Bad Injury Update

Where the hell have they both come from?

But again it shows the strength in depth we have here where we are still in a promising position despite this.

It all feels like it will be a step too far up against everything, but we'll keep going.

I know, it seemed like they could both be knocks and now they're season ending injuries!

Feel for those lads now, a massive blow for us having them two out for the business end of the season now. But as you say, we'll give it a bloody go regardless!

Looking a bit thin on the ground in midfield now. The likes of Turton might have to step in to midfield if needed. An injury to Yates would be a disaster.

Kinl. Never rains does it. Wish them both well.

Thought it might be one of those way Virtue twisted in the challenge. Hoped it wasn't but it us so of course it is the worst possible news.

CJ's will sort itself out. Better than the hamstring going again for a player who is all pace. And at least they're having to find value in having taken a punt on Mitchell with him being out.

Wish both players all the best, that is such a shame.

I know people don't like to hear excuses, but there's no getting around the fact that we have had absolutely horrendous luck with injuries this season, as bad as I can remember. The fact we're in sixth position is honestly amazing, and if we make the playoffs it would be a fantastic achievement.

CJ is the bigger of the misses - big player for us early on but you could tell he wasn't quite right when he came back. Real chance for Ethan Robson to show what a shrewd signing he was.

Bad injury for Matty I did wonder when they mentioned his knee, but saw him smiling on the bench later, which led me to believe it wasn't as serious. We've had our share of long term injuries this season. Good luck to both Matty & CJ.

Not good news at all.
CJ and Matty are both injuries which are part and parcel of the game but I do wonder how much this punishing schedule has contributed.

Virtue won’t be ready for the start of next season with an ACL injury as that’s a minimum of 6 months even if a minor tear which is gutting for him. If there is any positive to take from CJs injury it’s that it’s shouldnt, long term, affect his biggest asset which is his pace.

Looking at the bench today with the 3 youngsters it’s good that we signed so many players last summer.

I still think what we have is enough to make top 6 but it will be tough, especially if we pick up anymore injuries or suspensions.

2 key games against Sunderland without Virtue, Embleton, Anderson & possibly Stewart available for the middle of park is a concern.

Signed a lot of players but there's still 5-6 who don't affect anything within those numbers so it will still only stretch so far.

If they've got recall options on one or two on loan I'd be looking into it even if it's just more bodies at this point. No idea where Lubala is or else he could help out. You can tell with YT players on the bench but not getting on the pitch that NC doesn't really want to use any of them without the minimum of a three goal lead going into the last few minutes of a game. Shaw probably the closest as he's older but he got subbed off at half time on his full debut for Stockport today.
Yeah don’t disagree with any of that. Signing so many you will always get good ones like Yates, Dougall & Hamilton (and I’d put Gabriel & Mitchell in there) and ones who maybe don’t cut it.

Cant really keep up with who went on loan and who left permanently but of the lads still out on loan I could only really see Feeney getting anywhere near our bench, if he was even recalled which I assume would be unlikely.

Very sad news both for them and the club. Two influential players who make a difference. We do not need anymore bad news,

Never known BFC have so many injuries and long term injuries like we have this season. Down to the bare bones and it’s beginning to show. Nothing on the bench to affect the game

Unfortunately that could be season over for the seasiders.
Despite what people say we haven't got strength in depth Anderson and now CJ and Virtue ruled out for the season three main players.
With Stewart and Madine seeming to be taking ages to get back it's looking really bad for the run in.
Ok, so Ballard and Marv will be back soon but the defence hasn't been a problem.

With Madine AWOL and the reluctance to play Simms the burden and a heavy one at that is placed on Yates shoulders, he cannot be expect to carry Blackpool through to the end of the season. A scrappy equaliser and penalty from today doesn't really install confidence.

I genuinely hope that the players that are able to come back do so very soon as we need all hands to the pumps. I firmly believe that we'll need a huge slice of luck now to finish in the playoffs as the injury count has finally caught up with us but you never know.

Please can I state that this is only my opinion so no one gets the huff over the post.

These injuries might explain why we looked so lost in the first half...a big mental blow losing two players who’ve just come back from injury after long lay offs.

CJ out for the season is a big blow as he's a genuine match winner. We really need Ekpiteta, Madine and Stewart back from injury asap and hopefully Ballard to return uninjured to provide options and give us some physicality back. I thought we looked a bit weak today especially first half understandable given the huge effort on Tuesday. The two Easter games are huge with Swindon still in danger of relegation and Gillingham looking to break into the top six.

6 days before the next game. I reckon Ballard, Ekpiteta and Madine will in contention plus Gretarsson ready for 90 minutes.

Bad news for Matty, but FFS cheer up.

Dougall and Ward is our best pairing in the middle, and we're better without CJ now. We'll have a proper CB pairing by the next game and we're unbeaten in 11 games or something.

Season over my arse.
Matty will be fine, I know from personal experience the challenge of rehab after the operation, but it’s no longer a career ending injury.

I agree, season is far from over, and actually I think the constant challenges have created a strong squad unit. That counts for a lot at this stage of the season.

In 50 years of watching Blackpool I can't remember a situation anywhere near as bad a this season, terrible luck!

It is a big blow to our squad as both have done very well for us, thankfully we have Ward, Dougall and Robson to cover the 2 holding midfield positions with Stewart hopefully returning for the last few games. Mitchell has stepped up and is doing very well down the right so has reduced the impact of losing CJs pace. It is however gutting for the players themselves, ACL injuries can take time to fully recover from but I'm sure MVT has a strong mentality and will be back Oct/Nov next season.

Good luck to Matty and CJ in there recovery and recover they will.

This is the stage of the season where all that planning, all that finding players who provide cover and fit into a squad payes off. Enjoy the bit of a rest then get back on it boys.

Embleton has been a fair replacement for Virtue. Our strength in depth is being well and truly tested but standing up to the test admirably so far

The biggest problem we have is that if Yates were to get injured, with Madine still out it would be left to Simms to play up front on his own and score goals. I think it was a big mistake by Critchley not signing an experienced striker in the transfer window, and signing Stewart instead.

Mitchell is also growing into the right wing berth, he instigated both our goals on Saturday and
has come close to scoring on quite a few occasions in recent weeks.
