Exclusive: Arsenal defender Dan Ballard will spend next season on loan in the Championship.

⭐ Highly-rated midfielder Charlie Patino will be integrated into the first team and feature more regularly for the U23s.

Surely our next signing?

Don't know, we seem to be closing in on signing a young Leeds CH Casey on a permanent.

Scrafton just said he thinks it's very close. Lad is in Portugal right now though so it's not imminent

Three signings in a day is just taking the piss...
If this happens then I'll turn over and find myself in bed with Holly Willoughby on one side and Amanda Holden on the other, both having just come back from a shopping spree and Ann Summers and wanting to show me the outfits they've bought .....

No I won't coz that would be a dream, just like three signings in a day .... IN JUNE 🤣

Jesus... that would be icing on the cake. Although funny some gunner fans saying he needs to not go to Blackpool as need to go to club that play football... established championship club and not in relegation battle.. lol

The way Arsenal performed last season they could be in a relegation scrap themselves

Good job he’s not staying at Arsenal then

Based on knowing nothing I'd say it'll likely be a one and done thing with Dan Ballard, and most likely Gabriel, Simms too. They'll all move on to the next stop in their development. The only loan I can see something happening with is Elliot Embleton but it sounds like Sunderland have messed themselves up over that one.

But brilliant if we can keep some or all because when something just works you never want it to stop. Nothing to say there isn't other players out there being looked at though. Which if the Olly Casey rumour is true he'd fit the profile as a right sided centre half who might not be the quickest but can get stuck in.

Casey's lack of pace is a hit of a concern, especially in an untested player in the championship

They need to look at their own performances more. They were woeful last season for the money spent.
Plus their wage policy is madness

Can someone get the Muckers a hat for their baldie heads .. the sun is clearly getting to them 😁🌞

I hope you are wrong on this pool. One thing to think about though is that regarding the next stop in their development, if it is a higher league you are talking about, why can't it be with us now that we are in the Championship?

If Casey is a contract signing and Ballard back on loan then this could force the Critchmeisters decision, just a thought 🤔

I do too. I hope we've got in there first and the player sees his immediate future here. But if Arsenal want to have a look at him in pre-season and then make him available for loan then that's who he's contracted to. Club and player may favour a different challenge with different pressures to develop and perform for his ongoing development. Also loans generate money for clubs, however negligible it may seem to an ESL-pretender, and sometimes the highest bidder wins. They have a dedicated loan manager and a department that oversees it.

Would love Ballard to return and we've certainly more chance of it happening now we are in the Championship but can anyone recall any player going on loan to the same club for a second season? Not sure it's something that happens.

Delfounso? Not sure 🤔

How many times have we signed a player on loan for a season, watched him play well, then signed him on loan again for another season?

It could work out, but it rarely does. Loans are temporary. We'll get the next Ballard. And he might be on a permanent!

Oh I hope we break the mould then, as I think he could be a very important signing for us 🤞

Ahh consecutive. Fair enough. Not sure. Like someone else said. I hope we break the mould. I think he's a future star and is destined for a career in the PL.
If not a Prem regular there's nothing to stop him talent-wise, from what I've seen, being able to make good out of flitting between like Craig Cathcart. Solid and dependable. Just maybe a couple of things on decision making but he came on a lot after January when he calmed down. He already has international caps and will get to face some really strong opposition along the way so he seems well set up for a good career.

Nice to be a footnote in that if he makes it, same with Ellis Simms. Who you could see by the end of his loan and the work put into him by the coaching staff was probably above the level he was playing at.

Unless you can turn a loan permanent it's sometimes it's best to leave a great memory as just that. Seamus Coleman, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Joe Hart, Danny Shittu loads over the years etc.

Didn't Paul Gallagher spend nearly all his career on loan at the Nobbers?

Henderson to Sheffield United?

I would be surprised if we get Ballard and Simms back, as one of the main benefits of player loans to the parent club is the broadening of a player's experiences. Embleton is different and assuming that he wants to come here permanently, Sunderland would be doing him a huge injustice if they tied him in to his existing contract, and it would be counter-productive in any case keeping a player who doesn't want to be there. As far as Gabriel is concerned, Forest would want something in return given we are in the same League. That would be either a silly fee or one of our other players and I don't think that will happen.

Loan for Embleton, don't be mad. The only chance he comes back is for a permanent transfer,

Agree, but there are benefits if returning to us. Ballard knows he is happy here, rates the coaching, knows the manager will select him to play etc. Loans don't always work out, going elsewhere is a risk. For Simms too. We have a good coaching set up and tactical astuteness.

We have as good a chance as any Championship club and more than some. In a lot of cases it is down to the player to choose where they think will benefit them most. In either case it probably won't be until later in the window when a loan is agreed, especially in the case of Simms given Everton have yet to appoint a manager.

I hope you are right but I'll believe it when I see it.

Isn’t a lot of it about the lad improving and getting game time.
I think he would continue to improve under Critch and co and all concerned probably know that.
Plus, as said earlier, it would be a risk free loan in terms of him knowing he will settle in and get game time 🙏

Not saying it'll happen, just saying it could. He could go to another Championship club and Arsenal may end up regretting it. I suspect he will push to come to us, and explain to them why. What he needs is experience in the Championship at a good club. Is there a better option?

Playing time is key to their development, they would get it here but possibly not elsewhere. Woodburn cut a very frustrated figure last season

It looks like Arsenal may be looking to send him out on loan for another season and there are a few Championship Clubs interested in having him.
If that is the case it would seem illogical for him to end up elsewhere when his development with us has been so effective and the player has loved his time here.

Location may have a bearing. Love to see him back here but very much in the balance .
yep, good point. QPR, Millwall, Fulham and Reading are just four teams I reckon are an easy commute from his home. That is if they are interested.
