Am I expecting too much?

I found myself being disappointed by our performance tonight, I loved the result but the performance left me a little flat.

Having followed the Pool, home and away, for over 40 years, I've learned to expect the unexpected but our rebirth after the Stains has left me over expectant and I see it's had the same effect on others!

Reading some of the messages on the forum tonight has made me realise this and I thank those posters for bringing me back down to earth. We have no right to be better than any other team and the fact that we're still in with a chance of promotion after the last few years is something to celebrate, even if we don't make it!

We're back, we're in the mix and most importantly, we're the Pool and no matter what, we're the best fans in the land! UTMP 🧡

It's football. Some games are ace, some are a mix, some are turgid. It is what it is. That's football innit.

We've done a job tonight. Think about us at the beginning of the year. We looked flimsy, naive, pretty but not very effective. We've ground out games recently and got points even though we're really not clicking in some ways.

IT's fine people saying 'oh, but we should be better' - but we've tried to be attractive and play a 'purer' game and that left us bottom of the league. It's not always a pretty watch, but it's a damn sight better than the philosophy over practical reality we saw in the early part of it, which might have been attractive but did my head in as it bore no relation to what you need to do in this league. It was football for a different division or different players.

I'll credit Critch with getting much more streetwise, getting his head round the division and showing he isn't just a coach who coaches from his own playbook. He doesn't get everything right, but he's getting results and he's adapting stuff to suit situations.

Think his own interview was decent tonight. I was a bit critical of him last match, but acknowledged we're clinging on too often (or not in some games) and sort of intimated it wasn't a great watch and that we need more attacking intent/decisiveness etc but that's now to be built on something we didn't have, which is a really solid back line.

Must say I had a load of work to do last night and it failed to grab my attention enough to put me off completing the work. I think it was a combination of a poor pitch, a subdued atmosphere (some stadiums really don't lend themselves to no crowds - at least at BR it never feels like a morgue) and in some ways the two managers tactics nulled the game.

I wouldn't say we were awesome but as you say after 35 mins we controlled the game. The defence lead by Husband and Ballard were outstanding. Yates worked tirelessly up front and Stewart was again the go to man in midfield. A thoroughly professional though unspectacular away win.

I was frustrated last night again with the substitutes, bringing on cj and Mitchell to me were wrong, straight away we were under pressure, we needed someone more solid instead of people going missing, but then we won, so what do I know

I thought the subs were set up to catch them on the break and with CJ having a one on one with the keeper it worked well.

You think? Having one half chance.
Straight away they were going forward and on another day could have have a couple, as much as cj and Mitchell attack they don’t track back and get tackles in like others in the team would.
Anyway another 3 points, end of March we will know where we’ll be
