A holistic view of BFC’s 26 seasons in League 1, Division 2 (3) and Division 3

So here we are, 6 games into the 2020/21 season and there are some very differing views on the board in terms of how we've performed this season already after a very promising pre-season, and very differing expectations of what we should expect this year. So please forgive me if this has previously been done, but I’ve collated some very top level info/stats of BFC’s previous 26 seasons in the old Division 3, Division 2 (3) and the current League 1 format. I’ve only done these divisions to keep it apples with apples so apologies for not covering the successful years of us getting promoted from the bottom leagues. So, of the 26 seasons since our relegation from the old Second Division in 1978 (I remember it sadly too well), we have had one promotion under Simon Grayson, one failed play-off under Sam Allardyce and sadly four relegations. It’s noticeable how very few seasons we’ve ended up in the top 10, and how few strikers have really stood out in this league for us. Anyway, it’s there to peruse and remind us of how this is such a tough league to get out of, and reminded me to calm a bit after posting some negative stuff on here last week ......😁

Interesting reading, but I dont really get your point as the vast majority of those seasons were under the Oystons stewardship?

That said, I agree that we need to be more patient.

Well done Hetzke.

There seems to be a general assumption on here that if Oyston is no longer in charge, then we are guaranteed to do better. So far, that's not transpired on the pitch and nothing is ever guaranteed in football. What we do seem to have now is a longer term strategy. Time will tell if that translates into more success than we had before at this level but one thing is for sure, a longer term plan requires longer patience.

Interesting, since the late 70s we have been been at the 3rd level for the majority of that time, and our average place in that division is 12/13th. That’s quite depressing our level for the past 40 years has been mid table in the 3rd tier. Onwards & upwards.

From that I take this. From 2001 through to 2010, the only seasons we were in the top half of the division we were promoted. Get in the top half and we'll go up🤣

Jeez, thought I had a brainfreeze then. I thought who the fcuk is Mello, I don't remember him. It's Mellor.

Certainly not guaranteed BHOK, but given greater resources and desire its fair to assume we should be able to do better, but yes its not going to happen overnight,
