Ben Woodburn

A welcome addition but as with other signings hope we don’t big him up too much and expect too much too soon. Apart from hitting the post, thought he was anonymous at Bloomfield last year (Brannigan ran the show for them) but don’t think he was playing in his favoured position.

It speaks volumes that Liverpool have sent none of their youngsters our way. I think we all hoped that one or two of their best under 21's would end up being improved whilst playing for us under Critchley's coaching at Blackpool. Perhaps Liverpool are not unhappy that Critchley moved on.
Or perhaps not . Yet another post without any substance whatsoever

So now we have Sarkic, Kaikai, Yates, Anderson, Ward, Lubala, CJ, Keshi and now Woodburn

All attacking winger/number 10 floaters

He could play the "Ward" role but actually have an impact, allowing Anderson to push forward and support the front 3.
He isn't a holding midfielder

Seen a bit of him with living in Wales with a couple of Wales fans and i can tell you he isn't the answer to our centre midfield problems

Best played behind a front man or cutting in from wide

Robson Virtue
Woodburn

Anderson
Hamilton Yates

Looks ok to me.

(Won't let me space them apart, so not as central as that appears above)

Has he signed? If so will be interesting to see the team selection tomorrow. I would question the reasoning behind him going straight into the team if neither of the two new centre halves weren't selected.

Ward isn't playing the holding midfield role, he isn't doing anything except running around and being anonymous.
We need someone (Virtue when finally available) to play alongside Robson to allow Anderson (or Woodburn now) to be able to get forward and link with the front 3.

Not sure we should get too excited about the tackle ability til we see him play. I watched a lot of his progress at LFC when he broke through and I never saw that part of his game personally. Oxford fans say they saw a bit of it develop before he got injured. Can't imagine he will be more effective in that regard than Robson, and can't see him being much better at tackling than Ward who remember has a decent amount of experience at a higher level.

Let's also not forget, that one of our most successful players in modern times, David Vaughan, was signed and initially played as a left midfielder before moving in to the middle.

I have no issue with players moving position if their abilities allow it, but we are currently seeing players played out of position with little if any benefit to themselves or the team.

Two Liverpool reporters claiming it’s done. One saying it’s till January the other saying end of the season, nothing’s been confirmed by the club yet though

Anyone saying Woodburn is the answer to our midfield problems is just wishful thinking... good signing and talented lad but not the physical, engine room type midfielder we desperately need. Hope the club is still looking

January would make sense as they were hoping to get him playing at a higher level this season

I'm a bit concerned about this injury he suffered twice from last season, apparently he has an unusual gait which makes him prone to hurting the outside of his foot. Apparently was in the process of getting insoles to take the pressure off when the second injury occured.

So by my reckoning we have 9 of this sort of inside forward type along with 6 fullbacks

It's the centre of the pitch that needs addressing
Come on Phil, 9? I think you're spreading the net wide there.

We do have a few holding midfield players - Robson, Williams, Virtue and Antwi. Could be better, could be worse.

I doubt the Viking will play and Virtue is still injured and if Woodburn does sign

Bang on this 👏

Sorry but he's nothing like David Vaughan

I do agree with your last paragraph though for me Grant Ward and Keshi Anderson aren't centre mids

Ward
CJ
Kemp

I wasn't comparing him to David Vaughan. I didnt even mention any specific player.
I was saying players are capable of moving to play in different roles if their abilities allow.

The ones we currently have (Anderson & Ward as you say) seemingly can't.
