Anyone broken any Covid rules?

Had my hair cut by my hairdresser in his back garden on Saturday. Not sure what rules we broke but feck it!

My lad got a £200 fine a few weeks ago for breaking Covid rules.

He gets a daily training regime from his football club, and went to the uni to do it with a team mate. When he got there there was two of his uni mates from the uni football team doing a bit of training so they joined him in doing a proper work out rather than just kicking a ball about.

The police came and because there were now four of them they all got fined.

Has brought everlasting shame on the spudgun family name...

Not me personally but a couple of lads at our club that I know came over with their boat and went fishing off Cleveleys last week, they are from Bolton.

When they came back in plod were waiting for them on the slipway as they did a vehicle registration check on all cars the local ones were fine but these lads from we’re issued with a £200 fine.

One of the local lads who were out fishing asked pc plod what’s the criteria to fine someone and they said anyone not local to the Fylde coast will be fined for travelling an excessive distance to fish during lockdown.

Someone I know went to Formby to the beach and the police were there checking on reg plates and gave out fines - seems bloody Draconian!

Surely if you are Sea Fising there is a requirement for you to do it in the Sea?

So unless you live right by the Sea you'd need to travel....I'd imagine that Fylde is the neares Sea to Bolton so that ought to be OK... I could maybe understand it being called excessive if they could have gone to Fylde, but chose to Fish off the coast of New Zealand perhaps.

I haven`t and I`ve got to say if no-one else had we might not have led the world in loss of life and damage to our economy. It`s sad that we have so many indisciplined, irresponsible, selfish people that show up this country in such a poor light and puts us to shame compared to our previous stoical generations in wartime.
Yeh it’s the people’s fault, course it is zzz.

I personally think that anyone that has followed every forever changing rule down to the last detail is probably a bit weird.

You obviously like others look to dodge personal responsibility for irresponsibility and the deaths that caused.

Probably & I don't know anybody who hasn't sort of stretched things a bit. Generally I believe we on the whole are doing enough.

So you don’t have the data then?

Just to let you know 40% of transmissions occur in hospitals, but you keep thinking it’s because 3 people had a beer in someone’s garage.
It happens everywhere when people gather together and obviously on some occasions illegally thus irresponsibly causing unnecessary illness and deaths..

I haven't caused any deaths by ignoring some of the ridiculous rules that have been imposed on us.
So do you think it`s acceptable to ignore laws if you don`t happen to agree with them ie think that you know best or they are inconvenient for you?

One I haven't had it so it would seem improbable that on my walk to the beach I gave it to a stranger, especially as I manage to walk past them without licking their face or exhaling directly up their nostrils.
You have more chance of giving it to somebody on a legal trip to the supermarket.

I’ve yet to go in a shop where someone has kept 2m away from me or each other..
But as long as we get our emergency rations of red wine and salmon we can soldier on....😎

Yep. Especially those pushed through in a rush with little thought.
The idea in a democracy is that we accept the rule of law democratically passed but can campaign against any we believe are wrong unlike in dictatorships and autocracies where there is no choice.

Clearly there are always bolshie exceptions who think they know best and help to undermine the rule of law without which there would be lawless chaos.

Heaven preserve us from ridiculous comparisons with ww2.

Crime rates rose in England during ww2 whilst in Norwich house sizes ‘shrunk’ by 20% when owners were asked about bedroom space available to house refugee children

all very stoical

That's disgraceful if true Spud and I really feel for your lad who has committed the cardinal sin of keeping himself fit and healthy.

I won't be contributing to his fine mind.

He has my permission to tell them to get to feck.

Obviously there are exceptions to every rule and there was no furlough for anyone in the war unlike now where so many have been cushioned but from what my mother told me the vast majority put up with relative poverty, bombing and rationing very stoically for around 6 years.

If you seriously need data to confirm that groups of people gathering together spread the virus then you need help.

50's

Very true and no doubt you mean well but following guidelines/initiatives/restrictions as laid down could in some instances be more irresponsible and ultimately cause more deaths than not following them.

For example, Lytham is apparently being irresponsible by going to the beach twice a day to exercise or whatever it was he said he does but in the summer we had the Chancellor actively encouraging folk to dine out in pubs and restaurants.

I'd suggest those dining out were behaving in a more irresponsible manner than Lytham ?

Their actions will have certainly put more strain on the NHS.

I do hear what you say and certainly don't wish to appear overly critical of you but I do think it would be rather silly to expect everybody to abide every little restriction and you may be being a tad over critical of folk who have not done too much wrong.

Please can I stress that I know you mean well.

To be fair to the copper, he had been called out because there was a big gang of yoofs kicking a ball around on the uni carpark. They scattered and ran off when the old Bill came, and young spud and his mates, who were obviously doing a proper training session, were just collateral damage. The copper apologised but said he would have to book them.

I`ve also grounded him and stopped his pocket money.

I`m sure 50`s would approve...😏

You've lost me Spud because I don't know if you are on the wind up.

If you are being serious, I'd like to think the coppers would have just warned your lad and his pals.

I think I`ve already made clear that some transgressions of the rules are far more dangerous than others but the more people choose to bend the rules then the more others are tempted to transgress further still that`s human nature.

The bottom line is though that any who gather together increase the likelyhood of the virus spreading and the more it spreads the more danger that there is of a variant developing that is not destroyed by our current vaccines which could be disastrous so the more we follow the rules the less likely that is to happen.

I presume you are just having a laugh, can’t believe anyone would say that seriously
Nope.

The rules are to leave the house once a day for exercise, we go two or three times, young dog, mental health and bugger all risk.

As soon as travel is lifted I'll be off to the Lakes as well.

The rules are fairly clear. You can only meet one other person outside to exercise. I would have said I was exercising as part of a pair, and had no idea what the others were doing personally.

1950’s.... There are lots of things we have been allowed to do, during the pandemic which increase the risk of transmission and other things we have been told not to do, which pose barely any risk at all (Lytham refers).

Why would you object to people doing less of the former and more of the latter, just because the law (or more likely guidelines/advice) are a bit of an ass.

That's all fair enough 50's.

I know you mean well and I did say that.

You make good points about the dangers of more people breaking rules and large gatherings.

I just previously thought that you were perhaps being a tad over critical of Lytham as I believe he is just applying a bit of common sense rather than being highly irresponsible and to be fair you have stated that some transgressions are more dangerous than others and probably had already recognised that but I hadn't read all the thread.

Well, a bit unlucky - but they were breaking the rules so fair enough. As said many times by many people, if we all follow the rules we'll be out of this mess sooner.

Quite right they were fined too. I like climbing hills but live on the Fylde coast. And as for mountaineering in the Alps...😞

No excuses for them.

Wiz

We all know the rules and it certainly appears that Spud's lad has broken them.

Personally I would rather see officers of the law spending their time catching murderers and rapists than young lads playing football in a group of 4.

Apologies for my lazy and perhaps sarcastic response Wiz but I do find it pathetic IF - I don't know if he's on the wind up ? - Spud's lad got fined.

Don't think it's lazy or sarcastic, just pointing out that in lockdown, it's quite explicit that you can only meet one person outside for the purpose of exercise. Given the laissez faire attitude to the rules that have led us to the state we're in (added to the shambolic way we've implemented the rules), I wouldn't criticise the police for issuing fines, but save that for when they don't.

From the police's perspective it's a quick win, like traffic offences. They're unlikely to be catching murderers and rapists all day every day. Despite the sensationalist headlines, they're pretty unusual crimes for a day to day beat copper to be involved in.
