A View From The Opposition (Blog)

I thought it was fair too. It's strange how they have hit the ground running with a new team.

Today is going to be like Gene Kelly's singing in the rain and fitness will be a key factor. Let's hope ours is better than theirs.

Agreed - I wonder if at some point Crtich will consider sacrificing either Ward or Anderson and go “double pivot” with Williams alongside Robson for protection?
With our fullbacks effectively wingers we will always be light at the back which doesn’t matter if we score first and the opposition doesn’t get the ball back off our possession heavy team.

Like he says in the blog, their team isn't as new as ours, it has some foundations that were put in place in January and they are a bit ahead of us. They have some key combinations in their side that have got to know each other. He also highlights that we have a fair few players who were in L2 last season, adjusting, but expects us to be among the top teams later in the season.

It’s not just the turnover of players here but also the complete change of tactics and playing style which is alien to a lot of players at this level. I think a lot of our fans have completely forgot that.
Lincoln are a good team, Appleton is a good manager and he’s clearly smart enough to learn from his mistakes - hence why he jumped ship here - so we’re in for a difficult day today.
I’m hoping at the very least we play 90 minutes of football today - if we do that, play our game and still lose then I don’t really mind. We’re still going to make mistakes and we’re obviously not the finished article but there’s no excuses for not showing up for the first 15 minutes again.

"We weren’t quite as much of a blank canvas, but Blackpool might be."

Totally agree with that line - why we have let ourselves down at the back because in the early stages of a season with a new side you should be grinding out a few draws rather than the defeats we've endured so far.

Lincoln are a good side and have a decent manager in Appleton, their early form doesn't surprise me too much. That said it is another good yard stick to measure our new team. Hopefully we will cope with the conditions and put in another good performance at home, a win today would represent a fair start to the season and give us something to build on after the international break.

That assessment is on the money if you ask me👍
If and when we do gel it could happen quickly or even not at all. Whichever way it goes is going to predict how good a team we are and impact games like today massively, for better or worse.

I think an honest assessment from outside can sometimes give us a better perspective as to where we are at.
Instant gratification was never going to be a realistic option with a whole new set of values, a new manager and a new young squad.
I think the general consensus is that we have recruited well so far and we should probably be looking forward to watching how things develop.

Fair assessment which has clearly involved a lot of thought. I believe we will win tomorrow but if that does not happen there is no need to panic.

A really good preview from the opposition there. Funny how MA has come good after an awful few weeks of hoofball with us. We will have be on our mettle to get the points this afternoon.
