Another national lockdown?

Chris Whitty allegedly advocating another 2 weeks lockdown.

To be honest I don’t think this would work and the country certainly cannot afford it. If we hibernate for 2 weeks then cases will drop but will inevitably rise again when the restrictions are lifted.

Is it time to bite the bullet and get on with society?

That’s since been refuted and the ex bloke from the WHO who broke the story has admitted he was wrong.

From my perspective it's clear this isn't going away until we get a vaccine. Unless every person on earth self isolated for a month ish then the virus will still be present. This simply isn't possible/ actionable (I hate that word btw!)

The result is the economy is on its arse and needs to recover but we want to limit the spread of the virus as much as possible to save as many lives as possible. The only solution I can see that fits this bill is carrying on as we are now... being careful. And local lockdowns when the virus spikes in areas.

This all of course has the be carried out by the general public... who are even more useless and irresponsible than any government ever will be...

You’ll find it isn’t. I’ve been consistent in saying the public should adhere to guidelines and not flout the rules to suit their own agenda.

I’ve also advocated caution and asking for us all to be careful, something I continue to do.

If the above had been done perhaps we would be in a better position than we are now.

But by adhering to the guidelines that means you supported the lockdown!!! You yourself, did what was asked of you.

And now your coming up with "just get on with it! scenario.

You are just an idiot, it’s impossible to have a coherent conversation with a moron.

So more abuse!

What I said is accurate. You were a strong supporter of the lockdown and it's rules and now you are suggesting just getting on with it. Change your mind by all means but be prepared to acknowledge that's what you are doing.

It’s not abuse you fool, just quoting fact. Now go away and leave this conversation to the grownups.

It's a fact that you don't know the difference between fact and opinion.
Just think a couple of days ago your views now and you'd have been taking that guys photographs for him outside the Pleasure Beach.

I wonder if the Admins would do me a favour......
Would it be possible for you to add a little star or a 👺 to any thread on the menu.......Where 20's is having one of his arguments....?

Last few threads I've been on have basically consisted of 20's having a spat about something someone said on another thread....and then ending it by saying....."you keep responding to me".......

Maybe you could add a 🤡 once it's over.............Thanks 👍

#Cruzzer, you should know by now that 20's keeps a spreadsheet on every poster and can relay something any poster has said on this forum.

All I did b side was point out that Cruzzer has changed his stance. Looking at his abusive responses that seems to have angered him.

And Jeez Herts, you even got me in trouble for simply replying to a request of yours. Mac became a hitman last night with me firmly in his sight. 😀 Life's never dull on AVFTT.

Has he had a sex change since then?

No idea, as far as I know he was a MR and called Anthony....

Anthony Costello, a former director of maternal, child and adolescent health at the WHO, had claimed Professor Whitty was recommending the two-week lockdown.

He posted on Twitter on Wednesday night: "I'm hearing from a well-connected person that government now thinks, in absence of testing, there are 38,000 infections per day. Chris Whitty is advising PM for a two week national lockdown."

Mr Argar dismissed the claim, and Mr Costello himself also cast doubt on the suggestion in a follow-up tweet on Thursday morning.

He tweeted: "I've been told by another insider I respect that Chris Whitty does not support a 2 week lockdown, so I'm pleased to correct the record."

Mr Argar said: "We are guided by the science but we're not necessarily guided by the speculation in the press. It's not something I've heard from Chris. And it's something the prime minister clearly doesn't want to see."

My wife is the Manager of a 30 bed local Government (Council) run unit... They have only 12 service users in at the moment as the NHS has reserved and payed for 18 rooms which must be kept empty..... They must be expecting something.

Preparing the worse case scenario come flu season, I'd have thought.

On a national lockdown, I can't see that at all. It will be local, but I wish they'd do it properly and not piss around.

Fc... The rooms are for discharges from hospital... In March/April the unit was covid free.. Then hospital discharged infected people into the unit... 6 people died.
I really hope the tests are done properly in hospital this time and not shoved out because they need the hospital bed.

A 2nd lockdown is on it's way........Positive C-19 tests in Preston just hit a new high (see the LEP)
New testing rules moving away from the general public and towards key workers indicate a need to keep them safe.

The one thing that alarmed me was a comment that said "There is a chance for Covid to adapt and potentially take on more identifying characteristics of the flu virus".......so Covid becomes more virulent and easier to spread......and has a 'flu' like potency.......

And as X amount of people die each winter just from flu.....add the complications of C-19 and suddenly you have something even bigger.

Just to add.. the council are also advertising positions for collating and all other aspects relating to covid on a fixed term contract until 2023... Grim.

Yea all staff are tested every 7 days and service users a minimum of every 28 days.

It will mutate pretty much all virus do so. I was hoping in would mutate into a less severe strain.
I thought it was already as easy if not easier to catch than the flu?

The help out to eat out was such a marvellous idea.......
No wonder its speading like wildfire opening pubs and restaurants was a poorly thought out idea driven by the £

The mobile testing units run by the Government have been told that positions are now available up until November 2021.......

Sadly with cases now rising rapidly it does look like we are going to have to either have a second full lockdown or go for survival of the fittest. All this is down to the millennial and student generation who have ignored all advice and continued to party and gather in large crowds. I have even heard their like being interviewed on the radio and when questioned about social distancing etc to protect the elderly their response is why should we it is the older generations that have stole our future so why should we protect them. Thankfully it is the younger generations who are losing their jobs, which is karma for their outright selfish attitude towards the virus and with a second lockdown there are more than likely going to be even more job loses for them. Sadly a lot of good businesses are going to suffer as well and like i already said its all down to the selfish know it all younger generations.

Do you really rejoice in younger people losing their jobs? Crikey that's a bit much.

Nah. We’ve discussed this many times on avftt and have concluded it’s the old farts who are to blame.

I think we will have another lockdown at some stage, as in across the country rather than hotspots, but watching the news this evening you do have to wonder when you see Sweeden's cases which have been consistently low with no peaks and they haven't locked down anything and no compulsory mask wearing, in fact they state the aren't required at all. Go figure?
