Blackpool improvements - Tons happening

This could be good.

I dont get the shipping containers chic?

Whats that all about?
It's like a modern thing. Hatch in Manchester or this one in Bristol... or others elsewhere

Spent two days in February in my beloved Blackpool. Got to say the place has got itself into a real mess. I walked several times Revoe, South Shore and the town centre. I applaud the Council for having ambition but ‘too little too late’ comes to mind.

Hatch was shit
Never been, noticed it shut down. But was one I knew of, others too, so they are seems as quite trendy places.

The one proposed sounds good and is certainly in a good location for footfall.

If they make it as it sounds it'll be harder for it to fail.

Been impressed with Abingdon Market food and beverage

What went wrong with the 5* hotel (with no car park...lol) on central promenade?
That big, black steel framed monstrosity, in a prime location, very near the tower.

This was going to be the jewel in the promenades crown.
What an eyesore.
Not sure. But there's a few hotel were meant to be started that I don't think have been.

The fragrance group one.

Also apartments near the solaris centre, not been past in ages but don't think anything has happened. Haven't seen any news.

Agreed. Hatch had too many retail concessions and the layout was confusing. The new scheme, Stack, will just be food and beverage. You are right about footfall but not been there when the students are not there.

I'm on about the Blackpool one, looks like it'll be good and given its next to the pleasure beach, south pier and velvet coaster, it'll have huge footfall.

If they can't make it work there there's something wrong.

People will flock to a trendy looking place like that, serving different international cuisine. IMO.

Cant say I know how to regenerate but certainly KNOW THE SOLUTION and its PRIVATE investment not Govt grants and handouts and all the stipulations and bureaucracy that goes with it. Blackpool is never gonna be what it was BUT what it was, in its heyday was a lot of private individuals and businesses that supported the town and what it stood for. Of course we have lost a lot of industry and employment that goes with it but all these fancy drawings and pictures are not the way forwards. I would suggest an amnesty for any developers, for say 5 years, and lets see what it throws up. Tired of the council bleating how they have secured some govt handout/grant. We deserve better,

Can do both.

It's all about making that central area better, which is why the hosuing regeneration is needed.

Walk past the need bit of foxhall village as I did the other week, even though the houses aren't built like they used to, it looks nice.

You attract better people, families into them.

The less falling down guesthouse the less HMO's and the less scallywags can come, be delivered from elsewhere, be deposited by serco or whoever.

Knock more of those old guesthouse down and make the good ones move onto empty spaces on the better streets, have them full, turn the old streets into more houses for families. You then start to turn an area around.

Also they are making the existing housing stock better in places with the 90 million initial funding, starting around central drive.

If they do as I've posted on here with some artist impressions it'll look good and help regenerate that area.

The single most important step that needs to be taken is the demolition of the dreadful housing in Central Blackpool. People do not deserve to live like that, and the result is the only people who do live there bring more problems and continue the downward spiral.

That cannot be done by attracting individual entrepreneurial schemes, because there is no return on investing in a community of abject poverty.

The demolition of near derelict housing stock at Talbot gateway and the £90m secured for Revoe/Central housing demolition is a great chance that mustn't be fumbled, and it can't be the end. There is a lot more of Central Blackpool to rebuild after that.

Quite the transformation...

Some good places to eat there.

New one.

Was having a conversation with a friend of mine who isn’t from here. He was saying how bad Blackpool looks in certain areas, the usual stuff. You can’t disagree, it looks horrendous in places but I do have more faith in this council than any previous ones with the work they’ve done at Talbot so far, the plans for Revoe and Central Drive etc. I showed him some pictures of places around Stanley Park, Bispham, Anchorsholme, Squires Gate etc, and he was astonished at how nice some of those areas are. It got me thinking, I can’t think of many residential areas in our town that lie away from the town centre that are really undesirable, run down places, like you’d see in some neighbourhoods in Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham etc. Think about it - Layton isn’t bad, Squires Gate is nice, Bispham/Anchorsholme nice, even Grange Park and Mereside are looking better these days. The issues with this town tends to be that the local places are actually quite nice, while some of the tourist places are a bit of a mess. I can’t think of another place where that’s the case, usually it’s the city centres are nice and the local areas are rough.

I would like to see the council prioritise Lytham Road, Waterloo Road, Bond Street etc, that entire section. It is rather embarrassing that those areas just happen to be at one of the main tourist points in South Pier, not to mention footy fans coming to Bloomers. And on a side note, I’d like to see them tell whoever owns that monstrosity of a pink building outside Central Pier to change the colouring to something a bit more subtle 😂

All good news but a lot of those jobs are already here on other sites.
It gets the footfall to the business in town though, which is a good thing.
I know the new Fylde View building has led to a fair bit of retail spending in town.
When the Uni is built and running it will be thriving. The town needs that, especially in the Winter months.

Absolutely. Peel Park isnt bringing any footfall apart from Tesco

The advantage this will bring to the town centre is often overlooked. The extra footfall will help shops, cafes, bars and restaurants and the town centre becoming more vibrant will then improve the visitor experience too.

Still lots needing done but so much of the town centre is looking way better than it did twenty years ago.

Agree 👌

Yeah, some people see the tourist areas, old guesthouse etc and some streets in a poor state and think the whole town is like that but it's s not, nothing like it.

The town centre is pretty good, just need a few streets off the prom regenerating which are the most visible and the Central Drive regeneration. Visually the areas where tourists might see would look far better, theres more areas to do but less tourists go there so wouldn't be as visible.

Need the regeneration to hurry up though, always seems long winded.

A lot of things seem to have dried up too recently. The new hotels and new apartments on the front etc.

Peel Park and the retail park at Mereside would probably do much better if the council would actually be a bit forward thinking and build a footbridge from one side of the motorway to the other. Other places across the country embrace this kind of thing but Blackpool would rather just shut these places down than accommodate the workforce.
