Blackpool in 1904 - Victoria pier colourised

That's fantastic.

Do the top hat, bowler hat, flat cap signify status or is it just a fashion choice?

120 years later and people's reaction to a camera haven't changed all that much.

The coy, the simple smiles, the playing up (see @LeeCharlesTV for modern examples).

It would be wonderful to hear the hub hub of the crowds. How different did we speak back then and so on.

Even though it might not have been the actual colour in real life, the pink dress looked stunning.

There's more to say, but that'll do.

What a cracking find @JJpool, what a cracking find 👍

It's actually really thought provoking, set to a beautiful melody too, from romeo and juliet.

Before the titanic sunk, before the world wars that changed the world dramatically.

Its literally looking back in time, a different world, different values, hardworking honest people.

It could even be looking back at ancestors, great grand parents etc who may have come to Blackpool and enjoyed it and moved there settling later on. All people in this video are no longer here, even the youngest.

If only a time machine was real so you could go back and visit times like this.

A bit of some commentary on this one....

Plus this with some great footage...

Looks like Lytham Road when they get to Blackpool, which makes sense given that's the journey....

Love them too.

Population of the UK in 1901 38 million; visitors to Blackpool 4-6 million.

I see it was always sunny too!!

These old films are the nearest thing to a time machine, plus next time you drive from Lytham to Blackpool along Clifton Drive just look for things still there from that old tram journey, there's some you'll find, although it's probably better if walking. I love history as you are aware👍
