Attracting Gay fans

Surely this will now be high up on the marketing agenda now we are national news

Just heard a bloke on Talk Sport from one of the Gay football groups, reckons young Jake will have a new army of fans along with our club

He might be on to something as Jake has thousands of new twitter followers

Maybe this was the plan all along with the £32 price point for match day tickets

Build it and they will come 💪

There's no chance in hell anyone at the club at any time thought about making ticket prices what they are because they knew Jake coming out *might* attract new fans.

I have no doubt the attention will attract new fans (as you mention Jake has gone from only a couple hundred followers to almost 15,000 now), and they should be welcomed with open arms, but it's preposterous to suggest that ticket pricing was done with the thought of Jake coming out.

The club have done everything right every step of the way in order to give Jake his platform and voice and I can't see anyone directly trying to use this just to make money, it's about Jake first and foremost.

There's probably work we can do as a Club to further develop positive links with the LGBT community in Blackpool itself and to ensure that Bloomfield Road is a friendly and welcoming environment. As was mentioned on the other thread, cutting out the infrequent homophobic chants from a small minority of fans is a must really.

In the main, I think our fanbase has moved on quite significantly and apart from a few dinosaurs (and let's face it, every club has them) you rarely hear anything remotely hateful that could be construed as racist, sexist or homophobic from our supporters.

It would be absolutely fantastic if we attracted additional supporters and increased the diversity of our support as a result of Jake's announcement, but I'm not sure that will have been planned at all.

It's a ridiculous, cynical, fantasy argument. There is no way that Jake Daniel's coming out was devised as a marketing opportunity by the club.
Jake Daniels has played all of 30 minutes first team football for Blackpool and there is no guarantee that he will ever play for the first team again like so many others who come from the youth set up. If he had had an army of 15,000 fans wanting to watch him last season then Blackpool would have received exactly £0 as he never took part in any match at BR.
I am pretty sure (hopes) it was tongue in cheek.

Jake is a very talented young player. 30 goals in the youth set up and straight on the first team bench.

But you have to ask yourself if he’ll be involved in the first team next season. Surely a lower league loan would be the way to go to get him segue experience and minutes under his belt. I wouldn’t be playing him just for the press

Yep, time moves on as well, you're not going to get homophobic or racist chants from the younger lads because it just doesn't exist like it used to when we were all younger.

It's just the odd older idiot, but they're (literally) a dying breed anyway.

Don't forget he's only Category 3. 😉

On the plus side of your post......

You have stopped complaining about the club/manager/fans/players/formation/facilities/prices/marketing/Oyston downfall/books & booster seats

On the other side of the post.......if it's logical....Then you're going to be busy most Saturday nights because you're a massive cock
No need whatsoever 🙁 you are the type of bigot we want rid of👍🏻

🤣 Post of the year so far, even though I think on this occasion the Aldi Piers Morgan was attempting to be humorous?

Outstanding potential this one, quiet something how many you've bagged here both the knowing and the unknowing.

You truly are the master young Philip 👏

Now that is what I call cynical, Phil. 😂

You took Phil's comment seriously then? 😂😂😂😂 You doughnut! 😉

Neither will we. He hasn't played for Crewe for a start... 🤣

Yes I heard about that interview.

Nice bloke but I have to say if I’d been asked to choose the face of liberal and progressive BFC he probably wouldn’t have been the first name that’d spring to mind.

And I hadn’t seen the similarity to Matt Lucas before now but now it’s been pointed out it is pretty obvious.

We all know you are Tangerine through and through but……

Fcuk me Phil it's astonishing how tongue in cheek humour flies over some peoples heads. I'm staggered.

Well I’ll start it then - am I the only one thinking that these joke pix/memes (whatever the fuck they are) are just examples of the piss taking that might be holding back players from coming out?
Apologies if I’m way off the mark, but seems off to me?
I think there's a difference between humour aimed at a kit, based on a sketch done by a gay man being humours about himself and others and theres blatantly being against gay people like some clearly are from backward countries.

I think the reason people haven't come out is not light humour, but more the abhorrent abuse they receive from 'fans' and haters.

You may be right, mate. It was just my opinion and gut feeling.
I tried to imagine Jake reading our forum over the last 24 hours - he must have been thinking ‘wow, nothing but love and support’, then maybe seeing the ‘lighthearted, banter, stereotypical gay jokes.
I might be over reacting, but I’d hoped for something different to be honest.

I agree. And maybe it’s not for us to decide what is light hearted humour and what is insulting with regards to someone else’s life, sexuality and feelings.

Yeah I can see your point though. Which is why I wouldn't post anything.

Doesn't mean I didn't find it humours.

Comedy is a tough one when it comes to offending, as everything can be offensive.

I always feel you need an element of being able to laugh at yourself, which isn't always easy.

But the reaction and support has been unanimous.

Ive worked with gay men and we’ve took the piss out of our sexuality
ive worked with with people of every colour and race and we’ve taken the piss out of each other
my good tramping/hunting buddy is of Indian descent and from South Africa, now he saw 999 what’s your emergency ( the Blackpool one) you want to hear what he calls me 🤣🤣

I guess what I’m trying to say is that you can say stuff that is funny about colour/sexuality religion without it being offensive
but then again there’s people that will be offended on behalf of other people that they have nothing to do with.

For context (for anyone who doesn’t already know) I’m told that Raggy (Top Brass and unofficial spokesperson of the Muckers) was interviewed on five live this morning. I didn’t hear the interview but am told that he was very, very supportive of Jake’s decision, Simon Sadler and all things BFC related (including the ticket pricing policy presumably which must be a bit embarrassing for any critics).

I think the op should be read in that context although if you weren’t aware of the interview I can see why it could be misinterpreted. As in jokes often are.

That's how much damage woke is doing to our humour cells, everything has to be taken seriously. There was a time we could take this kind of tongue in cheek comment in good humour, now everything seems to be taken offensively.
The op is humorous if you know Raggy gave the interview. If you didn’t know that then it’s very easy to take the op at face value.

On a serious note the important thing for me is that the interview was apparently (I didn’t hear it) wholly supportive of Jake’s decision. That’s very important given the supporters’ group in question.

I didn't know that but still found it funny as its banter about the ticket price again.
