A place which should have a FL team?

Anywhere in England you’re surprised doesn’t have a Football League club? Amazed that Devon and Cornwall don’t have one club between them that is knocking on the EFL door. Be a brilliant away day.

Plymouth was in Devon last time I checked.

I think Plymouth is in Cornwall. Exeter in Devon
Nope, Plymouth is in Devon on the eastern side of the Tamar which forms the county boundary. Some of the suburbs & dormitory towns across the bridge such as Saltash may be in Cornwall but they don't count as part of Plymouth. that would be like saying St Annes, Cleveleys or Poulton was in Blackpool or that Penwortham, Lostock Hall or Bamber Bridge was in Preston

For such a large area, I'm surprised that Carlisle was, until recently, the only FL club in Cumbria.
Barrow have joined them, but Penrith, Keswick, Kendal, Workington, Whitehaven never seem to have made it.

and as is Torquay.
I guess Torquay United are knocking on the EFLs door.

Only done Plymouth away out of all them, brilliant away day. We won 0-3 or 1-3 as well. Must have been 2002 or 2003.

I can’t believe Lancaster have such a lowly team tbh. That would be a great away day.

York.

Mental really that Morecambe have a football club in the league but Lancaster aren't even remotely close to having one. York vs Lancaster would be an interesting fixture if both cities had football league clubs, I think you could guess what they'd label it..

York City were in the EFL until 2004, in Division 2 in the 70s. Back again in 2012, out again 2016.

Just had a look at this. Wakefield is the largest (334,000) followed by Dudley (310,000) without a league team.

Both good shouts.

Dudley Town were formed in 1888 and lie in the tenth level (step 6) - the same level as AFC Blackpool. They had a nice ground in Dudley town centre until part of the honeycomb of limestone workings that riddle the town gave way and swallowed part of it. They now play in Willenhall, Walsall.

Always surprised me that somewhere like Gloucester hasn’t yet Cheltenham have. Anyway just be thankful none of those north east mining towns turned pro.

Another one for Warwick.

I spent the first 23 years of my life in Warwick District. As a kid I used to watch Lockheed Leamington who were then in the Midland League. Leamington FC are now in the same league as AFC Fylde.

It has a population of over 142,000, but being just 10 miles from Coventry, 20 Miles from Birmingham, and just a bit more to West Brom and Wolves, they always attracted most of the football supporters in the area.

Traditional alliances die hard.
