Ben Woodburn

Made the bench a few times now. Surprised he’s so close to the starting 11 but I think he’s a decent player although I know plenty on here didn’t rate him.

I don't think he looked as bad as some make out, I think he could have shown a bit more quality with an extended run in the team but there was definitely nothing to suggest he was anywhere close the Liverpool first team.

Probably due to their injury crisis.

I am still genuinely surprised with Critch's Liverpool connection, the progress that he was making and our lack of cover in that area that we didn't keep him until the end of the season.
Unfortunately, Woodburn didn't make any progress here, a big disappointment.

Think he was brought in with Critch having our recent playing style in mind. Unfortunately defensive frailties early on meant that was put on the back burner and the lad was really here at the wrong time and probably playing football in a system not really best suited to him.
I think if he were playing in the role Embleton has been playing he’d be having the same effect and we’d probably see a lot more of his true ability and potential.

Undoubtedly a good player it just didn’t work out this time around for a few different reasons.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see him back here at some point if he doesn’t break into the first team at Liverpool as he’d be an excellent addiction to the squad now we’re set up and organised how Critch likely always had in mind.

I bet he would fit in much better now in either the 3-5-2 or 4-2-3-1 formations as the man behind the striker.
He’s got ability but was here when we were struggling and then when we went 4-4-2 and he’s not really a winger.

Liverpool ‘could’ loan out Ben Woodburn again this summer, report Goal – the 21-year-old spent last season on loan with Blackpool.

Woodburn joined Blackpool on a short-term loan deal at the start of the season just gone.

He went on to feature 10 times for Blackpool in the first half of the 2020/21 League One campaign before returning to Liverpool.

The Welshman returned to Anfield and proved prolific for the club’s development side but wouldn’t make a first-team appearance, instead making the substitute’s bench on a handful of occasions towards the end of the season.

As for Blackpool, they went on to earn promotion from League One. They put in a tremendous 2021 period to finish in the top-six, eventually beating Lincoln City in the League One play-off final to secure their return to the second-tier.

Neil Critchley’s side haven’t hinted at bringing Woodburn back to Bloomfield Road since he returned to Liverpool but with the Reds looking to loan him out again this summer, he could end up in the Championship.

With the Tangerines, Woodburn seemed to be lacking a bit of match fitness.

It was his third loan spell in as many seasons and a third one that didn’t really work out – he made seven league appearances on loan at Sheffield United in the 2018/19 season and 14 with Oxford United during the 2019/20 campaign.

Thoughts?

After stepping into the Championship, Blackpool will likely be looking elsewhere for some midfield talent – Woodburn remains exactly that but he really needs to have a solid loan season to get himself back into contention at Liverpool.

Interesting that Liverpool haven't given up on him. Would Championship football suit him more than League One? It's make or break time for him now. That one touch goal he was involved in versus Hull was a sign he could have something about him.

He was hardly awful. Decent enough but not as good as Embleton was. Doesn't look like he's in the Wales squad either anymore. Probably league one level at the moment.

If we're not looking better than this for our loans, we'll be in trouble. He's been considered a L1 loanee for 2-3 years now and hardly set that division alight...

As I said back in May, he’s got talent and certainly the season before he looked quality for club and country.
It might have all been different in the team post January with K and K behind him and a number 10 role available to him? Several of our players looked much better in 2021 with a decent midfield and defence behind them.
I’d rate him as good as Embo so maybe too early to discount this

I think if Madine and Simms sign (and that's the sort of player we need) then am fairly confident in what we've got.
Defence has to be the next priority because we weren't high scorers last season and so the defence was the key to our success.

I'll be amazed if we go back for him. And he wasn't as good as Embo in my opinion. Nowhere near. Embo has only played about 20 senior games in his life, and was getting better every game. Woodburn eems to be going backwards and offered us virtually nothing.
