Available Players

There’s a few players we’ve been linked with or I’d certainly like us to be linked with that are strangely either still at their respective clubs (and were expected to move) or stranger still are out if contract.

Matty Longstaff
Conor Ronan
Anthony Hartigan
Morgan Rogers
Regan Poole

Would be happy to sign any of the above.

Regan Poole is one I thought they might look to do when Appleton came in and looked at the gaps. He's a solid right back who can cover the back four. And if it ends up wing backs at any point he did a year of that at MK. But Lincoln aren't bottom of league two and in the market to accept whatever they can get.

Nobody had our latest left back on their list until his name popped up and then suddenly everyone's got a mate who has been watching Brentford B for two years and says he's brilliant and things like that so we don't know really.

I'd love to be in on the secret whatsapp group where clubs and agents circulate names of available players to see if they can get a bite. There must be something that goes on like that, surely?

After this past couple of weeks I'd say they're definitely better off shopping in the they-need-you-more-than-you-need-them market for new players if Appleton wants to put his stamp on this squad ASAP. Anything that involves big effort seems to be coming up short.

Er, aren't all of those already under contract? In what sense are they available?

Andre Wisdom, ex-Derby, has been out of contract since last summer and could do a job at RB, he is "available".

Looks to me like a less good Connolly, so I'm not sure if he's what the club needs.

Yeah it sounds like they might end up settling on Connolly as getting them out of a hole whenever Gabriel is out again.

Like your Wisdom shout. Someone who's grateful for the work. Get a body in, wow the crowd with the activity and no questions asked about missing out when a player has a choice.

Hartigan is out of contract. Longstaff, Ronan and Rogers are expected to leave on permanents or loans.

Hartigan still commands compensation due to age, the others are "expected to leave" but that doesn't mean they are "available".
Splitting hairs much ? We just bid £1.2 million for a player. Compo for Hartigan will be in the high 5 figures or low 6 figures. Ronan likely available for less than 500k.

But I am just giving examples. I’d like to sign these sort of players and I am suprised they’re not elsewhere yet.

I don't think the club can rely on Connolly at RB, he's too valuable in midfield, or as cover elsewhere.

Wisdom is only 29, has spent his entire career playing PL or Championship football, I'm genuinely surprised that he doesn't have a club ATM.

Didn't he have a few mental health problems or something like that? Might be thinking of the wrong guy. That traditionally has been our market though. Damaged goods who you groan at when they sign but then they put a shift in for you. They're grateful for the second chance, become loyal and you've got a player who you couldn't afford if they were 100%.

Don't know anything about MH issues, I think that might be someone else.

AFAIK he was out of contract at Derby, but training with them and presumably expected to get a new contract, but administration and EFL restrictions meant that never arrived, and by the time it became apparent a new contract wasn't coming nobody else was willing to pay what he wanted.

Last I heard, he was on trial at Portsmouth, so presumably would be within our budget, and should still have a few good seasons in him, I think he'd make a great signing for someone.

I've found what I was thinking of. He ended up in hospital after getting stabbed and robbed. Had a rough few years.

Possibly Jordan Ibe who had the difficulties with his mental health. Very talented young player on big money who seems to have just left the game completely. Ex Liverpool and Derby too.

That's the fella! Jordan Ibe. Thanks for that. Too much too soon leaving Wycombe (I think it was) for Liverpool as a youngster.

Mallik Wilkes age 23yrs Stiker/Winger Hull City, Jay Fulton 28yrs experienced midfielder from Swansea.
Both players are available but wont be cheap.

I’d have gone for Ronan on a permanent before Brannagan, because I think he’s a better all round player.
Cheaper.
What’s not to like?

Reading this thread, it's as if Scrafton had never interviewed Sadler and Mansford.
Why ? I don’t recall the interview saying our business is done and we won’t be signing anyone else ? Is it not a relief the threads are going back to the normal ‘he would be a good signing’ topics as opposed to criticism and moaning.

Yes, if only it were that. The way people post crosses from the contemplative to the confrontational very easily.
