Blackpool caretaker boss David Dunn hopes a new manager is appointed quickly

The 40-year-old oversaw his first game at the weekend as the Seasiders slumped to a 2-1 defeat at Bristol Rovers in what was their first fixture since the sacking of Simon Grayson.

With Pool now enjoying a free week before heading to the capital for next Saturday’s game against AFC Wimbledon, Dunn couldn’t provide any guarantees about who will be in the dugout.

When asked how long he expects to remain in caretaker charge, Dunn replied: “I’ve no idea.

“I’ve just been told to take the reins and see how we go. Hopefully they will appoint somebody relatively soon.

“I just want to be back on the grass because I enjoy coaching, so I will just keep doing that until told otherwise.”

Despite an improved display, the Seasiders’ alarming run of form continued on Saturday as they lost for an eighth time in their last 10 outings.

Pool squandered an early lead, Gary Madine netting his second goal since returning to the club after just two minutes.

Dunn’s players looked in charge of proceedings up until defender Ben Heneghan was shown a straight red card on the stroke of half-time.

Pool still had their chances to make life more comfortable for themselves even with 10 men, Matty Virtue in particular missing two big chances.

However the home side, who were without a win in 14 prior to kick-off, got themselves back on level terms courtesy of Alife Kilgour’s wonder strike.

The Gas then won the match with a slice of fortune six minutes from time when Preston North End loanee Josh Ginnelly inadvertently diverted a shot into the back of the net.

A disappointed Dunn felt his side were unfortunate to lose, accepting the red card was the pivotal moment of the game.

He added: “Does he need to make the challenge? I’m not sure, but he slipped.

“But if he slips he’s obviously going to ground and he’s got to try and win the ball.

“He’s disappointed in the dressing room because he’s a cracking pro and he does it right every day.”

The Seasiders still had the chance to snatch a point at the death when Nathan Delfouneso was sent clear through on goal.

However, the substitute somehow managed to curl wide, condemning Blackpool to yet another costly defeat – leaving them in 16th and 16 points off the play-offs.

“We had some great chances, even with 10 men and we should be scoring them,” Dunn accepts.

“Players miss chances and that’s fine, so there are no complaints from me as long as we are getting in those areas and creating chances.”

Having just heard his interview on radio wave this morning he sounds like he doesn’t even want to be in charge “I just want to get back on to the park coaching”
Talk about sounding dull. 😴

Are we thinking a new manager will be in today or tomorrow?
If so I guess whoever that is will have been 1st or 2nd choice.

I get it that some prefer not to be in the front line with all the media responsibilities etc but I dont see why being in charge on a temporary basis would prevent him from carrying out day to day coaching .

I'm wondering why he agreed to do the caretaker job, apparently against his own will. And now he feels trapped in a role he feels totally unequipped for, praying for an appointment to be made. Poor Dunny!

I wonder if an appointment is imminent, based on what he said.
Seems a very downbeat "I don't want to be doing this" kind of message to send out to the fans and even more importantly the players if he's potentially gonna be in charge for the foreseeable future.

So say all of us! Come on Simon - give the new man a full week with the players - 3 important games in 8 days on the way!
No we don't!!

Some of us say...1 Week is totally irrelevant when you are hopefully appointing someone who will be in the position for a few years...Take your time and make sure we get the right man.... Fuck rushing around like idiots!

If he doesn't want it get someone like John Murphy or GTF as caretaker until a decision is made. If we have to wait until the end of the season to get our man then so be it.

He probably has to do it as he’s employed by the club regardless. I sort of understand why he doesn’t want to do it as he’s a good mate of Simon Grayson and he doesn’t want to step into his shoes

True, but he could go the same way as Grayson & Miller. I would have thought it would be better for his CV to just do it and get the most out of the experience. He can still take training and coach. Personally I am just happy that they aren't making any rash decisions, but then you wouldn't expect a businessman of Sadler's capacity to be bitten twice, he's learning new skills re running a football club all the time.

It looks like the "information" about Jones being offered the job and having the weekend to think about it was a load of bollocks like a lot of supposed in the know stuff that isn't in the know.

After all , he has said he only agreed to take the job temporarily and having been at the match on Saturday, I still cant believe we didn't get anything from the game.Having been the best team till Heneghan got sent off and having had 3 fabulous chances to score in the second half [ Virtue, Virtue and the Fonz], then being done by a Worldy and a deflection . Vey unlucky we were and looked more committed than we have looked for 3 months under Grayson.Dunn and his assistants were animated on the side line.

New manager comes in, Dunn is collecting his P45 and rightly so.

First team coach? You're having a laugh mate.

Two things about that comment. 1. He clearly doesn't want to have egg left on his face by not being offered/getting the job 2. It means he's not a threat to anyone coming in and might potentially keep his job?
