A few misjudged Appleton?

If he gets a decent result at Stoke then we may have a green light for the Appleton’s tangerine army chant...

I was underwhelmed with his appointment as it just wasn't exciting. Just meh.

We are flying in the league at the moment, if he can keep us in the playoffs until the end of the season then we will all be happy.

Not saying one way or the other as it’s way too early to make any sort of sensible judgment
But were not on about over a period of time yet, were on about him having great contacts and being trusted to have some of the best talent on loan.

On that side it wasn't much of a consideration of a plus point for many, when he was appointed. Add to that wanting to play a good style, coming across well and some other crap that wasn't actually true and it was a poor reaction to his appointment not looking at the facts.

When Appleton was appointed the EFL expert George Elek gave us some good insight of his strengths when interviewed by Sean McGinlay.
He said that 'the way he is perceived by Premier League managers is a massive strength of his'.
That has subsequently been shown to be spot on with Man City, Liverpool and now Arsenal all entrusting him with their best young players.

I must admit when he was first appointed I felt a bit let down. I could see a fair bit of sense in it though.
When I saw the line up last Saturday I thought the midfield would just get chewed up, but he got away with it. Progress.
His system if he can get the players that are right for it is not far away from Holloway’s. That went well.
Early days.

My view of Appleton as a Blackpool manager is based on his history. Ideally, he does really well and fecks off again or poorly and gets potted. Sooner the better. So a 'no' to the question.

I took a lot of flack off gloating Nobbers at the time he was appointed

They’re a little more circumspect at the moment and relying on lasher jokes and homophobia. Something tells me they’re worried. Very worried….. 👍

Sticking to stringent AVFTT guidelines, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

I was a bit meh when I found out who had replaced Quitchley and I'll give him 10 games before I comment on his tenure but I don't think he's done much wrong since taking the reigns.

Feels like a better deal for him at the moment. Getting the job of the guy who beat him to promotion at a point where he could have thought he was being left behind. It hit him hard after he lost the play off final. And obviously his health situation. I think I saw him linked with Salford and maybe Forest Green before this. So it was The Local One available for an immediate start with pre-season looming.

It has always been known that he prefers to work with younger players who he thinks will listen and learn from his instructions. And that he can work the loan market and use the knowledge and contacts he's built up from flitting between so many different types of jobs and environments previously.

But I doubt that would have been a sufficient USP that would have seen them go out of their way to push a little bit and to pay what it took to break a contract at another club, and to bring that here, if he was still in work and compensation was a factor.

What we'll need from him this year is to show how he can prepare for and react to championship opposition. Give us an edge. Because he'll pretty much have to get a lot out of a little at times. Are we able to go to a big-hitter in this league and compete for a result when we're maybe not at our best. Or do we get banjoed and he just does a shrug of the shoulders to deflect back onto his players and the situation. We'll see.

I met him in 2012, just after his appointment. Frankly he was an absolute ** when he spoke to me as was his assistant and I immediately hated him. Appalling arrogance from the pair of them. I was glad when he left and delighted when we beat his Lincoln side at Wembley last year. However….. 10 years is a long time, he freely admits he completely misjudged how bad Oyston was and when I spoke to him he was probably pissed off at having no heating in his office!!! When he was appointed this summer, I wasn’t at all happy, but I can’t argue with how he’s gone about his business so far, he seems a different person nowadays and I like the fact he doesn’t want the players to pass it backwards and sideways all the time. I actually have a funny feeling we’ll be more than fine with him in charge. If he cocks it up though…. He’s a dirty nobber !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Based purely on the last time he was here with that Westwood goon I had severe doubts about him losing the excellent team spirit. I was a little surprised at his appointment, but listening to the details about him NOW thought he must have impressed the panel who interviewed him. So I’ll judge him on how we fare in the next 10 games or so. Early positive signs on Saturday were clear to see for about half an hour & after that, is where the work needs to be done, be it a combination of too many similar midfielders & match fitness, I’ll be surprised if we go to Stoke without a defensive midfielder starting. Just like Connolly who has grown on me to a great extent, MA is starting to do the same & if it continues that’ll be fantastic & also mean the recruitment team have got it right.
