Another big game tonight

Quite enjoying this Saturday, Tuesday thing on I Follow now

Granted nothing beats being at a game but I've probably watched more of Blackpool this season than i ever have

Anyway

On to tonight another tough game against a decent side, but they have lost their best player to the Championship so they probably aren't quite at the level they were

I hope Critchley doesn't mess about with the team too much and we really have a go at them, I don't mind losing as much if we at least try to win

Bristol Rovers is an example of a game we should have won and played well in, creating loads of chances and on other day could have won by 4 or 5. Ipswich and Shrewsbury away the polar opposite were we got it wrong tactically and never looked like winning

I think we were a bit naive when we lost to them last time, should have probably matched them up in midfield after half time when they were getting on top

However

We are a different side now though and we have a stronger squad than we had thanks to Sadler and his financial clout

Stewart is a proven Championship midfielder not many teams in our league would have been able to sign him and we are lucky to have an owner who has backed Critchley to the hilt. We really are in a unique situation as Blackpool fans having such a good owner

I would say we are in the top 3 or 4 clubs in the league now in terms of strength of squad and financial clout

Another 3 points tonight please and lets continue this decent run, nows the time to kick on with games coming so thick and fast

Nothing to fear in this league

Can’t disagree with that. 👍 now I recognise you I drove past the old CO-OP club the other day & some bugger has built a house directly where we used to play snooker 😬

From what I've seen of Doncaster recently they've struggled a bit with crosses into the box and haven't settled on a goalkeeper that works for them. Their number 10 options are better than anything we can put out against them though if we match systems, and they're more comfortable at moving the ball around and out wide than we are, lot better tempo to them. Prob 12-18 months ahead of us on playing style.

Doesn't seem to play many full 90s but Taylor Richards is becoming one of the most consistent in his position in lge1 for me. One to look at in the summer when his loan is up. On the books of one of our favourite agents too.

Feeling like we'll go 4-2-3-1 with Embleton in behind Yates and Kaikai/Virtue out wide again.

Hopefully lightning doesn't strike twice and we avoid Bogle v Husband II. But it's leathering it down and windy all day now so fully expecting a 6.58pm call off.

Simon Sadler did say when he was first interviewed that he would provide a top ten budget topped in his own words only by Pompey and Sunderland.

Even with Critchy, The Tinkerman, I can't see too many changes tonight, injuries permitting.
I know we don't always get the truth about who's fit but we are told Madine won't be ready but CJ might be a secret weapon and he might just get a place on the bench.
The only change I might consider is playing Mitchell on the right in place of Ward who I don't particularly rate as a winger.
Being really brave would be to put Ward into CM probably at the expense of Stewart but that does of course lose the solidity.

Everyone is different but I’ve not seen so few matches in a season in my life!!! Really can’t get into it .

As long as we score more than we let in I'm not too concerned about the amount of goals scored.
Assuming the same players are available as Saturday I would keep the same back four, go with Stewart and Dougall again, play Mitchell wide left and Embleton wide right with Kaikai playing just behind Yates.
If we feel the need to go to a regular 4 4 2 easily done by bringing Simms on.

I really think Critch has learned his lesson after the Ipswich display....That 442 is what this group of players is most comfortable at and has brought us the most wins so far this season....knowing he can still mix it up during the course of a game by bringing in Mitchell...Embleton ( who both slotted in well on saturday) Virture and possibly CJ....I think it will be a tough game because we know Donny will fight for the whole 90 mins...but if we can carry on with the one game at a time mentality...I think we can prevail as the players looked like they were buzzin when they came off the pitch at Portsmouth.

Yep thats what i would do

Ive got no idea why folk want Mitchell on the right

Crazy stuff

Sure we will play 2 up front and don’t mind if Virtue plays, but please do not put him out wide😡 Mitchell out wide why not. Need to take some of our early chances for once😋

Seems that every winger now has to play on his opposite side, all well and good if you are Sterling and Mahrez, or even Ince and Phillip's! But we have Mitchell and Embleton so let's just see them put a decent cross in with their best foot, or attack the back post area when the other one crosses it.

Why not? Inverted Wingers.

