Birmingham v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 27.11.21

I'd prefer to score more goals than we do and, if your honest, so do you. We've struggled to score enough goals all season whichever forward combination we've put out. Critchley, of course, is a safety first coach.
We struggled to score goals last season too, but in L1, that still resulted in wins, unlike the Championship.
As another poster rightly points out, our strikers are living off scraps.

What has happened today. Utterly frustrating. We were the better team but utterly ineffective going forward.

Anderson is such a good player but he's not a creative midfielder.

And Bowler really has lost the plot. Not worthy of a shirt at the moment.
That is spot on, and Dale doesn't add anything to what we already have.

I thought Sterling and Mitchell were excellent today, I still prefer Hubby as left back with Keogh slotting back into the middle, Then it has to be Dougall and Wintle, I'm sorry, but Connolly was a waste of a signing, he may be a utility player but he's bang average wherever he plays. Out wide we have lots of choice Mitchell, CJ, Dale, Bowler, Anderson even Gabriel as I think he is better going forward than defending personally. Out of those I think Bowler is a luxury and Dale has yet to convince me.

In the middle of the park in a creative role we only have Carey, that's it!! Priority for January is a decent creative midfielder. Up top we have Madine, Lavery and Yates and we could still do with another, such as Simms. Anderson isn't a number 10 in my opinion.

Still things to tweak and add to. We certainly didn't deserve to lose that but we never looked liked we would score so 0-0 would have been right.

We are doing okay, better than okay but we are coming up to the dreaded Christmas period where we are lucky to get a point from 4 games!! Lets hope we can kill that curse off forever this year.

MOM? Probably Mitchell or Sterling (He looks a real player)

Fact is virtually every team’s fans would say we just need this or we just need that …..of course if every team had that extra player or tow they “need” they would be better……that’s football

also the lino missed an offside at high speed …..in simple terms he made a mistake……how many mistakes did the players make? How many mistakes did you make last week at work or at home? We expect perfection from the officials…..how could that ever be the case? We won’t get anymore bad decisions than any other team. We will get decisions in our favour and not mention them ..blatant penalty for Swansea when 1-0 down last week not given for instance….so we got a point there and lost a point here…just accept officials are human and will make mistakes (I thought the ref made several today btw but there We go…….we had one attempt on target in the whole 90 minutes and I think one corner……..that’s why we didn’t even pick up a point, not some conspiracy theory about officials being against us which is bollocks

Dale will be another waste of a signing, he has nothing to offer.

As frustrating as the game was, we certainly didn’t get battered today, did we. Wintle in the middle with Dougall instead of Connolly and I think we would have been a lot more balanced.

Birmingham were not exciting in the least and have you seen who their two strikers were? Proven quality that costs a lot.

Remember the Cardiff game - so ugly and physical...a lot people I know were saying that was our ‘wake up call to the championship’ and we certainly responded after that.

I think Critch, the players and us fans know that we made too many mistakes today and we will learn and respond to it.

Firstly, I'm not your mate nor was I anything more than aggressive in response to his personal attack.
“Firstly I’m not your mate” 😂…….what a baby thing to say… your wording then also willingly conveys your aggression 😁

I was just trying to counsel you in friendly fashion with regards to your unhealthy anger and threat of violence to a fellow fan but you now appear also narked with me……what’s the common denominator??

you have a nice evening Darling and just have a wee think about the way you talk to nice people eh?

“it’s nice to be a wanker but it’s less Wankerish to be nice“ is I think the old saying

Unfortunately, you don't fall into the nice category. Enjoy your evening Darling, wanking or otherwise.

62, thanks for your prompt response to my DM. Bright shines a good deed in a wicked World 👍

I know you won’t like the comparison, but for mr Connolly is another Turton. He can play in most positions but isn’t very good in any.

I cannot understand why we have to have a scapegoat. Connolly not a, world beater but useful to have at the very least on the bench. Wintle made a few errors in his last match that could easily have proved costly and appeared to be running on empty, and I think that is why he was, rested and the only player we could use without changing the system was Connolly.
Not sure he was the reason we lost the match, but some like to give our players a good kicking

I’m not giving Connolly a kicking, just saying it as I see it. Critchley obviously sees something in him and it’s his opinion that counts not mine, however a place on the bench is the most he deserves and certainly not a first pick. He was the main culprit for the Swansea goal, I know it was a terrific strike, but he didn’t close him down or make any kind of tackle. And that is supposedly his favoured position, so I’m not giving him a kicking, just in my opinion deserved criticism.

I don't understand the criticism of Dale. He's direct and his first thought is always to play it forward. It won't always come off but he at least tries to play killer balls as often as possible, he'd benefit from playing with a more dynamic striker. Plus, he's the only one of our wide men who regularly puts in decent crosses, I bet strikers love playing with him.

Yeah were a Championship club, we outplayed Birmingham for parts of it, they had almost nothing and got incredibly lucky with that blatant offside goal.

But we have to be far better in front of goal.
not that it matters one jot as we lost anyway, but he was not offside - a massive 6” onside when th ball was played

Is it just us then that the "shit" refs have it in for? Unless they bring VAR into the Championship all teams will have to live with bad / poor refereeing.
I can't speak for every single club that plays twice a week as I only watch one of those clubs and that is Blackpool, there is a consistent pattern here of refereeing decisions going against us that are actively impacting our games and how many points we're taking away from them. Some are blatantly obvious and some less so.

I don't get how you could see decisions such as the disallowed goal against QPR (the QPR game had another two questionable decisions on top of that), the bloke who went on to score the winner not being sent off for Stoke after he booted Gabriel in the back of the legs, offside goals and penalty shouts and just settle for it on a basis of "well everyone must be having shit refereeing decisions".

Either we're suffering particularly bad or the standard of refereeing is awful across the board, one should piss you off the most but both should still annoy you. I can't see it being across the board as that would even out to some degree and we'd have seen games where refereeing decisions go for us, only one I can think of is Swansea where they should have had a penalty but didn't - that is one game where we've come off the better and we're halfway through the season almost.

Presume he is injured, otherwise I can't understand why he's not in the team every week, with his vision and creativity
Yes indeed where is Sonny? If he was playing yesterday in a 5 man midfield we would strolled that game against the worst team we’ve played this season.

Why oh why does Neil Critchley persist in playing one striker instead of a 4-4-2 system when we always look a lot more dangerous and likely to score when we go forward. You only have to think the number of points gained per match with twin strikers compared to when we only have one up front. His overall win-ratio is very good, but I feel it should be a much higher percentage than it is now. One thing about yesterday was that when we went 1-0 down, Jerry Yates came on for Madine and the match petered out to a defeat. A manager like Stan Mortensen would have had Ekpiteta as sweeper and put every possible forward type player on to try and get a result. Had Birmingham then won 2-0, at least it meant we tried for the equaliser. We've only had 3 points from the last 5 matches after 3 successive wins put us into the top six. I half expected us to start hunting the top two down for an automatic promotion spot, but it's as if we somehow don't want to go up this season. Come on Neil, please don't chop and change the team every match and always put the best eleven available out, barring injuries and suspensions.
WE CAN STILL GO UP.

Dunno - think we all see it thru tangering specs. We could just be a bit unlucky - I doubt there's a genuine conspiracy, but then I remain unconvinced they put a man on the moon 50+ years ago.
