Another light hearted thread to keep the brainbox ticking over. I'll start.

Aeropuerto de Santander - Seve Ballesteros

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart airport Salzburg.

Flew there for a pre season tour that was cancelled. From Stan Stead, as it happens 🤣

Charles Kingsford Smith - Sydney

Named after the Aussie aviator who made the first transpacific flight from the USA to Australia in 1928. He died at only 35 years crashing into the sea off Burma.

Also the first destination airport I flew to around 50 years ago.

Pearson (Lester B Pearson) Toronto.

McCarran Las Vegas.

Marco Polo Venice.

Leonardo da Vinci Rome.

I'm sure that, very soon, there'll be a 'Putin International Airport' in Russia.
Also maybe, a Kim Jong Un in N. Korea. 😉

I flew into Roland Garros airport on Réunion last summer. Always associated him with tennis but the French Open venue is actually named after a famous WWI aviator who came from the Indian Ocean island belonging to France.

Grantley Adams airport-Barbados. Can't believe I was there a couple of months ago. Seems like a lifetime ago in a different world.

Richard Pearse, Timaru, New Zealand. Very early pioneer aviator. Claims were made that he flew a heavier than air machine nine months before the Wright Brothers. This is disputed as Pearse himself claimes he flew in 1904.

There was some talk a few years back about renaming Prestwick airport to something like Glasgow Elvis Presley.

It is the only place in UK that Elvis set foot. There is actually a plaque in the terminal to record the momentous event.

Lots of dead presidents, various sportsmen and entertainers.

One of the greatest sportsman of all time has an airport named after him.

Louisville Muhammed Ali International Airport 🥊

Hartsfield - Jackson Atlanta International Airport

Named after a couple of former mayor's of Atlanta. Jackson was in fact the city's first black mayor. In fact the first black city mayor anywhere in the South.

It is the busiest airport in the world with over 110 million passengers a year.
