After two friendly’s, who can name their 1st 11

i have just watched the second half of the game and I’ve come to the conclusion that Cameron Antwi is a fantastic young player, I would have no problems putting him straight in to the first team for the start of the season. Young Nathan Shaw is also an extremely exciting prospect. Let’s hope these two lads get a fair crack of the whip.

Maxwell
Turton(in) Nottingham. Thorniley. Shaw(in)
Adam
Grant (in), Antwi
Anderson
Sarkic. Yates.

A few adjustments to cater for the performances after three games. This team wins the league.

Apologies to Howe, Husband and Kaikai

I see your sticking with Charlie 😜

Thought that was good side but you are leaving out Antwi Shaw Sarkic Ward and Nottingham who have done their potential selection no harm at all so far
We will have a better bench than most
I think it will be either Madine or Nuttall as option up front off the bench
True. Like I said right wing and centre back is up for grabs so ward, sarkic and Nottingham will all get a lot of minutes. They’re all very versatile too which will help both our cause and their playtime. Antwi & Shaw have done really well too, I think they’ll stay with the squad due to all the homegrown, youth player quotas - they should get a lot of minutes, also both quite versatile.

As it stands;

Yates
KaiKai - Anderson - Ward
Virtue - Antwi
McDonald - Thorniley - Ekpiteta - Turton
Maxwell

I’d expect Robson to replace Antwi, although I haven’t seen enough of him to judge.

Ward has impressed me too, as I had Sarkic in that RAM position last week. Also, Hamilton brought on against tiring legs in the 60th could be lethal.

Another centre back, maybe a back up midfielder through the door and we’re in for a very strong season.

Critchley is going to play 433 so I wouldn't bother naming teams that are 352, 4132 etc etc. There is a reason he's bought the players he has. They are interchangeable.
I'm seriously not convinced we need any more midfielders after the Everton guy joins.
I think we probably do need another Centre half though.

Both starters, I agree, very very reliable both of them

Totally agree

In my opinion Madine is strong, aggressive and skilful. He creates mayhem and fear in opposition defenders by directly running at them. He is able to keep hold of the ball and bring others into the game. This opens up play and with a clever pass he creates chances for others . He will score goals although I doubt he will be prolific. He wears the shirt with pride and never gives up. I think he is at his best playing with another forward and I am not certain how he will fit in with Critchleys plans. I believe he will be useful in the coming season.
I enjoyed yesterdays game and there was positive contributions. Maxwell is a decent keeper, Nottingham and Thorniley looked decent at centre half and Antwi looks a fine prospect. Critchley clearly wants us to be a passing team and that should be the way forward. Looking forward with optimism to coming season.

Following on from the friendlies my team would now be
Maxwell

New player centre mid prob loan

CJ Hamilton
Anderson
Yates

Agree, although I think we may need to be patient and not expect to be in the top 2, I reckon a good season will be playoffs, fingers crossed a successful one, we have promise but thats all, it takes time to gel, if things are not going well I'm not certain our style will be effective, we should then look to go direct with Madine and hopefully our plan b works

Baffles me how some people are putting kaikai on the bench! Our best player if he can stay fit.

How has Thorniley looked to everyone? I watched the Vale game the other night (after a few beers) and thought he looked awful, particularly on the ball. But we're short of options - I'm not sure Critchley's got his men yet at the back. I don't think Husband fits in a 4-3-3 with attacking full backs, likewise Turton.

I'll have a stab at an XI

Maxwell
Howe Ekpiteta Thorniley Macdonald
Virtue Robson
Anderson
Sarkic Yates Kaikai

Antwi and Shaw both have a case for a starting place.

I can see us struggling badly in those night games at Gillingham and the like when we're not quite at it unless we get some more steel in midfield and at the back. Madine might also have a place for certain games. I know we're gonna play nice stuff but it's League One and we'll have to be built to compete as well, much as Liverpool are as our model.

Some good points there. I'd just dispute the inclusion of Howe, who looks quite a way off to me. Have you seen him? I don't think Thornily and the other defenders have been tested yet, we should find out more in the next couple of games. Thornily just strolled about against barrow, did hit some diagonals, but he was under zero pressure, it was all pretty leisurely at the back.

I would like to see Nottingham and Husband given a go at full backs before deciding. Would give us more height/presence and I think we would be a lot more solid at the back. Just not sure if they would offer enough going fwd. Nottingham is quick and a lot better on the ball than most his size.

People are saying we are 433 but we are really 451 and 343. Watch the 3 games we have played. We go 451 and work hard to win the ball. When we win we slow it down often (pass at the back). When we have it the defensive centre mid drops (always been Antwi or Robson so far), and the 2 CBs go either side. The 2 full backs immediately get into wide attacking midfield position.
Last game when we had procession
Nottingham Antwi Thornily
Howe Ward Sarkic Shaw
CJ Madine Kaikai

More chance of me starting than Howe....
He looks way off the pace

no place for Feeney? Antwi won't start either. I expect at least another CB and CM before season starts. Hopefully a striker too!

Ah crap totally forgot about Feeney, must have had this team sheet mentally prepared from when it looked like he was leaving. Well he still might be. Anyway, on the bench instead of Nuttall.

That's how a 433 tends to work

So a 433 never has us lining up as 433 ? Ok then ?

LA, I expect he’s trying to say the formation is 433 but is very fluid depending on whether we’re defending or attacking.

The only time we’re 433 from what I’ve seen in the last three friendlies is when the ball is in the middle of the pitch and we’re pressing to gain possession.

We shouldn t just be looking at the 1st eleven the squad as a whole needs consideration NC will play
different teams and formations dependent upon whom we are playing. The club would benefit from having
a proper development squad aswell.

Under Holloway Vaughan dropped in and the full backs pushed forward. For Liverpool, Fabinho drops in and the full backs push forward. For Barcelona Busquets drops in and the full backs push forward. It's still 433

Personally, unless we get another central defender in (and be tough to know which one to replace) I'd say yesterday's starting line up is your first XI for Plymouth.

Side number three!

Maxwell
Turton Nottingham Opoku Trialist
Ward Adam Hamilton
Anderson Yates Kai Kai

championies....championes....etc etc