CJ is left footed and plays on the right. Mitchell is quick, direct and is a good outlet.

Out of curiosity, why do you think it's "crazy stuff"?
Because really he is an attacking left back

Could you imagine Liverpool playing Andy Robertson as a right winger ?

Crazy

Also Phil......
Correct i said this on the podcast last night

The front 3 dont swap over, the whole idea of inverted wingers is so they can cut in from one side and then have the ability to cross the ball with their stronger foot when they switch sides

Playing Madine means he needs crosses less so if Yates was the centre forward as he would also be more mobile to position changes

Liverpool swap Salah and Mane all the time

Salah is all left foot

For the same reason CJ played so well on the right.
Hamilton can play either side as he has goals in him, he could probably play down the middle as well off Madine.
Not convinced that Mitchell or Embleton are natural finishers so better to have them whipping early balls in with their best foot.

i would play the following team tonight.

Maxwell
Gabriel, Ballard, Husband, Garbutt
Ward, Stewart, Dougal, Mitchell
Yates & KaiKai

subs
Sims
Turton
Thornilly
Embeldon
Virtue
Simms
CJ if fit, Bez if not.

that is a strong team with plenty of options off the bench.

Salah and Mane are up top players. Mitchell is a LB (a poor one).
Mitchell is not a Left Back.

We tired him there once. We never made that mistake again.

What is an “attacking left back” anyway, a euphemism for a left winger I presume.

So we had a speedy left footed winger who would beat his man for pace but not generally with dribbling skills.
We have a manager who plays inverted wingers.
We have another speedy left footed player who also has a shot in him who is fit.
I guess that's why I speculated on Mitchell getting a shout which in fact I think he did for one of the recently postponed games (Burton?)

No an attacking left back is errrr an attacking left back

Think Robertson, Chilwell, Mendy, Bertrand, etc

Or even Ashley Cole, Wayne Bridge or a Roberto Carlos

You wouldn't play them on the right of midfield would you?

How can people create such a strong opinions from one camera in the stand ??? I think 2020/21 is as significant as 1996 and will create a new breed of fans for the worse☹️

I'm all for Mitchell starting but he isn't like for like with Hamilton which is why I would start Mitchell on the left. What Critchley will do is anybody's guess, interesting 🤔

How can people formulate a valid opinion on the game when they have drunk 9 double vodka and red bulls!!🤪

He was brought in as a LB. Inverted wingers are exactly that, wingers. Not Diagonal reversed FB's. Gabrial is the same really and you'd never dream of playing him LW.

All this debate points to the main team problem and the main reason why we score so few- we simply don't know who, how, where to play the front 4 in the team.

Its odd really because I wouldn't play Gabriel as a LW because I don't think he's technical enough.
I do however think Mitchell can play as a winger on his "wrong" side.
I have thought in the past about Turton and Gabriel as RB/RW and Hubby/Garbutt LB/LW.
We have right footed Sully starting to pick up form on the left but in CJ's absence we haven't had anyone play particulary play well down the right-hand side. The stats show we focus much of our play on the left.
So for that reason I'd give Demi a go tonight and hopefully CJ will be back very soon.

Mitchell's already been sent on to play off the right wing a couple of times already that I know of, as well as on the left and started off at left back as cover, up to Wimbledon away. Think the only thing he hasn't done yet is have a hamstring injury like Anderson, Ekpiteta, Garbutt, Gretarsson, Hamilton and Husband.

Inverted wingers who don't actually do any inverting.

I agree he was probably brought in as a LB but he’s never been played there since Gillingham. I think it’s a stretch to say he’s still considered a defender.

The times we’ve seen him at his best was on the wing including the really encouraging cameo last Saturday.

Who did they lose to the Championship?

Simms needs to up his workmate from what i've seen, but he is a goalscorer i do believe and a big unit, he needs to be more physical in this division, that will come with time, but do you select him and give him the experience he needs in these type of matches.

Yeah probably the best centre mid in the league last couple of seasons along with Cameron Brannagan
Grayson has us double marking in the away game last season to close the space and stop him and Kieran Sadlier from shooting from outside the box. Decent box to box midfielder but hopefully the nobbers ruin his confidence.
