Mr & Mrs Wizz off to Belfast in October.
Anyone been?
Anyone got any tips for places to visit, eat and drink?

Mrs Wizz already booked a trip to the giants causeway so we've two other days to fill.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated 👍🏻

Definitely do the Belfast bus tour its very good.
I stayed in Portrush and did all the film scenes from Game of Thrones including the Causeway.

Love how they do food in Ireland restaurants where you pick the main(say steak) and have a list of sides to choose from.

Avoid Londonderry.

Got to say it's one of the best GB holidays I've ever had the people are wonderful so friendly.👍

Black Cabs

A black cab tour is a must. We used these in the above link.

Cathedral Quarter for bars and restaurants. St Georges Market is great for brunch and browsing.

Good bars and restaurants nearer to the Uni. We went to Holahans Pantry for a good local meal - check it out on Trip Advisor etc.

It's a small City so you can get round it easy enough.

I’ve been quite a few times over the years- my Dad was actually born in Belfast.
As Schalke FY4 said, the Black Cab tour is a must as it covers both sides of the “troubles” - you also see some amazing murals.
Try and visit the Crown pub opposite the Europa Hotel in the city centre- a fantastic venue and great pint.
Further away The Giants Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and also the Old Bushmills Distillery.
Enjoy your trip 👍

If you haven't already booked a hotel I stayed in a place called the Bullitt - a great hotel in a really good location.

As above Titianic Museum and Crumlin Road Gaol are great in and around Belfast. Further a field Giants Causeway and all the Games of Thrones stuff (if that’s your cup of tea) are within an hour and a half drive away, or there are plentiful day trips that run you around.

Bars wise tourists hot spots are The Crown Bar, Robinsons and Fibber Magees which are all opposite the Europa Hotel and main train station. If I was going on a night out though I would head to the Cathedral Quarter which contains most of the decent bars and pubs, you’ll get some decent food and Irish music etc. Finish in Harp Bar, always a good night.

Again as above, Holohans Pantry, towards the University is always a must for food when my folks come over. Have a great time it’s a brilliant city

I would recommend the Conflicting Stories walk up the Falls Road with a Republican ex prisoner who then hands you over at an interface to a Loyalist ex prisoner who walks you back down the Shankill Road.

Fascinating 3 hour walk which gives you two very different views of the city and its recent history.

Few years ago since I was there but the Spaniard pub. Tiny place. Great atmosphere and night.
Been in The Spaniard. Good choice. Also try Bittles Bar. Google it, you won't believe the picture from the outside its tiny. Has paintings inside of all the main players from both sides of the troubles.

Kelly’s Cellars is a good city centre pub. Non sectarian, very friendly, live ceilidh bands etc.
Madden’s bar gets rave reviews, but my experience was that if I’d have come from any other English town than Blackpool I wouldn’t have been able to walk out. VERY pro Republican, buzzer to get in after being checked out via video camera, IRA murals everywhere and as soon as they heard an English accent the whole place stopped to stare. When I was asked where I came from, they all became friendly when I said Blackpool, and loads wanted to share stories about holidays here. Be prepared.
In the Queens quarter, where my lad lived, the Bot (Botanic Inn) is good, as is Voodoo (studenty). Katy’s Bar is good, and next door is Limelight (a live music venue that has plenty of good gigs).

Well lads n lasses just got back from Belfast and will definitely be going again as I only scratched the surface.

Places of interest..... The Titanic museum, Giants causeway and the GOT stuff (for Mrs Wizz 🙄) The hop on hop off tour which gives a great insight into the troubles (tbh it was quite emotional) there's loads more to do that's why I'm going back.

Eat and drink..... Obviously I did the Crown (wow) Fibber McGees (great night and food) obviously Laverys 😉 loads more ate in Fibbers and a great Japanese in the queen's quater and others.

Really enjoyed it though it was a surreal experience at the peace wall. Everyone was so friendly, was it put on? Who cares it made for a great time👍🏻

Glad you enjoyed it. Went in 2012 with the wife and had a great time. Did you add to the peace wall, I did?
