can, but you need to be in an autocratic state and we are a million miles away from being one.

It's not a black or white situation. People blatantly breaking the rules/the law need to be punished properly both as a clear deterrent and also out of respect for everyone else who is sacrificing things. And frankly, when I read the details of this wedding reception, it also didn't surprise me. But these are still isolated incidents that don't reflect the actions of most people and shouldn't be used as a deflection from the ragged, unfocused and chaotic approach the government has consistently employed during the pandemic. They've been utterly shit and no amount of headline grabbing stories can change that.

Just been on the bbc news.

Was a Jewish wedding from all accounts held at a Jewish girls school.

When Police arrived at 9:15pm last night many fled the scene, so far Police have issued 5 people with a fixed £200 penalty charge and an order to fine the organiser £10,000.

Should have ring fenced the whole school and took them all to prison.

Unaccpetable

The school is being paid as a coronavirus testing station. You can't make this stuff up. Orthodox Jewish girls school
I really dont get people at times and they will be the ones moaning about having to stay in lockdown longer than we have to ,FFS.

As an aside aren’t all religious gatherings an exception to the lockdown rules?

I’m not condoning this wedding by the way. Just making an observation.

I hope whoever sanctioned the use of the school is classed as an organiser and receives the same fine as the wedding organisers.
If, as Wiz says, the school get money for being used as a test centre, that should be stopped immediately.

Everyone knows by now that they shouldn't be doing this they should have all been made to isolate in the school for 14 days and then test negative before being let out to protect everyone else and then only let out after paying their fines

Apparently a security guard said it was more like 100. If there was a security guard there what the hell was he doing letting even that many in. Hope they throw the book at him too

They should throw the book at them. Preferably a Koran to really piss them off.

Yeah ** idiots like these that have helped keep my buisness closed for almost 12 months. Makes my blood boil. Jail the fuckers
Last weekend we saw a family trying to get in the Bedroomz hotel on south prom. They made a call and were let in with overnight bags. Nobody seemed interested when I tried to report it.

The Singapore and best way!
- finally, people are realising that without proper deterrent nothing will change.

You really can't understand how this type of stuff can even be happening

How the hell do you book a school that's being used as a vaccination centre for a wedding 😂

Apparently the school say when they leased it out, they didn't know it was going to be used for a wedding.
Which begs the questions -
(1) Why would a school be leased out (other than something official like Testing purposes) during a lockdown?
(b) Wouldn't you ask the question just in case it was dodgy?

There is no way that people at that school didn’t know what event was taking place.

9 police officers were issued with £200 fines in Greenwich after being caught eating sit down breakfasts......they’ve been doing it since the first lockdown.

Chunky... Just how big were the breakfasts... Since first lockdown.. They must have been huuuge... 😁

On Sky News, the report stated that 5 x £200 fines were issued, and the organiser MIGHT be fined £10,000. Trust me, if the £10,000 is not issued, they may as well hold their hands up and say, "The lockdown is over," because hardly anyone will comply.

Why would anyone need to rent a school for a household gathering? You'd think the person booking would question it.
