Hi everyone
Many of you may already know John and Gordon White? the sons of Tom White who played for Blackpool and used to own the Boston Hotel.
They have opened a new eBike shop on Talbot Road where you can buy Electric Bikes such as this pair of Synch SuperMonkeys which we hired. I think they are just really super cool looking, most definitely a head turner as we rode down the prom.

I have been thinking about buying an electric bike for a while now so, Seb and I went for a 3 hour ride on these on Thursday afternoon and I have to say it was fantastic certainly would make rife the lights a great deal of fun this year.

If you are thinking of getting an electric bike like I am and want to see if it is for you then you can hire them from John and Gordon and try them out before you buy one. We filmed our ride and took out the drone to get some cool shots so you can see exactly how much fun we had.🙂

You get to see parts of the prom that you may not have seen before and it is just a fun afternoon can’t recommend it enough and they give a discount for Blackpool fans and local residents too 🙂🧡 definitely give it a go if it is something you are thinking about👍🏻

Now I have a bit of spare time during the summer I can do some different stuff and have a bit of fun so here is the vlog I made of our afternoon hope you enjoy it and it tempts you to try them out if you are thinking like me😊

Had a go on a few e bikes on holiday in Austria and Jersey etc.
Just wondering during how heavy the synch is? Could you put it in the back of your car or is it too heavy?

Think i will try this out, looks fun

Went to school with Gordon but not seen him in many years since he ran pub on cedar Square

Really good video. I really like the way you are promoting different activities and local business.
Thanks Ska it helps me try out ideas that I have and let's me hone my video making skills especially having a fun time with the drone and just having a blast with the youngest. Hopefully what goes around will one day come around and I'll get plenty of interest from Blackpool businesses (especially seasiders) who are looking for a promotional video.🙂

I must admit I didn't try picking it up but they felt quite quite heavy. The little foldable one would be perfect to put in the car. I'm trying to talk Jane into riding one of those the synch would be too high for her

They felt quite heavy 1887. The little foldable one would be perfect for that. I'm trying to get Jane to try one of those as the Super Monkey would be too big for her

Nice day for it lee, they looked a bit like the old choppers from the 70’s ( watchout for the gear stick) and no backies allowed
Yes definite likeness there is an American brand called super 73 which a lot of big youtubers like Casey Niestat sometimes ride on videos and I've wanted to try one of those out for ages. When I passed the shop a few weeks ago I had to call in because I thought they were Super 73's.
I just had to find out what it was like to ride these and they didn't disappoint just so much fun and you could see people staring as you were cruising along just so cool and I know it's only 15mph but it is quite quick and they accelerate plenty quick enough too! 🙂🙂

Honestly it's one of the most fun things I've done in a while and the part of the prom where we filmed the drone shots is a part of the promenade I have never seen before. We didn't have time to go all the way to Fleetwood but I would definitely like to try that next time. Yes definitely try it but I warn you you may want one if you do!

Wife and I both have E bikes. Had them about 4 yrs now, they are heavy at around 25kilo each and cost just under £3k each but are brilliant to ride. Can get about 35-40 miles out of a battery round Trough of Bowland and 70-80 miles on a flatter run. Still great excersize for us retired old gits

One whizzed passed me last week on the front near the tower must have been doing 30-40mph..
How come they don’t need road tax, mot, insurance and a full helmet? Not much difference between them and a moped really? 😎

They are ebikes, not moped or motorbikes that use petrol. You will be advised to wear a helmet, whether the shop insures you I dont know but I would get some.

Nice one John. You come over really well on the vid. Should have gone into some sort of media presenting.
Ill get down there a some point.
Good luck buddy 👍

I don't think they are legal. I've seen a few bikes modified with petrol engines but they are most definitely illegal. 15mph electric are just bikes and they don't need road tax or an m.o.t. or insurance just like a normal bike

Any ebike going faster than 15.5 mph unless under the riders own physical energy is illegall. And yes all cycle riders should have to wear a helmet
I ride my normal bike and don't always wear my helmet I know I should it can save your life but sometimes I prefer not to. There are so many laws and rules and regulations about every bloody thing that you do that sometimes (even if it might be dangerous and I could regret it ) I like to be a rebel 🙂

Yes John was a natural hardly had to edit anything (and ahem sometimes maybe it could be the interviewer that has a great way of relaxing people 😉🙂)

Bearing in mind the weight of electric bike is maybe three times heavier than an average bike, could cause some serious damage. Maybe some sort of insurance is needed for the safety of the general public.

3 times heavier? not even close. They don't have engines they just have a small battery pack. The rest of it is just a bike

You said - they felt heavy
Loftyboy - they are heavy around 25 kilo
Looked up average weight of road bike 13 kilo
You are right, nowhere near. The rest of it does not look like a bike, more like a motor bike with bigger frame and wheels, are you going blind.

Have you anymore vids lined up for other business's.

I'm playing around with an electric bike business at the moment, been something ive been looking at for about 5 years, electric bikes might be the future of personal transport particularly when big cities are banning cars left right and centre. Got our first prototype arriving in about three weeks.

Where I live there is a cycling club who regularly meet at my local beach bar many of the older members (55 plus) are on really serious electric machines for off roading. Chatting to one guy in his late fifties early sixties who was riding a fat wheeled fully suspended carbon fibre framed monster with a 1000w motor, said it would do 75kmh at a push. I checked on the price after he went - 17,000 euros. but saying that my brother in law has a normal road bike that cost nearly 10k.

good video. ive tried one of those monkey bikes just too small for me.

As others have said anything that propels you independently of pedalling ( ie throttle ) or assists beyond 15.5mph is illegal

6 points if caught - 3 each for riding an untaxed and uninsured vehicle

The subtle ones will allow you to keep it legal on the road but give an extra burst of power off-road via an app or equivalent

Personally I think the assistance should be in line with the US at 20mph as many unassisted bikes can go 25mph or more but it's not bad where it is and maybe safer

Currently on a Carrera from Halfords which I am upgrading as I find the range ( 20-23m ) too low around the Fylde where 40-50m rides are easily achievable - though in hilly areas I have been to such as the Dales I find the range is ok as you freewheel more

I think e-bikes are great for getting out and about in windy conditions or hilly territory when otherwise you might not bother Personally though I would want a bike to look like a bike but that's just preference

Hi Lee, nice to meet and have a chat on Friday night at the 92 promotion do. Me and Tony have got e-bikes and there fantastic.
I got mine because I started having health issues and Tony used to borrow one from his son who works at a bike shop,
He then took the plunge and bought one. For us they are great as we have a lot of hills in West and south Yorkshire and find we can now manage a 45/50 mile ride instead of 25/30
At my age and condition owning a e-bike is a no brainer
I still take one of my other bikes on holiday with me in the motorhome, can't bear to part with them!

My ex next door neighbour was ward sister on intensive care at St Thomas’s hospital.. she said if cyclists could only see the head injuries they had to regularly deal with as a result of cyclists not wearing a helmet…. 🙄
