Appleton

He doesn’t need charisma. He may have a flat personality. People who know him may think otherwise I’m sure he has friends .

He comes across as a serious professional. He’s had success as a manager .

It’s not Tinder.
I think he has one friend (The little chippy fella that looked like "Face" out of the A-Team, who was his assistant in his Month with Blackpool), which in fairness is a step up from 'No-Friends' Critchley, but a Manager does need some personality.

I don't want to go on a date with the Manager, but I do want fans and players to feel inspired by him... It's necessary to create a proper buzz...

The best description I can give of him is that he reminds me of the music they play in the background at Morrisons Supermarkets

Appleton would be a massive backward step. Aside from the fiasco of his last appointment with us, he hasn't actually achieved anything significant despite him being an allegedly outstanding coach.

Evatt is now a proven manager who would bring back a massive feel-good factor to the club, however the longer this saga goes on I fear that the club isn't interested in his services.

I'd expect that Bolton, Evatt and Blackpool would all remain very tight lipped about any contact over the Blackpool job until a deal was done.... So if we were in discussions it certainly wouldn't be on Alan Nixon's radar for example.

I can't see Evatt happening.
Just because he played for us a few years ago it doesn't mean that he would want to give up his security and prospects at Bolton - an arguably bigger club in terms of infrastructure and fan base - to come to what looks a bit like a poisoned chalice with us. At Bolton he should be challenging for promotion or at least in the top half with a squad that he knows and chose.
We look set to struggle this season, the negative factors are; second season syndrome, manager disruption, no recruitment during the summer so far and a limited wages and transfer budget. Whoever gets the job will have a challenge. If Evatt accepted it is quite conceivable that he would be unemployed this time next year and with a failure on his otherwise impeccable CV.
Rosenior would be my choice out of the candidates we know about, Appleton second choice.

Ashley Westwood?

Why such a negative reaction to Appleton ?
He left after a few weeks having sussed the Oystons out, declaring that “ Blackpool FC is run on a day to day basis”. He happens to be a very good coach, and has plenty of contacts in the game. Pool could do far worse.
If he hadn't done his research before he took the job it does suggest a lack of preparation which I'd suggest is , if carried over into a management role, is a sufficiently negative trait to make him undesirable

Poisoned chalice ??? No recruitment ??? It’s June 10th

Bit negative for you that....

There's still plenty of positive's at Blackpool F.C. and whilst we might not have the mega budget, we are well run and provide a platform to support success..... I think we possibly underestimate the utter shit shows that exist even at some of the bigger, higher spending clubs.... You can get a long way in football just by doing the basic things well enough.... 👍

I'm am generally positive about things BFC, particularly now, but from Evatt's perspective things could look like this and that is why I believe that he is not interested in the vacancy. He probably backs himself to get Bolton promoted next season.
Whoever we get has a difficult job on their hands, it's a very tough division and we have had a shock departure with all the disruption that comes with it.

He was coming from Portsmouth and not being being paid wages
Blackpool was a slightly better option

It doesn’t sound like he was particularly invested in football generally though to have been so ‘in the dark’

Was he just going through the motions etc…?

How good is his judgement generally?

Has he even got the tools to deal with different characters….

I mean I know Karl Oyston was at the height of his bellendery at that point, but to my mind three’s a lack of resilience and what have you that goes alongside quitting so quickly….

A Holloway for example, has the capability to find a pathway to work with Karl and get the best out of him - same with players….

So if players don’t respond when Appleton grunts, where does he go next?

The attractions would have been

1. Move much closer to home
2. Get paid as opposed to working for free
3. Decent squad that had nearly been promoted to the prem
4. No other offers of employment
5. Club with a history of managerial stability

He was probably desperate at the time and on paper it was an reasonable proposition

Since then I would suggest his stock has risen

Last season his side didn’t do well but they lost 3 fantastic players and he was recovering from prostrate cancer

The previous they narrowly missed out on promotion to the championship

He ain’t a dud

Noxon has spent the last few days slating every other media outlet for reporting issues with the Kirchner deal, claiming it was in process only to announce (after pretty much every other source on the planet) that he's missed the deadline and that his exclusivity has gone... He obviously gets snippets of info, but he talks a whole load of shyte in between.

From the Oracle that is the Reading Chronicle this morning!

Former Reading FC defender Liam Rosenior is "close" to being named new head coach of Championship side Blackpool.

Former full-back Rosenior has been a coach at troubled Derby County since 2019, becoming a highly-regarded first team coach under current boss Wayne Rooney in January 2021.

Former Pools manager Neil Critchley took the Tangerines from League One to a comfortable midtable finish in the Championship last season, but was head-hunted by Aston Villa manager Steve Gerrard to replace outgoing assistant manager Michael Beale.
According to Aidan McCartney of Reach PLC, the Lancashire side are "close" to giving him his first crack at management.

The 37-year-old spent three years in Berkshire, playing more than 60 times from 2007 until 2010.

He went on to have successful spells with Hull City and Brighton before hanging up his boots in 2018.

Mr Simon Sadler………

Didn’t we tell you Appleton was a waste of space?????

You’ve got 4 weeks to get somebody in to turn this around, otherwise you’ll lose the fan base that you’ve brilliantly brought back to Bloomers and your investment down the swanny.

In you we trust.
