Any one on here had an operation for tennis elbow?
Been taking loads of pain killers paracetamol and napofram (not doing a lot of good tbh)
Back for check on Friday, will hopefully be calmer by then.
How long did your recovery take?
Been told 4-6 weeks but can't see that at the moment.
Plus taking ages to type😁👍🏻

Had a cortisone injection few years back, obviously hasn't worked.
Had a choice of op in Blackpool or course of platelet injections over a few months but had to go to Barrow for those.
Wonder if I've made the right decision

Not had it but heard about resting it.
It’s often caused by repetitive actions, so have you identified the cause of your injury? And try to avoid it in future…

Hi, I presume you mean Naproxen? If so you need to make sure you take them with food or a glass of milk because they can cause digestive issues (I’m presuming you’ve been prescribed a ppi like lansoprazole too. Even though they might not help alleviate the pain they have an anti-inflammatory effect so will help with the inflammation. You should take them at the same time as the paracetamol. A tens machine might help if you wanted to look into it. Also a good quality supplement of omega 3 tablets to help support the recovery of the muscle. Regular heat (you can buy heat pads or just a hot water bottle would do, alternating with an ice pad (you can buy these too.) Finally, make sure you do any strengthening exercises they may give you for the elbow and shoulder. Recovery varies from person to person… Hope you might find some of this helpful and I wish you a speedy recovery! 😬

What did the op entail as Ive suffered from Tennis Elbow for years, and whatever I try, the only way of relieving the pain is to rest, of which you can only do so much?
Note - Ive tried Acupuncture, done all the exercises, Pain relief cream / tablets. Cortisone was my next option

Cortisone masks doesn't cure the problem.
My op had the Doc open the elbow, shave away the damaged ligaments then drill into the bone to allow it to bleed out onto the area to speed up the healing process!🤣
45 minutes it took.
I'll post an update this Friday 👍🏻

Nightmare Wizz. I got it from chiselling mortar off a few hundred bricks.
I could lift a bag of sand no problem but if hurt holding a brew. Weird.
Had a cortisone which worked eventually but took months.

Good luck mate 👍

100% keep it moving.
Download the physio exercises for it - you’ll need a tension band which you can buy on internet too.

From day 1 do the exercises and do them as often as you can tolerate.

Docs used to always tell you to rest it. However sport science now shows that barring a bone break, keep the ligaments and muscles moving and the repair will happen quicker.

Just a word of warning - it will hurt when you’re doing it but you won’t be damaging it

Years of heavy work took its toll on all of my joints including elbows. The left one in particular. Went down the cortisone jab route quite regularly to keep me working. But in the end the jabs became non effective. Then into the hands of the surgeon for what is known as a tendon division procedure back in 2005.

Was off work for awhile and was unable to go back to previous heavy work mode but was relocated to lighter duties. Retired some years ago and it still can be problematic but I turned down any further invasive surgery which was offered. And the surgeon also offered coincidentally the platelet injections you mentioned wizzerboy. I didn't fancy that so have continued with anti inflammatories like celecoxib if it gives me gyp.

My best wishes to you in the battle. The younger you are I would say there is a higher chance of a better recovery. But everyone's different. I was in my late forties when it came on strong.

I'm 58!!😁

I had a cortisone injection on a frozen shoulder - that worked a treat.
I had the same for tennis elbow, it didn't work 1st time but the repeat injection did.
Wife had one for tennis elbow & it worked 1st time.
Chunks right about exercising the joint (for both tennis elbow & frozen shoulder).
An operation is absolutely the very final option, as they all carry a risk, and it may not work.

Wife had surgery 27 years ago never worked still has problems

Cortisone is weird. I've had regular injections in my shoulder and knee for the last few years. Sometimes nothing much happens, other times it's like a miracle cure.

One week on, had stitches out but have to keep ROM brace on for two more weeks 😕
Doc says I've healed really well but still no news on physio 🤷‍♂️
No pain killers today though 👍🏻
