Ben Heneghan

He is good enough to get in the team at the moment, but hopefully not long term. We need a ball playing centre half.

Like most central defenders, he looked good in a very defensive set up alongside Tilt under McPhillips.

He wouldn’t be a disaster for us , but I’d be disappointed if we went back for him we’ve moved on from that ‘type’ of player.

As a fan base we really need to move on from pining for people who once played for us.

There are literally thousands of players out there we could explore.

I’d have no problem with Henegan, I think in a good team where we’re not being stretched all over the pitch due to a confused and sadly lacking game plan, we’d see a composed and solid centre back. Agree in our ailing team last year he didn’t look good, but he had proved to me before that that he is easily good enough. That being said, he’s very right sided and a lefty to compete with Thorniley might be preferable. I wouldn’t cry about him going elsewhere, there are other options I agree.

Regarding the Tilt discussion, when his head was in the game, I thought he was absolute class. Fast, strong, as good on the ball as any CB in recent years and very savvy (not a huge fan of the fall over technique but it worked). He lost the plot around contracts last year which was a shame, but I think he’ll do a job in the Championship comfortably. Just my opinion.

He did well for us and tbh he would probably be ahead of any of the CH's we have in the current squad as things stand.
That area should be priority for strengthening imo.

I'd be happy with Heneghan back. I think we are lacking an aerial presence in the back 4 and that was his strength and yes I do agree that he has weaknesses which hopefully our coaches can work on.
We probably aren't going to get a good ball playing CB at our level. Those that are around tend to be playing in the Championship and above.

You must have watched a different Tilt to me. He had a terrible touch at times and over played the ball. I never ever got the clamour for him. Garbage.
Thankfully Kurt you aren't our manager then. Player of the Season and now a Championship player. Pace and the ability to carry a ball with confidence into the midfield. Even scored a bicycle kick!

Goal of the Month

I'm with Kurt, unusually, on this. I always thought Tilt was overrated. I'm not bothered about defenders scoring nice goals I'm bothered by them defending and for what I saw we conceded too many goals from free headers between the 2 CH's 6-8 yards out.

So everyone that has scored a bicycle kick is amazing?

When was he our player of the season? Certainly wasn't when he left. Is this the same Curtis Tilt that was a massive part of getting Rotherham promoted? 1 appearance.

Was he really that bad? I’d argue he was better/is as good as what we’ve got currently as it’s mostly guesswork.

Husband - Is centre half his natural position?
Nottingham - See Husband.
Thornily - Came with decent reviews and has played in the championship but has looked shaken to me, doesn’t fill me with confidence. Yet.
Turton - A right back and looks like he will be starting there.
Epkiteta - Looks like he has the credentials but is untested at this level.

Id say there’s two natural centre backs there.

Tilt appears to be injured a lot and currently has wages that are likely to be above his true level of ability. He didn’t want to stay here anyways.

Tilt was a very good player. He made some very very poor off field decisions which then impacted his performances.

His relationship with the club completely disintegrates in the 4 or 5 months Before he left.

Staying in the room next to Oyston’s penthouse rubbed off on him... allegedly.

I think Heneghan is a good CH, but I don't think he'd do well back here if we are adopting a passing style. That said, our current defenders have hardly shone with their distribution so far.

I think Critchley will be looking for defenders that have more composure in possession than Heneghan. It wouldn't surprise me to see a back four of Mitchell, Thorniley, New CH, Gabriel, come the end of the transfer window. Or at least, it will be significantly different by then than it is now. If it was just a decent defender we were after, I think we'd have signed them by now. Clearly we want our defenders to have attributes that are a bit more difficult to find than if they're 6ft4.

I quite liked Beneghan but I concur with the post above. We've got two big lads who can run about, we need the player who brings it out.
