Are you voting tomorrow?

I realised when I looked at the voting cards that I have no idea who the candidates in my area are for the council or for the Police & Crime Commissioner. Not one has canvassed in my locality, not one has been seen in the high street or has knocked on my door. I've got no idea what they stand for or what they propose to do for me. If I vote tomorrow I feel I'm just being a hypocrite. Does anyone else know what or who they're voting for?

Same here. Looked on the Blackpool council website to try and get some background, and couldnt find much info.
I did however find out that my local ward councillor lives on my street, yet I had no idea !!!
So at this point I still dont know who I may vote for, so any info will be appreciated before I pop along to the Polling station later.
Are the Monster Raving Loony Party still going ? 😉

Edit to add - Just looked at the heading on the polling cards and it appears the voting is for Police and Crime Commissioner only, as mentioned by TJ above ☺️

Had a lot of rubbish through the door, been quite a stink about it up here, particularly when it mentions their environmental credential. There's been so much, the Postie's had a hernia!

Will vote to keep the SNP out, for whoever came second last time in both constituency and regional vote

Good man. Hopefully you'll be steering clear of the Alba nonsense as well.

At the first P&CC election I felt the same; no idea who anyone was and no door knockers to tell me. I felt like not voting, as a protest. However, when duty calls - so I spoilt my ballot paper instead.
It's the only thing to do if you believe in the duty of voting but don't like, or know, the candidates. That is why I support the 'none of the above' option going onto all ballot papers.

Not bothering. Local councils are totally shafted by central government spending cuts anyway so whatever they try to promise in a leaflet to get in power, they will be financially hindered to implement anything anyway, no matter which party it is.

Anyway, politics all get sorted out on AVFTT so no point bothering with the official system.

There are people (men and women) in history who fought/campaigned tooth and nail to get the right to vote. Seems a shame to waste it.
And yes, you have the right not to vote if the “menu” is not to your taste.

Yes...always try to vote.

We have both local council and Mayor of Greater Manchester this year.

Expect our Local Lib Dem ( Mark Hunter) will win ( current incumbent)and whilst not a supporter of the party he is both our former MP and leader of the Council ( Stockport) and a decent politician ( unlike too many of all parties) and a nice guy having met him in the past.Still won’t get my vote mind you.😀

Andy Burnham will no doubt win the Gtr Mcr Mayoral vote though personally can’t stand the guy( so definitely will not be getting my vote) but the overall make up of Gtr Mcr is such that it is probably a shoe in particular as the alternative candidates hardly come over as dynamic. One in fact with his list of what he wants to do is clearly living in cuckoo land.

So even though my votes probably won’t sway the outcomes I will still go as too many in this world don’t have the opportunity to elect their politicians and we should be grateful we do.

I’am no longer on the Blackpool electoral role having moved to Wyre a few years ago but a word of warning if the good people of Blackpool would like to see Blackpool airport open up to commercial traffic again then voting Labour will Not let that happen.

Voting for a conservative elected council will open discussions with airlines with a view to bringing back commercial business something the labour controlled council simply don’t want to meet us.

We already have meetings planned in the near future with this topic top of the list and having a conservative led council will make this so much easier because the labour councillors simply won’t meet us.

We also have Scott Benton (Blackpool Tory mp) fully on board something Gordon Marsden (ex labour mp) never supported us in choosing to stay in his home in Brighton. 😮

Unless you vote purely along party political lines it's very difficult to gain enough information about each candidate to be able to make an accurate informed decision so why vote?

Blackpool not voting for the council. Think we're only voting on the crime commissioner today (except Norbreck where the sitting councillor passed away)
I wonder what the turnout will be for areas only voting pcc. I bet 10% max. I'll wander up shortly just for the fresh air having been wfh all day

Just back...

Well Bippy Village Community Centre was a buzz of electrifying tension. Two clerks, two oldies and me...and quite possibly the most boring election sheet ever. I have to be honest I don't even know what the PCC does. I remember a few years back a bit of scandal about a labour one and hus expenses but then don't they all
Anyway I had to allow the clerk to explain to me I had two votes, first preference and second preference and was warned not to vote for the same person twice. Clearly my superior intelligence was hidden behind my flowing locks and face nappy.

Anyway vote made and picked some bloke from reform party as backup choice...I assume that's in case the first choice is shot from the grassy knoll prior to taking up the post.

Never heard of reform party but limited choices reduced my options. I'd really like to see a pagan viking party stand with free drinking horns and forest orgies for all but alas that's not an option today

Anyway get yourselves down there and execute your social duty to partake in the democratic process

I'd quite like to sack it off and become supreme leader myself but I'd get annoyed at all your constant whining. Its bad enough just on this site

Hail Odin

Threw it in the bin Police and Crime commissioner WTF?
Utterly pointless just a way of young Cons/Labour to get on the gravy train.

I always exercise my democratic right to vote and still get a buzz from doing so and never missed an opportunity to vote since my first time in 1976.

I always think that if you can’t be bothered to vote then you have no right to complain about what happens as a result.

As it happens, my vote has rarely counted for the winning party, but by God I do get to complain a lot!

Not voting . Have no idea who would make the best PCC.
Also don’t prescribe to this ‘must vote’ philosophy.
I wouldn’t pick a partner on the best of a bad bunch if I didn’t really fancy or connect with any of them. I’d stay independent 👍
Same with my politics. I’ll vote if there’s a candidate I believe in , but not for votings sake alone.
