Applehead

I'm not calling for his head as I never wanted him in the first place. Any manager that is so one dimensional deserves all the abuse coming their way. This squad cannot play 433, why he's persisting with it, is a joke in itself.
Tbf tonight we played ok but the usual dreadful final ball and finishing.

Thats not formation but players like CJ, Lavery who weren't good enough.

I said from day one he faced an uphill battle to win over some of the fans, and a poor start would have them immediately on his back.

1 win, albeit a poor one, followed by 2 garbage displays playing a system we don't have the players for, and the heat is already on.

Lose on Saturday and the thin skinned board will be thinking about giving another interview to get everyone to pipe down.

Appleton either has to find a system that works for the players he has, or it'll all end in tears.

He's obsessed with a system that the majority of this team tried and it didn't work. I get that he's hoping that with more coaching, his tactics will fall into place but he still needs to adapt and be able to change if it's not working.
I'm trying to be objective and probably failing because I didn't want him and was absolutely shocked when they appointed him
He's proper hit the jackpot with a four year deal. Wtf was the board thinking?

The answer isn't to change manager, it's to bring in players that can give us a goal threat in midfield and up front. You could put any manager in charge and we'd still have this issue - we had the same problem last season too.

I like the players we're going for, but it's time for the board to stop flapping about and let us know whether it's serious about competing in the championship. If it is, then we need to get a couple of our targets across the line. We've dithered for over a year now about spending £1m when we clearly have the money. It's time to be more decisive.

A raft of championship sides went out to to lower league opposition

Get over yourselves

We dominated the game but were let down by poor finishing by all accounts

It’s the finishing that needs sorting not Appleton’s appointment
Couldn't agree with this more. Good Centre Forward and LW in and we are laughing. Only problem is can we get them.

I wasn’t there last n, does it appear he’s lost the dressing room, are the players fighting for the shirt, which they were for a lot of last season.

As I’ve already posted on here, Appleton wasn’t my first choice and I was disappointed. Last night was bang average but was also useful in highlighting the issues we have even further. In the final third we are hopeless. We were never in any danger of conceding and completely controlled the game (which should be a given against a team like that) but the lack of a cutting edge is obvious and palpable. The board have to decide if they want to push the boat out to get the manager the players he needs for us to retain our Championship status. We need a quality midfielder, two strikers and a wide player. Our strikers are all sub standard for this level -all of them and without exception are just not good enough. I think we’re ok defensively but you win games at the top end of the pitch and these forward players will see us in big trouble if we don’t replace them. How Critchley didn’t see this I’ll never know.

There's no continuity with his appointment, we stayed up comfortably last season and a couple of new additions and I felt we could kick on. We played to our strengths last season but everything seems to have been ripped apart and we're starting from scratch again. The system doesn't suit what we've got so we're on really dodgy ground.

If the job was so great then I think Quitchley might of stayed, so maybe it isn’t so rosy behind the scenes. I’m not and never have been a bullshit Ben fan. As for SS it was a brave thing to do to buy a football club but he isn’t a bottomless pit of money and he has done some great things and some very naive things and you have to wonder how much he is enjoying it and if he could go back would he do it again?

I imagine the only time he has second thoughts is when he reads some of the ungrateful bollocks spouted on this forum........

I think the job at BFC is hard as the back room and infrastructure means head coach has a heavy burden. I’m sure that was what was behind the Critch decision when all is said and done. Appleton will be more assertive and managerial and I think the board might have a culture shock on their hands.

I agree, if you are huffing and puffing at 0-0 against a League 2 club and sticking to the plan that ain't working then Appleton should bite the bullet and say "right lads you aren't quite there with what I want you to do, go 4-4-2 to win this match and we'll keep working on my formation and tactics in training." 🤷

I'm worried for Appleton that he just seems stubborn.

Not just this board but in general, they clearly read this site, personally I think they would be better not doing so. I have no issues with SS, he has been heroic but as he said he has no experience, he's a supporter of the club and I'm sure many of us would have wanted to do the same if we had the money, but it would be a super hard thing to take on and we have to understand that and give him lots of slack, he will get it right it's just going to take time. He is like the manager as he has his team around him and he will be making sure they are all doing their job properly too, so anyone who is failing to deliver will be out of the door. It's bloody difficult to employ the right people, I know this myself now after employing people who seemed great but turned out to be liabilities and I had to get rid and I've had great employees who I have been really happy with and they go off after 12 months to set up on their own, it's a bastard being an employer and as always being an employee until 5 years ago I realise how ungrateful I must have been and a pain in the arse as I didn't really give a shit about my employers.

It's the same getting footballers in, they come and go, some are good, some are okay and others turn out to be shit, it's hard to get the right mix and Apper's wants to play a certain way, he has inherited a team and he is seeing who. he wants to keep and who he wants to let go. He then needs to get in the players he wants, all in a couple of months. It's a tough gig and if he is going to succeed it is going to take time and it won't click overnight. It is imperative he doesn't lose his job early, he has to have this full season and I would take staying in this division right now. They have given him a 4 year contract (seems a long time) so they must realise it isn't going to happen overnight.

We played 5 league games at the start of last season and got 2 points and we looked shite. We already have 3 after only 2 games. A win on Saturday would be great but I fear there are quite a few supporters who are ready to pounce on Appleton at the first chance they can when he and the team need our support.

It's a funny old game.

Maybe that’s why Critchley left? No backing to bring in players?

Ye the team need our support, maybe you should start going to games👍🏻 There’s a thought 😯

Because it's the best formation for attacking football and all the best clubs in the world play this way.

Put it this way, Arsenal & City wouldn't be sending us youngsters if we're playing 442 hoof it to Madine

Get with the times.

Being a ** as usual?

I live 250 miles away and have my own business which requires me to work Saturdays until 1pm, not that it's any business of yours, I just don't like dickhead little tossers who like to make snide remarks from the safety of their keyboard.

Personally I’d give him the same amount of time as Critch had before he managed to turn things around.
If we’re in the bottom 5 by January then drastic changes need to take place. Worse case scenario is we get relegated and Oxford come up.

Ah right my apologies, didn’t realise you were the only one that runs their own business or lives out of Blackpool.
you though were the one that personally abused Ben mansford, not sure what gives you the right as an outsider to do that.

I haven't abused him, I'm just not convinced he's the right man for the job, time will tell. And how does living 250 miles away make me an outsider? It makes me a Blackpool supporter of over 50 years who has travelled the length and breadth of the country supporting the team from when I lived in Blackpool and when I moved down south. I just can't currently get to games sadly.

I am perfectly with the times thank you, my issue isn't 433, it's the lack of adaptability. Appleton hasn't got the players he needs to suit that system, what I'm suggesting is playing to our strengths until we do.

I don’t care how much money I had I wouldn’t buy a football club even if I was a billionaire

Pre Sadler maybe but not now.

A thankless task.

I’d rather just watch the football and let someone else take the mither.

We are lucky to have SS a man who has put millions in and takes nothing out.

Few people would be prepared to do that

We have been dreadful for 2 1/2 games, if you're happy with that performance tonight against Barrow, I'm not sure what to say. The first 45 was particularly dire.
Where do I say I was happy with it, the build up was ok, particularly 2nd half, we dominated and didnt take advantage of any of our chances, it was the final 3rd play once again that let us down with the completely out of form players who played, like CJ and Lavery.

We dominated the game but were let down by poor finishing by all accounts
I am usually positive but that was abject again last night Angel and from the first half hour of the first game we have gone backwards.
To have no plan B is indefensible and I just hope he can swallow his pride a bit sooner than Quitchly did and try a different formation.
